Happy New Years Eve 2025! Feel free to tag any members I may have missed - sorry!

This is a discussion post to celebrate the past year of 2025 and to let others know what’s been great, not so great and what is going on in your world tonight and into the new year. Feel free to let others know your highlights, lowlights, etc, as well as what you’ve got planned for tonight, if anything! Basically, anything goes so feel free to join in and enjoy the last of 2025!

I realise that today may be difficult for some forum members and that’s perfectly okay if you don’t feel like celebrating or sharing anything. The main thing is that you are here and that’s a massive achievement so well done on making it to today and to the end of the year👍🏻!

I’ll get this party started with some ideas, etc. Feel free to add to the list - I look forward to seeing what other things forumites list and have enjoyed over 2025.

- Favourite Sporting Event- Brisbane Lions AFL Grand Final win followed by the Hobart Hurricanes Women’s Big Bash Cricket grand final win

- Favourite holiday- a cruise to the Great Barrier Reef on Carnival Splendor followed by my trip to Echuca

- Favourite new hobby - Learning how to do diamond painting at a mental health facility in February and keeping up the hobby afterwards

- Favourite music - Luke Combs (recently discovered him and love his music)

- TV Show - Gossip Girl on streaming app 9Now and Gogglebox

- Greatest Achievement this year - Becoming a carer for my housemate and learning how to navigate the carer space with new strategies gained from accessing a peer carer giving me ideas on how to handle this new role. A shout out to all forumites who have helped me as I’ve worked through this new role and its various challenges- thank you! Also being accepted into the Bachelor of Social Work for next year at uni - 2026.

- Favourite Craft Hobby - Knitting followed by crochet with several projects like kids jumpers, blankets and beanies completed for charity. My 4mm crochet hook also became my new favourite craft tool of the year along with my 4.5.mm knitting needles as they really helped me deal with stress and anxiety over the year.

- Favourite Scent for Mental Health - Eucalyptus

- Favourite book I read - The Road Trip by Tricia Stringer

- Favourite self care strategies this year - Crochet granny squares, journaling and using my eucalyptus spray

Tonight is a quiet night at home watching tv or maybe a movie with my housemate and having pizza. I’ll watch the fireworks displays on TV as well.

Next year is full of exciting times with me going back to uni to study my social work qualification- 4 years- whilst living in student accommodation for the first year at least. It’ll be weird being back on campus as the last time was for my first degree in 2004 - University of Tasmania in Launceston- but I’m looking forward to it and the new adventures and challenges it offers at a new uni. Roll on 2026!

Lets continue this 2025 party🥳!

Take care!

Re: New Years Eve 2025 Discussion Thread 🥳

@Judi9877 yes I have lodged online complaint which is next step after going to RTO. when they get back to me they will point me to right place, well guess they do it, cos had to fill out what happened.

oh I meant re maybe tafe courses would count. I have toyed with idea of going back to uni.horrible job network people claimed centrelink only paid on the one degree, I dont trust a word they say. I paid my hecs off years ago, still repaying centrelink payments I had to forgo to get student loan near 30years ago though.

yes no country trains in SA ,got rid of them years ago. there are a couple in WA, not many.

Happy New Year to you as well

Hi @Healandlove . I’m so glad you’re here on the forums and willing to celebrate others achievements despite not feeling the best. You are a valued member of the forums and I enjoy having you around with your insights and knowledge into mental health. Surviving each day is a massive accomplishment and even just the next minute or hour is massive -I’ve had depression in the past with dark thoughts as well so I can relate to what you might be going through. I’m glad you’ve got support of family and friends around you as well which is important at this time of the year.

I hope you have a great 2026 and things improve for you.

Re: New Years Eve 2025 Discussion Thread 🥳

I don't set New Year's resolutions, I think they're temporary, fleeting things. Last year, I started to follow Mel Robbins' suggestions on how to reflect on the year, and plan for the new year.

This involves journalling the answers to the following questions.

1. What were the low points of the year?

- What did you need most during these moments?

2. What were the high points?

- What were the common threads?

3. What did you learn?

4. What are you going to stop doing?

- What has it cost you so far? What will change when you stop?

5. What are you going to continue doing?

- How does this move your life in the right direction? What's one simple way to keep this going into the new year?

6. What are you going to start doing?

- Why do you want to start it? What will add to your life? What's an easy first step to get things going?

So, this morning I sat in a coffee shop, with a large cuppa and journalled my answers. This is only the second year of reflecting like this, and it's interesting what comes up.

Re: New Years Eve 2025 Discussion Thread 🥳

Hi @Snowie . Thanks for the positive comments regarding this thread. It’s very much appreciated! Sometimes it’s important to look back on the year in order to see how far you’ve come which is why I thought this thread could be interesting and important for some people. I know I’ve changed a lot and I’m proud of the person I’ve become- a lot stronger, more resilient and creative- so that’s important to me.

I wish you all the best for 2026 and look forward to seeing you on the forums.

You are an important member of the forum community and I’ve really enjoyed having you around as you’re so kind, inclusive and inspiring as well as knowledgeable and intelligent.

Re: New Years Eve 2025 Discussion Thread 🥳

Hi @NightFury . Thank you for posting here in the discussion. I find your post to be very interesting and thought provoking on a positive side so well done on posting the questions. You’ve certainly given me some things to think about and reflect and some new information to reflect in my new journal entry. Do you journal often? This is something I used to do many years ago but got turned off it after my sister found a journal and read it and criticised it as not being true. This is the same person who got jealous when I made a submission to a royal commission into mental health and it got published which she didn’t like as she’d always thought of herself as being a great writer and obviously wasn’t after all. I’m now looking to start journaling more often as I feel a lot better mentally and emotionally after getting things down and out of my head.

Have a great 2026!
