Taking charge of my well being!

Taking charge of my well being!

Hello All,

I decided today not to go to hospital. I have a new psychiatrist, meeting a new social worker next week and I have another lovely social worker who meets with me, as well as a great GP who is always there for me.

I decided today that it is time to take charge of my well being myself. So as I am exploring new ideas I will keep a little diary here and perhaps it is useful for some other people that are struggling along the way.

I really want to look at the good sides of my life history. I have a lot of trauma to go through, but I don't want to forget the good times. So I made a random selection of photos of my husband. I want to make a scrap book and capture the love and the memories. In the book 8 Steps to Trauma Recovery there is a section about start with the end, or something like that. I made it through the trauma and I want to celebrate that I made it and capture the good times while I am feeling better. Over time I want to add my kids, my friends, my family, my uni years, my school years... whatever, one at a time, savouring the good times...

I know that just because I feel well today, tomorrow is another day. But it is ok, I will work on my ideas when I can. When I feel I can.

Big hugs to all x

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

Thank you @utopia

I will be safe, my husband will be with me until I go in. I feel so upset that I have to do this and I look around and think I might not be home tomorrow. I'm just scared, this is my safe place, my home, I feel safe with my husband and it is all new coming up.

I understand @Former-Member. Feeling safe is so important - but essentially when we are sick and vulnerable. Im so glad you've got your husband by your side.

Hi @Former-Member

It's okay to be in a bad mood - I think it's a good idea and we all need to have a bad mood from time to time -

I wasn't in a bad mood yesterday - but I wasn't very happy either

Now - I know many people will only do things when it affects their back pocket - but I insist that I have done things in life that have had effect on many things - and not for my own good - although in the long run my concerns are that we do things because there can be a long term reality to consider and the health of the planet and the local environment concern me of course

Some people are decorated for their efforts - I have bearly been acknowledged - never paid for it - and therefore it has meant more for me

After all - when we do things for ourselves and our immediate family - well - everyone does that - it takes more effort and is worth more to us when we act for any and all people, even needing the strength of numbers to get results - and it is worth more to me that I have not been acknowledged

I hope your mood is better today - but it is okay if it is not - owning a bad mood is perfectly okay

Hi @Decadian

I will be thinking of your words in the next couple of weeks.

I feel so empty and sad this morning and scared.

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

I understand @Former-Member

I have been there - with fear, loneliness and pain - often lost and alone is a world that I don't always understand - that is often unkind

And not just to me - but to many people

For me I have the strong feeling I was born ahead of my time - I see the chances young people have now that did not exist when I was young - but then - I think in many ways life is harder for young people now

The world has changed so fast in my lifetime - maybe I lived on the cusp of two millenia - the C20th and the C21st - and this has been great - I have certainly seen things my grandparents never imagined - even hated

But those feeling of loss and fear and being alone - and finding your way - they are not at all easy feelings

I will be thinking of you

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

Thinking of you all just before I settle in for my second night here. Most of the day was overwhelming but I am peaceful now and looking forward to sleep. I got some new night meds so hopefully will have a breeze of a night!
