Not coping with life - may trigger

Not coping with life - may trigger

I've noticed my mood and outlook on life lately dip a bit (I've largely hidden it from everyone though). Today I just woke up and wished I wasn't here anymore. I went to therapy and cried my eyes out openly, something I don't normally do. Tonight I am getting by with having a couple of stiff drinks (don't worry I never have more than a couple, I learned my lesson a few years ago with regards to drinking too much. I just feel so confused. It is hard to put a finger on why (I guess there's lots of reasons really).

I am losing sight of ever living my dream... Having a great job in the field of mental health, having my own home and a loving family to support me. Just typing those words made me realise how impossible that dream is. Instead I am just a lowly pensioner who keeps having breakdown after breakdown and letting life pass me by. I just don't know what I am supposed to do anymore! It is just so frustrating! I am so angry at myself to let all I had in my previous life (before MI) slip through my fingers.

I just am not coping with anything at the moment. I pretend to be 'happy' in order to try and feel happy (that old fake it til you make it adage). I am just super stressed out. I am supposed to have the best day in my life coming up in a few months, but to be honest I couldn't give a rats about it deep down. Yes, I love my gf and yes I want to spend the rest of my life with her, but it all just seems too hard. I just want to go to bed and hide (or worse).

Sorry this is such a ramble, I don't mean it to be. I've had racing thoughts all day. I tried doing a mindfulness meditation but couldn't for longer than a minute without opening my eyes and being distracted. I guess what triggered me the most was my lack of a relationship with my father. When I was a little girl, he used to love my company and would spend many hours reading to me and spending time with me. Now he seems allergic to my presence. I rarely hear from him and only see twice per year (if that). He is the only family I have, but he is only seemingly interested in his new family (my stepmother and her child and grandkids). He even said to me he wished I was never born to my face. That remark still stings today, years after he said it. It just breaks my heart.

I guess I should stop rambling and hit 'post' before my life story becomes too recognisable and people who are on this forum that I know in RL might recognise me.

Cest le vie.

Re: Not coping with life - may trigger

I thought about that @Kurra. I'd like to, trust me. I even thought about getting a puppy that can be trained by an organisation to be a psychiatric assistance dog. Problem is, we've got a full house and it isn't my home so I come last in the decision making process unfortunately. I wouldn't even be able to have a goldfish without the new cat getting it.

Besides, if the relationship sours and I am forced to leave, I am more likely to secure housing faster without a pet. I've been homeless before and that is just my thinking now. Avoid that scenario at all costs! I am always forward planning. Call me once bitten twice shy.

When I was married and owned my own home, I had animals like horses and dogs. I used to cry into their fur and they'd just want to be with me no matter what. That was over a decade ago now.

Pursue the idea of a psychiatric assistance dog @Queenie. You can't be Cinderella for the rest of your life.

Let's say worst case scenario and you have to find other accommodation, the laws of this land state that you cannot be denied entry to anywhere including housing with any type of assistance animal. Just make some enquiries. 🤞💌

Re: Not coping with life - may trigger

@Kurra I don't want to be Cinderella either. It pains me having to constantly come second, but I'm terrified of overstepping the mark and losing what I have. I've been to the point where I've literally had nothing and now what I do have, however meagre, is like precious gold.

Re: the psychiatric assistance dog - I'd have to wait until I no longer live here I think. Otherwise it'd be far too complicated. I was initially told I could get a pup to be trained when the old dog passed away, now that won't be happening. I'll get one eventually, one day. Just not anytime soon as with two dogs and now one cat, it's a full house.

@Queenie
I too have been homeless and lost just about everything so I do know what you've experienced. It's a really hard one lass. Please prioritise looking after you. 💜

Thanks @Kurra

I'm sorry you've also had to endure homelessness in your past. For me it was around the time of my deepest ever depression.

@Former-Member. Wow. That was an interesting short interview. Although I'm not schizophrenic - I could relate to this story.
It's very easy for others and ourselves to label normal feelings as something wrong or bad. And in this womans case - her mind then projected to a voice.
Family dynamics can often have a very negative impact on our lives - especially mental health.
Thank you for the link.

Re: Not coping with life - may trigger

Really not doing too well tonight folks. Just feel incredibly sad. The family are having a music evening but I just don't feel like joining in. I've been sleeping all day and just feel like being by myself. I'm so sorry for not being more supportive of late. I admin a mh group on Facebook and haven't even been doing that of late. I feel like a complete and utter charlatan. Like, why should I promote good mental health, when I can't even manage my own? I don't belong there. I don't belong anywhere.

I've been having fights with my gf and tonight, even though it was only a joke on her part, she said she was calling off the ceremony. It really hurt, probably because of my already low mood, who knows?! My voices are annoying but not overwhelming yet, just noise I can't rid of. They keep telling me to do terrible things, but I know it is just my own factured mind, not reality.

I feel so so sad 😞

Re: Not coping with life - may trigger

@Queenie. Sounds like a really hard time tonight. Some 'jokes' just shouldn't be said. They aren't funny and they hurt. Maybe tomorrow when things have relaxed a bit, you and your gf can discuss what comments - even in a joking manner - shouldn't be said. It's a good conversation for all relationships - as we all have sensitive responses to different things.
It's hard when you want quiet time and your partner wants the opposite. I hope you find a quiet spot in your house.
Thinking of you. ♥♥

Re: Not coping with life - may trigger

@utopia I think it is a conversation that we'll have to have sooner rather than later, even though I am so passive and can't stand the prospect of any sort of confrontation. I'll try to make it a positive thing if I can at all for both our sakes.

I hope with all my heart I wake up tomorrow and these dark clouds have passed me by. But being realistic I doubt it, I've just got to learn to cope as best I can I guess.

Thanks for repying, I always appreciate your posts.
