Re: Birthday Times
@Former-Member I was usually stuck for words in my first 25 years. Know that feeling well, I probably looked too intensely at people in those times.
Many more words now, but sadly I dont always have the right words for all situations.
I have often thought that my loved ones who passed too early were spared more pain on earth. The three of them had difficult lives.
Its hard trying to connect to old sick mothers. I had to be careful to look after me during my mothers last year as my mother had managed to be surrounded by hordes of people and went out very much on her own terms.
I usually had been solicitous for her and taught my kids to respect her as an elder.
There was an odd little situation at he last Matthaus Passion I did. My son and I were helping her to find a seat. She was slow with her walking stick. A man told me that she was fine and not to make a fuss. Neither my mother or my son or I were making a fuss, we were walking to a wooden log as people poured out of the church during the interval. I was polite. Now I realise he just was rude and probably misogynist.
We found out a week later that her lungs were full of fluid and she started her diagnosis towards lung cancer. So this Passion I relfect on the time 2 years ago when she was able to come. She was so serious about music and religion it was a big thing. I was more interested in finding things to cheer or sustain her, than worrying about what I did not get.
The funny thing is that I usuallly did do the right thing by my mother, and our family really did have many good qualities despite the scary MI labels. Its important to sift through the good and the bad.

What sort of words do you have to share .. just start to write things .. any old thoughts ... if it helps. I know some people are more visual .. post a photo or drawing that expresses something ... bounce off the visual to find the verbal.

Re: Birthday Times
Like you I'm struggling to find words right now. Taking me a long time to be able to collect my thoughts & write things. Maybe @Appleblossom is correct, just start writing anything or post a picture, quote or something and see if you can build from there.
Going to be around a lot this weekend, nothing planned so hopefully I can get the words going again.
Whatever happens, take care.

Re: Birthday Times
Some good news for me - went to the doctor today & he gave me a letter for housing recommending I be allowed to get a dog as a companion animal. Something to keep me company while sitting here alone, to make me get up each day to take out (I live in a small unit so no yard) and to get myself a little more exercise. So the search is on to find something suitable. My niece will disown me if I don't get a rescue dog. 🙂
Not going anywhere either.
Take care & stay safe!

Re: Birthday Times
My family have hirt me another year (by doing nothing), i checked the mailbox today (last business day before my b'day) and not one card or anything from family, they never visit (bar my son apx once a year) but birthdays mum & my sister use to make a special effort. My sister stopped acknowledging me at all this last 4yrs and mum didn't bother for my birthday last year(first time ever).. Its like I'm already dead to them & i miss them. Doesn't do much to fight off the suicide thoughts when ya family scream 'you don't mattet' Actually, my older brother told me after my breakdown in my 20's that hospitals should give suicidal people like me a gun & lock me in a room alone. After my last breakdown #2 brother tells me how to do it properly "walk into the sea & take a deep breath underwater" Of cause i don't know how to respond to them at the time, just shut down € ignore it - but i can't forget. When i need them to tell me they love me & like having me on the planet, the more or less saying "go do it" & today the same thing. It makes me sad.
Had to cancel a dr apt today as got up too late after restless night & woke in a panic & had to ring lifeline to calm myself. Im just struggling...

Re: Birthday Times
Sounds like your family is a real problem for you. Seriously you are probably better off without them in your life, always bringing you down. It can't change the memories of what they have done but can prevent them adding new ones. Sadly for loners like us it is so difficult to build healthy relationships to replace the toxic ones. To find those that care & accept us. Because of this we often cling to those that we shouldn't.
All this makes me look at my relationships with family members a bit differently. While I don't have a lot to do with them at least I can talk to them. At least they don't say crap about me, at least to my face. My mother cares & remembers me (bless her heart, she turned 80 today).
But when my birthday does come in a couple of weeks, mum is probably the only one I'll get a card & call from. It's the same every year, except for a couple of messages from Facebook friends (simply because FB tells them what the day is) no-one seems to care or remember, and I have a very large family. Gone on so long I'm used to it.
I can't do much to change things for you @Former-Member, but be here to talk if you need.
Take care, keep yourself safe.

Hello @Drac0 The dog sounds like a wonderful idea. My place is small and I have 2 cats who have been the best therapists. Good Luck with it all.
@Former-Member I just survived my birthday. I received one card from a govt sponsored organisation that looks after ex homies. It was a lovely card. My sole surviving sister has shocked me with her cruelty and rejection. It has taken a while and I finally have decided .. I am better off without her in my life.
I did, coincidentally get a wedding call out on my birthday from a niece. Nice timing, though she doesnt realise it was my birthday. I'll tell her eventually. I will see this sister at the wedding .. so I am already trying to toughen myself regarding seeing her again.. and all the games. Still young love is nice to contemplate and I will always keep little links alive..
My sister was horrible to me for 25 years. It took me that long to get that she hated me. I kept encouraging my daughter to look up to her as I was trying to validate our biological family and develop extended family. I was very slow to get the message and it was very painful. I think I have now.
Good Luck and Take care.
