Happy New Years Eve 2025! Feel free to tag any members I may have missed - sorry!

This is a discussion post to celebrate the past year of 2025 and to let others know what’s been great, not so great and what is going on in your world tonight and into the new year. Feel free to let others know your highlights, lowlights, etc, as well as what you’ve got planned for tonight, if anything! Basically, anything goes so feel free to join in and enjoy the last of 2025!

I realise that today may be difficult for some forum members and that’s perfectly okay if you don’t feel like celebrating or sharing anything. The main thing is that you are here and that’s a massive achievement so well done on making it to today and to the end of the year👍🏻!

I’ll get this party started with some ideas, etc. Feel free to add to the list - I look forward to seeing what other things forumites list and have enjoyed over 2025.

- Favourite Sporting Event- Brisbane Lions AFL Grand Final win followed by the Hobart Hurricanes Women’s Big Bash Cricket grand final win

- Favourite holiday- a cruise to the Great Barrier Reef on Carnival Splendor followed by my trip to Echuca

- Favourite new hobby - Learning how to do diamond painting at a mental health facility in February and keeping up the hobby afterwards

- Favourite music - Luke Combs (recently discovered him and love his music)

- TV Show - Gossip Girl on streaming app 9Now and Gogglebox

- Greatest Achievement this year - Becoming a carer for my housemate and learning how to navigate the carer space with new strategies gained from accessing a peer carer giving me ideas on how to handle this new role. A shout out to all forumites who have helped me as I’ve worked through this new role and its various challenges- thank you! Also being accepted into the Bachelor of Social Work for next year at uni - 2026.

- Favourite Craft Hobby - Knitting followed by crochet with several projects like kids jumpers, blankets and beanies completed for charity. My 4mm crochet hook also became my new favourite craft tool of the year along with my 4.5.mm knitting needles as they really helped me deal with stress and anxiety over the year.

- Favourite Scent for Mental Health - Eucalyptus

- Favourite book I read - The Road Trip by Tricia Stringer

- Favourite self care strategies this year - Crochet granny squares, journaling and using my eucalyptus spray

Tonight is a quiet night at home watching tv or maybe a movie with my housemate and having pizza. I’ll watch the fireworks displays on TV as well.

Next year is full of exciting times with me going back to uni to study my social work qualification- 4 years- whilst living in student accommodation for the first year at least. It’ll be weird being back on campus as the last time was for my first degree in 2004 - University of Tasmania in Launceston- but I’m looking forward to it and the new adventures and challenges it offers at a new uni. Roll on 2026!

Lets continue this 2025 party🥳!

Take care!

Re: New Years Eve 2025 Discussion Thread 🥳

Hi @GezzaP . Thanks for replying to my post. Wow! New Zealand sounds amazing- I’m so glad you enjoyed your 6 week holiday! I’ve got a cruise booked for the end of November 2027 to New Zealand for 10 days going to Wellington, Dunedin and Christchurch to celebrate my 50th. I’m really looking forward to it as it’ll be my first overseas trip and a special celebration. My housemate is booked to come along but I’m not sure how she’ll go as we have 5 days at sea before we get to Christchurch and she’s known to be seasick - 2 previous cruises the last 2 years proved my point with this with me sailing through it perfectly!

Have a great 2026!

Re: New Years Eve 2025 Discussion Thread 🥳

Hi @TAB . Thanks for replying! Your past year sounds hectic and interesting yet you managed to survive so well done! I hope your health issues improve soon!

As for the trainer issue, have you made a report to the state training government body? They could possibly investigate the trainer and the organisation with legal ramifications to come from it. It’s just an idea? I had an issue with a TAFE here in Victoria about them telling me that I couldn’t do placement in a certain area because it was too far and not in their zone and because my trainer was old and didn’t want to travel - 40 mins from the TAFE- but I was able to get it overruled as the nearest tafe didn’t offer the course. This same trainer also discriminated against me on my mental health so that was also reported but I do know that the trainer didn’t care as she was retiring in a year anyway.

In regards to my social work degree, I can’t get any credits for previous study as my degree is 16 years old and is deemed to be irrelevant now- an arts degree majoring in public policy and sociology. At least I’ll have some advantage with the basic sociology subject as I can still remember some of the stuff from 2004 when I first studied it. I’m doing education as my minor because my large hecs debt won’t allow me to study psychology subjects- Ed is $600 per subject compared to $2500 per subject for psychology which is 4 units for the minor. I do like education and working in a school would be something I’d be interested in so it’s all good, despite initially wanting to work in a psych ward because of the dramas I’d dealt with with my housemate over the past year- she’s been under the mental health act several times and I thought I might be able to help her later on. That’s life I guess!

I like reading about the train magazines. They sound really interesting! I’ve travelled by train several times this year to regional Victoria such as Echuca, Bendigo and Bairnsdale as it’s cost effective and I like knitting on the train. I’m in regional Victoria so travelling on the country trains is often quicker than the suburban metro trains I’ve previously done as they get to skip most of the metro stops and are less crowded. My sister works in the trains as a station officer at a station so I’ve had an experience travelling with a train driver through the Melbourne loop which was great fun. I’m yet to experience the new train stations that have just opened up in Melbourne recently.

Have a great night with your cat! Best of luck for a great 2026!

Hi @FearofUnknown . Well done on breaking out of anhedonia and getting into a routine. That’s a massive achievement and I’m very proud of you for doing this! Sleep and getting the right diet is important for good mental health recovery so I’m glad you’ve achieved this.

I like your goals of getting a job and being social, as well as spending time here in forumland. You are a great contributor and give great advice and support which I admire in you. I’d also like to try and spend more time next year on the forums - time management will be my key with uni study happening- so that’s also one of my goals.

Have a great night and I wish you a great 2026!

Re: New Years Eve 2025 Discussion Thread 🥳

Hi @SmilingGecko. It’s so great to hear from

you so thank you for replying to my post. This year has been full on for me but I’ve somehow survived and got through it. I’ve discovered a theory of what you fear, you attract so I’ve been trying to use reverse psychology by fearing positive things and it seems to be working on me in a good way so far at least.

I’ve solved my housing situation temporarily by going into student accommodation for at least a year - I’m fed up with rogue property managers who lie and manipulate the truth to try and get what they want and hate when they lose at VCAT residency tribunal- so that’s a positive for the short term.

As for the social work degree, it’s something I should’ve done years ago but didn’t bother with or thought of so now is the time to change that. My horoscope- Leo- is leaning towards study and education next year along with travel so I’m interested to see what comes of it. I’m also a snake in the Chinese new year astrology sign so again, curious to see what happens. I really enjoy your astrology insights as well as this is something that I find interesting yet scary at times as well. I don’t think I’m a true Leo as I don’t like attention on myself but I do see similarities with being a snake. Weird!

Good luck for 2026 and best wishes for the year ahead!
