Taking charge of my well being!

Taking charge of my well being!

Hello All,

I decided today not to go to hospital. I have a new psychiatrist, meeting a new social worker next week and I have another lovely social worker who meets with me, as well as a great GP who is always there for me.

I decided today that it is time to take charge of my well being myself. So as I am exploring new ideas I will keep a little diary here and perhaps it is useful for some other people that are struggling along the way.

I really want to look at the good sides of my life history. I have a lot of trauma to go through, but I don't want to forget the good times. So I made a random selection of photos of my husband. I want to make a scrap book and capture the love and the memories. In the book 8 Steps to Trauma Recovery there is a section about start with the end, or something like that. I made it through the trauma and I want to celebrate that I made it and capture the good times while I am feeling better. Over time I want to add my kids, my friends, my family, my uni years, my school years... whatever, one at a time, savouring the good times...

I know that just because I feel well today, tomorrow is another day. But it is ok, I will work on my ideas when I can. When I feel I can.

Big hugs to all x

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

Hi @Former-Member

This has to be the last post I answer and go back to bed - sleeping late might have a comfort value but a lot of the day can pass before I decide to motivate myself

You are right about War - there is a terrible sense of useless crime involved - and for my mother losing her father when she was just a child must have been terrible - the thread of all of that seems to run like a tune I can never get out of my head

But I am looking forward to going to Canberra to find out what I can about him

So both my grandfathers were in France when the Armistace of Versailles was signed too - and I will never know but I often wonder if my grandfather's knew each other - what a great story - neither of my parents were born then -

And thanks so much for your kind thoughts about my son - it is a lot easier this year -

Hi @CherryBomb@Former-Member@Decadian

sorry, not much up to writing this morning. I think I'm still recovering from the session on Tuesday.

My other post it on the screen says: "You can never stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Perhaps I should stop trying to get up on that surfboard, try bodysurfing or just jump in the waves, I don't think I am ready to learn surfing.

Hope you all have a good day.

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

Why can I not just snap out of this and go back to who I was? In moments like this I feel so much self pity for myself that I am disgusted with myself.
Just running the numbers through my head for how much money I will have to fork out every single month now to continue treatment and it is shocking. How am I supposed to keep this up?
Until this week I did not understand the word intrusive thoughts, now I've learnt that what I call memories popping up.
I'm just confused this morning and I have a big day ahead. I've just walked, I have work meetings, then see the psychiatrist, then head home and then there is one more day of work until the weekend. I am exhausted, yeah I should celebrate making it out of bed, looking half decent and waiting for the train, but I don't.
Perhaps I should just take a break from everything and see if I can get back into my old coping mechanisms? I hate so much what is happening to me.

Hi @Former-Member. I have no advice to give but am thinking of you. I don't know you well enough but it seems like you have pretty good intuition. I think you need to find the best way you can to deal with everything. Is dropping a day or two of work a possibility. You are currently experiencing really bad surfing conditions, no one can surf in them and you are trying to learn. Be kind to yourself, you are trying so hard.😊💜

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

Hi @Former-Member
I won't write much more today as I will just get myself further down 😞 I need to work. Not only because I need money but it keeps me sane. I know what I have to do when I'm at work, it makes me tired, yes, but it keeps me going. When I'm alone I get confused because I don't understand myself? Why can I not understand myself? I'm not stupid?
Hope you're ok xox

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

Hi Flower

Understanding ourselves is a live-long occupation - a lot of people don't even bother - and that surf can be so overwhelming - perhaps now is not the best time to start

How I hate winter!

I wish I could pull myself out of the SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder - it would be so great to just live and not be bothered by troublesome memories - the ones that sneak back in and make it hard

So I get what you are talking about -

What I do is give myself time - winter has to pass - I have memories of counting down the days to spring as long as I can remember - I think one of the problems most people have is winter - short days, cold weather, the blues

And you have yet to get over your session on Tuesday - thoses sessions can really wear us down - they are also the most useful sessions

Time will pass - and rather than worry about the time that seems to be wasted because things have been in a backwash for a while - wait until you feel the urge to start again - and rule a line across your memories and start again

But give yourself that time - don't be hard on yourself

Hello all,

thank you for your messages.

I feel better since seeing the psychiatrist today.

I am really sorry, but I will take a break from the forums for a while. I will miss you all, I wish we could just meet in person and have coffee together.

Take care and I'll be in touch again some time. xoxox
