Taking charge of my well being!

Taking charge of my well being!

Hello All,

I decided today not to go to hospital. I have a new psychiatrist, meeting a new social worker next week and I have another lovely social worker who meets with me, as well as a great GP who is always there for me.

I decided today that it is time to take charge of my well being myself. So as I am exploring new ideas I will keep a little diary here and perhaps it is useful for some other people that are struggling along the way.

I really want to look at the good sides of my life history. I have a lot of trauma to go through, but I don't want to forget the good times. So I made a random selection of photos of my husband. I want to make a scrap book and capture the love and the memories. In the book 8 Steps to Trauma Recovery there is a section about start with the end, or something like that. I made it through the trauma and I want to celebrate that I made it and capture the good times while I am feeling better. Over time I want to add my kids, my friends, my family, my uni years, my school years... whatever, one at a time, savouring the good times...

I know that just because I feel well today, tomorrow is another day. But it is ok, I will work on my ideas when I can. When I feel I can.

Big hugs to all x

Hi @Former-Member, sorry to hear you have had a shit day. That voice in your head can get quite loud sometimes, but your right just try to ignore it, think positively and take small steps.

Glad to hear that you have some good things to look forward to over the weekend, especially seeing your son! I hope you get a good rest tonight and start tomorrow fresh

It's awful when we fall back into the vortex of black and white thinking. That negative self chatter that sometimes goes on in our heads. It's frustrating. But you know how to breath through it @Former-Member. You know that you only need to focus on the next minute & then the one after that.
I hope you manage to get a good sleep tonight. And it will be good to see your son this weekend.
Sending you lots of support & hugs.

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

Good morning @utopia and @Former-Member

I can't sleep anymore but it's still dark and cold in the house. My head is thumping. I took the max daily dose of my "as required" meds - and I'm grateful I have them, but I will feel "the hangover" today. I made it through the night, none of my catastrophising has happened. So far so good.
I have a very busy day ahead so I will need to take extra care to look after myself, meditate, have a lunch time sleep...

I fell back asleep writing this 🙂 now is a much better time to get out of bed for a big day.

Have a great weekend!

Hello @utopia and @Decadian

I'm relaxing with a cup of coffee before the storm 🙂

I think I have become a lot more compassionate to my limitations, made meditation and a nana nap a priority today and am feeling not too overwhelmed. Taking my meds, but forgot to eat until now. I guess I should have a sandwich or something.

How are you and what are you doing this weekend?

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

Hi @Former-Member. Struggling today with a teenaged who doesn't care about his report card. Original - I know. Off to soccer. Today I'm finding it hard to be smiley - so I'm not. But still had someone come and talk to be about nothing for half an hr. Very hard not to say "I don't give a (bleep). But just got back in the car instead. Gave me a bit of a silent giggle. See, I'm feeling a bit rude today. Oh well. The boy is having a shower & I'm about to go to sleep. Figure tomorrow will be in a better mood. Just hard when my mum tries to cheer me up. Makes me feel worse. And 4 hrs with her today & a teenaged was just too much.
Did your son visit? Or is that tomorrow. Yes, sometimes I forget to eat. It can be a shock when you see the time. Where did it go?
Hope you have a good night tonight. Just do what you can.

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

Exhausted.

Have to take extra care today to rest and relax. Going for a nana nap now. No time limit.

Exhausted = low energy = low mood = spiral down

Trying my best to break to circle!

But I had a good time and it's great to have my son back for a week - even though I will rarely see him, but at least I will see him!!

Re: Taking charge of my well being!

Take care of yourself today @Former-Member. Little treats. Sleeping, walking, knitting. Whatever helps chase the blues away.
