Taking charge of my well being!

Taking charge of my well being!

Hello All,

I decided today not to go to hospital. I have a new psychiatrist, meeting a new social worker next week and I have another lovely social worker who meets with me, as well as a great GP who is always there for me.

I decided today that it is time to take charge of my well being myself. So as I am exploring new ideas I will keep a little diary here and perhaps it is useful for some other people that are struggling along the way.

I really want to look at the good sides of my life history. I have a lot of trauma to go through, but I don't want to forget the good times. So I made a random selection of photos of my husband. I want to make a scrap book and capture the love and the memories. In the book 8 Steps to Trauma Recovery there is a section about start with the end, or something like that. I made it through the trauma and I want to celebrate that I made it and capture the good times while I am feeling better. Over time I want to add my kids, my friends, my family, my uni years, my school years... whatever, one at a time, savouring the good times...

I know that just because I feel well today, tomorrow is another day. But it is ok, I will work on my ideas when I can. When I feel I can.

Big hugs to all x

Why on earth am I in hospital and not at home, I'm fuming at the moment!

Hi @Former-Member

I am reading your story - and wondering what comes next - it sounds really really hard

Really - I get it with the repressed memories - after my mother died I was free to remember what had happened when I was a small child - I don't remember how old I was but with the memories came emotions I had no control over and mostly I was really angry

Anger can be really good - we need to be angry to get over the depression that is anger turned inward

I can't imagine what your feelings are like and what you are remembering - but I do care about you and thinking about you

But all this time in hospital - must mean something positive - I think it was you - not sure - who didn't talk about the really deep problems on your last visit

Keep on keeping on - there has to be a way home - but I think that path is working through all the shit - not running from it

Hugs

Be strong. They have rules. Use them😀 Had a dear friend who was in similar situations.. You'll get through 😀

Scream & growel into your pillow flower. Tear up newspapers into tiny pieces

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

Very good ideas @Former-Member

Giving the pillow what for is harmless but a wonderful way of getting the anger out - how long ago was it - over 30 years - when I drew a face on a pillow and kicked it around the house yelling at it - the pillow was wrecked - but so way

And tearing a large sheet of new papers into tiny bits - that sounds boring but boy - a person has to be very angry to do that one - I think I have done it - and there is nothing as useless as yesterday's newpaper - if anyone asks - you are recycling in a big way - and when you have finished with one sheet - start on another

@Former-Member - they might sound like weird ideas - but they work - they must have worked - I have not felt angry enough to do anything like that for years and years

Still thinking of you - thinking of both of you

I've chosen the chemical hammer for the benefit of my husband visiting.

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

Trouble with pills is it just numbs you to it, its still there. We have to not turn it in on ourselves.
