Taking charge of my well being!

Taking charge of my well being!

Hello All,

I decided today not to go to hospital. I have a new psychiatrist, meeting a new social worker next week and I have another lovely social worker who meets with me, as well as a great GP who is always there for me.

I decided today that it is time to take charge of my well being myself. So as I am exploring new ideas I will keep a little diary here and perhaps it is useful for some other people that are struggling along the way.

I really want to look at the good sides of my life history. I have a lot of trauma to go through, but I don't want to forget the good times. So I made a random selection of photos of my husband. I want to make a scrap book and capture the love and the memories. In the book 8 Steps to Trauma Recovery there is a section about start with the end, or something like that. I made it through the trauma and I want to celebrate that I made it and capture the good times while I am feeling better. Over time I want to add my kids, my friends, my family, my uni years, my school years... whatever, one at a time, savouring the good times...

I know that just because I feel well today, tomorrow is another day. But it is ok, I will work on my ideas when I can. When I feel I can.

Big hugs to all x

Perhaps @Former-Member it might have been OK to go to work in your PJs because surely no one would hassle or give a hard time to someone in their pjs😝 Glad you are ok but I know things are still rough. Sending hugs and hoping for a kinder day for you😊💜

Good morning @Former-Member @Decadian @BlueBay @Appleblossom @Kurra

Today is the 1st day of the second half of the year.

I wanted to take responsibility for my well being and have been pretty slack. I put it down to the meds side effects, but it is probably just me. I will have to get some routine & discipline back in my life to make this work. Every other week I have ideas on what to change or how to create my day, and I fail miserably. But I think I have just not found what is working for me right now. So I will keep looking. Things will work out eventually. I hope.

Wishing you all a good day xoxo

@Former-Member

I've found routine to be critical in allowing me to move forward. It has allowed me to continue functioning during quite profound depression.
Discipline has also been fundamental in my recovery. Sleep for instance. I have to guard my sleep because less than an hour of sleep indicates a serious problem either up or down.
I get dressed in the same order every day. I try to leave the house at the same time every day, eat at the same. ...... you get the drift.

If you can try to work out the things that will help you you can over time start to beat this beast. It's not an easy road to recovery but I've found grim determination plus a strong dose of pig headed stubbornness goes a long long way.
Stick with your decision no matter how hard it is and you may well find a modicum of control entering your life.

Have a great day 💕

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

Hello my friends,

I hope you are all doing okay and had a relaxing Saturday.

I am feeling much better today. I've got a cold but my head is clear. I wrote a lot of notes for the psychiatrist appointment next week. It feels good to have everything written down more structured. I will also show him some distressed notes I took, but all in all I feel confident that I will be able to have a grown up conversation with him. I also have got a more relaxed view about medication again.

I really want to discuss with my psychiatrist what could have triggered the last drop.

@Kurra I had no routine last week at all, so that could probably have contributed and there were some upsetting events and flashbacks. Also my diet was pretty ordinary. I would really like to see if a stable routine can make a difference and I want to discuss with the psychiatrist what is helpful and what is not, so he can have an input too.

Keeping my head up. Hope you're all having a good day. I want to enjoy the good days as they come.

Hi @Former-Member

Good to see you are in a better head space today. Happy for you. And great idea that you wrote some notes for your psych. I do that a bit especially when am really bad, I find it hard to talk to him so I write it all down.

Sounds like that routine is a big part of your wellbeing. I find too that I need routine, a to do list at work and I stick to it.

I hope you have a nice day tomorrow and a really good week. xxxooo

Hi @Former-Member, so great to hear you sounding more on top of things. I took a list of issues to discuss with psychiatrist today too. Just the act of writing things out helps get them clear in my mind. Don't need to do it every time but definitely helpful when things have been feeling especially messy, as they have for the past week for me too. I too love the idea of you having a 'grown up discussion' with your psychiatrist. That's the best way to move forward with our doctors for sure. Best wishes for your appointment now going really well.

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

Good morning @Former-Member @Decadian @BlueBay @Appleblossom @Kurra @utopia @Mazarita and everybody I missed 🙂

It's really early in the morning. I have a big day ahead with 2 work appointments & psych & social worker. I think I have it all organised and under control - because every appointment is at a different place and I have to combine car travel & train. Just not sure where I will fit eating in...

I've written everything down for the appointments and have also stocked up on meds - therefore committed myself to taking them. @Former-Member another very disappointing visit to the pharmacy yesterday.

Even if the psych would want to change my meds I would like to take them in the same constellation for another month, but at the same time implement more mindfulness and a little more activity and see how I settle with my new counsellor. I have also found one critical part in my treatment that is not being addressed. And that is how to learn & practice grounding. What do I do when my head spins out of control? The other thing I really want to discuss and finalise is what I am trying out for the month, I try a million things and never see the benefit, it's a bit like changing major at university every day, I think if I can agree with my care team what my focus is, then I can make some progress.

I can proudly say that I have not contacted a helpline in 2 days, something I wanted to work on - and it was easy, but only because it was the weekend 🙂 I burst out to someone the other day: "I don't have a mental illness" - so much for accepting myself. I think I just don't like the terminology.

What is it with dreaming? I dream so vivid, not only nightmares but in general. I dream about work, my fears of not working well enough at the moment, I talk in my sleep and sometimes I wake myself up because I'm walking (in my bed) or talking or grabbing something or moving my arms. It's really weird. When I was falling asleep yesterday afternoon I woke myself up blowing kisses - either at my husband or my parrot, so it's not all stressful, but it is weird. I know nightmares, but I don't think I have ever been so active in bed. Hence I don't feel really rested in the morning.

Anyway, got to get myself ready now - as I said, early morning, long day ahead!

Hi @Former-Member

Good luck with your appointments today, hope they go well.

Glad to see you are going to commit to taking your meds. And talking with your psych about it and addressing yoiur other issues is a good idea.

Well done for not contacting helpline for 2 days, that is really good.

Have a nice day, hugs to you 🙂
