Taking charge of my well being!

Taking charge of my well being!

Hello All,

I decided today not to go to hospital. I have a new psychiatrist, meeting a new social worker next week and I have another lovely social worker who meets with me, as well as a great GP who is always there for me.

I decided today that it is time to take charge of my well being myself. So as I am exploring new ideas I will keep a little diary here and perhaps it is useful for some other people that are struggling along the way.

I really want to look at the good sides of my life history. I have a lot of trauma to go through, but I don't want to forget the good times. So I made a random selection of photos of my husband. I want to make a scrap book and capture the love and the memories. In the book 8 Steps to Trauma Recovery there is a section about start with the end, or something like that. I made it through the trauma and I want to celebrate that I made it and capture the good times while I am feeling better. Over time I want to add my kids, my friends, my family, my uni years, my school years... whatever, one at a time, savouring the good times...

I know that just because I feel well today, tomorrow is another day. But it is ok, I will work on my ideas when I can. When I feel I can.

Big hugs to all x

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

Hi @utopia @Appleblossom and @BlueBay and everyone else,

I have got out of bed with a positive attitude and will focus today on my group sessions - as scary as they may seem, that's what I'm here for, right?

Thinking of all of you and big hugs x

@BlueBay@Former-Member

I think it's really great that you two girls can encourage each other through this really tough time

You are there for each other - what more can we be except the best friend we can for those going through the same challenges at the same time

Social media is indeed a wonderful thing

Hi @utopia @BlueBay @Decadian and all

How at you all? I know you're all on your own journeys and I hope you're doing ok.

I cried a lot yesterday and went to bed way ahead of time. I kept waking up, disoriented that I wasn't at home. I feel my mind focussing on events that I still need to process, but that don't go to the basis of the problem. Gentle, gentle, I feel like I want to solve ALL my problems in a quick hospital stay, I know that is not possible.

We replaced the word tough yesterday with brave. I like that. I am brave. Nothing to do with being tough. I like brave much more.

I am speaking more to other patients now and I think that helps. Everyone has their own journey, it's a bit like having this forum, but we can actually see each other.

I haven't used a helpline since I'm here and I find it good to have actual people knocking at my door, calling my name and sitting there patiently waiting and encouraging.

I can now understand how scary it will be to leave this place again one day. Funny how views change, not too long ago I was a firm believer that hospital would destroy me.

I don't know where in my journey I am and I don't know if I ever will know. I just feel like I have to lay bare, come back to nothing and rebuild my little Lego house.

Hello All,

Hope you're having a restful weekend and are feeling ok. I'm enjoying home comforts for a brief while. Returning to hospital in the afternoon. It still seems surreal. I understand that I require the rest and support in hospital, but it just seems worlds apart from my normal life. I am starting to look deeper into Pandora's box and it is at times very overwhelming. It scares me to delve in deeper.

I wonder what my life will look like after hospital? I know therapy will be for years and I know I shouldn't wonder about work right now, but I am.

I wish you all a little peace today and big hugs x

Hi @Former-Member and @BlueBay

Taking a deep look inside ourselves takes courage - it's exhausting - hard to imagine

What will your life look like when you have recovered from this bad patch? - much the same I guess but it is you who will have changed

We change inside - actually we do this every day fo our lives - but a hospital that helps us examine the things that were making that life hell means we are in fast-track and doing a much bigger course of life-work that we could manage away from the privacy and rest it gives us

And my weekend as been uneventful - until tomorrow I think - when I will be back out in the world an having the world intrude into my life - and the first is seeing my dd - because I have been away then she was away

All the best with next week in hospital @Former-Member - and @BlueBay

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

Brave and courageous is much better @Former-Member

How we use words influences our thoughts and feelings so much. I grew up with limited spoken English around me ... NESB mother and no father and very rough neighbourhood where the main words heard were angry swearing ... so got most of my English and love of words from books.

Glad you are getting some of the help you need.

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

We talked about core beliefs today.

My core beliefs are skewed by my childhood and I find it very upsetting to discuss them and I find it difficult because I don't think they can understand.

I am disappointed in myself. There is so much to learn here and I shut myself out. They are not mind readers here. How are they supposed to know how I feel and how they can help me when I turn into a 3 year old.

I think I will go back to my bedroom and draw a girl, a girl with eyes, with a heart, with a smile and hang it on my mirror. Me, open heart, asking for help.
