Something’s not right

I know this post is going to be 'moderated', but I really don't care.

I know this post is going to be 'moderated', but I really don't care.

Does anyone else ever get to the point with sh that they just want to cause as much destruction as possible? Total and utter urge to self destruct?
I don't care about the ramifications, I don't care about the downstream impacts.
I just want to destroy myself.
What do you do?

Maybe see what he says on Tuesday in response to the email you did send (glad you pulled back on the swearing) because apart from anything else it tells him that you don’t feel that the therapy has progressed anything for you at all.

This gives him the chance to say whether he can see areas that have improved, and give you believable feedback that says so,

I know you are feeling really disheartened @Former-Member ...... but I think scum is too strong a word. He couldn’t have any interest in his own profession if he went about thinking of his clients that way, but I can hear that the lack of diagnosis, and lack of answers about your clearly defined goals, is making you feel worthless, and that is a horrible way to feel.

I agree with so many others here who have spoken up and said that a therapist ought to make you feel safe, and well-considered. It is supposed to be a supportive relationship that improves your self-esteem.

If that is not what you’re feeling, and it’s clearly not, then maybe talk to your go about it and consider seeing someone else.

I don't think I'm prepared to see another mental health professional for therapy, let alone anything else.

I'm on a 3 month mental health ban - no meds, no psychiatrists, no gps and I don't think I'll ever do a therapist again. It took everything I had to go to one in the first place. I'm not prepared to do that again.

And it's been 10 years since I've been involved in the mental health system and I'm not too sure it's made a difference at all - Their 'help' might have made no difference at all and I might never need their 'help' again.

And whilst I'm aware it looks like I have severe anger issues - I actually rarely express anger in real life. So that's not somehting I have to worry about with work or friends in my real life. (Although I do have one email account filled to the brim with angry emails sent to myself).

I think at this stage, I just might have to accept that this is what my life is. And make the most of what I've got. Maybe more than this was never even possible? Maybe I never even deserved better?

BTW Thank you for talking to me @Faith-and-Hope,

I know I'm being difficult right now.

I'm just so hurt and angry. And I really need someone to talk to.

I wish and hope that I turn up on Tuesday and I have it all wrong, and he somehow makes it okay.

But I severely doubt that's going to happen.

Here and listening @Former-Member .....

Sending angry emails to yourself sounds like an excellent way to express anger .... I might need to try that in my angry moments. It obviously makes you feel better cos it’s workibg so well for you, and I am glad to hear it’s not something you need to worry about.

You were saying that the therapist thinks you’re an angry person, but that’s okay if you know you’re not. When I first went to see a psychologist to talk about what is happening with our family, he mistook me for a highly anxious person. He gave me a book to read, and I didn’t recognise myself in it at all ..... and took it back and told him so. When I started to explain what was happening at home, it was quickly clear that I was juggling hard in a high anxiety producing circumstance, which is very different.

Do you keep a mood journal @Former-Member ? I am wondering whether there is a pattern of circumstances that causes you to dissociate more. Some people keep a mood journal to identify when they are emotional eating / shopping / sleeping.

Re: I know this post is going to be 'moderated', but I really don't care.

No, I can become an angry person - it's just that I know how not to express it. I choose to do so sometimes becuse it dissaptes quicker if I do.

I just don't express it at work or around my friends.

I express it a lot on here cause I need to vent.

No, I don't keep a mood journal, but I've just started to keep a journal/dairy.

I know what causes me to disociate. Feeling intense emotions. Mainly when I feel threatened, or vulnerable or hurt...... and angry.

But according to my therapist - I don't dissociate, I'm just attention seeking.

Re: I know this post is going to be 'moderated', but I really don't care.

Wow .... if that’s what he has said, then yep, I would be changing therapists ..... grrrr ....

That doesn’t make sense at all in relation to what you have been saying. An attention-seeking person would be expressing anger and whatever else got them attention around their friends, work colleagues, at uni ..... everywhere. Instead, you have strategies to keep yourself from that sort of attention .....

Wow.

I have just started a gratitude journal. I am trying to focus on what is positive about our shift, and I figure writing it down is going to make me think about it, and concentrate on it, instead of everything and everyone I have had to leave behind. I will draw and glue images into it as well. Colours stay with me, so that will hopefully bring the images to mind when I am struggling.

The last time I did something like this was in high school ..... and I’m a dinosaur .... lol ....

myselRe: I know this post is going to be 'moderated', but I really don't care.

To clarify - he didn't specifically state that I was attention seeking. He just made a really, really big deal about how I zone out in every appointment, said in a really negative way. But he didn't address the zoning out or how I feel when it happens or how I could stop myself. He just made a really big deal about how I did it each and every appointment. And he watched this happen for a year not giving a shit about it.

I like any normal person likes a little bit of attention - but angry pants 5-HT is not good attention. But on the same hand, angry pants 5-HT holds onto it if it's not addressed, solved or validated.

Just you wait until 5-HT learns a new skill or finishes a crafty project - there WILL be clamoring for attention then.

With my new diary I plan to keep an eye on how much effective study i do, and exercise as well. And just generally my mood, anxiety, sleep etc. More for me to be able to remember it, than to track it if that makes sense.

Re: myselRe: I know this post is going to be 'moderated', but I really don't care.

It makes perfect sense @Former-Member .... a sensible approach to keeping on track, for sure .....

No surprise you were zoning out in each appointment if it was really stressful for you, and he left you feeling upset about that by commenting on it but not supporting you ..... that’s not great.

I think it’s natural to hold on to anger if it’s not addressed, solved, or validated. I do. In fact I needed a lesson in that quite some years ago now because I had become really bitter about being stuck in an in-law issue I couldn’t resolve, and didn’t recognise what was happening to me. A counsellor helped me out along with a friend who had recommended him.

Re: I know this post is going to be 'moderated', but I really don't care.

Why would he do this to me?
I am so angry and so hurt.
What is wrong with the mental health profession? Why are they such *****?
Doesn't he know I have no other options? Why would he play with my life like that?
