Happy New Years Eve 2025! Feel free to tag any members I may have missed - sorry!

This is a discussion post to celebrate the past year of 2025 and to let others know what’s been great, not so great and what is going on in your world tonight and into the new year. Feel free to let others know your highlights, lowlights, etc, as well as what you’ve got planned for tonight, if anything! Basically, anything goes so feel free to join in and enjoy the last of 2025!

I realise that today may be difficult for some forum members and that’s perfectly okay if you don’t feel like celebrating or sharing anything. The main thing is that you are here and that’s a massive achievement so well done on making it to today and to the end of the year👍🏻!

I’ll get this party started with some ideas, etc. Feel free to add to the list - I look forward to seeing what other things forumites list and have enjoyed over 2025.

- Favourite Sporting Event- Brisbane Lions AFL Grand Final win followed by the Hobart Hurricanes Women’s Big Bash Cricket grand final win

- Favourite holiday- a cruise to the Great Barrier Reef on Carnival Splendor followed by my trip to Echuca

- Favourite new hobby - Learning how to do diamond painting at a mental health facility in February and keeping up the hobby afterwards

- Favourite music - Luke Combs (recently discovered him and love his music)

- TV Show - Gossip Girl on streaming app 9Now and Gogglebox

- Greatest Achievement this year - Becoming a carer for my housemate and learning how to navigate the carer space with new strategies gained from accessing a peer carer giving me ideas on how to handle this new role. A shout out to all forumites who have helped me as I’ve worked through this new role and its various challenges- thank you! Also being accepted into the Bachelor of Social Work for next year at uni - 2026.

- Favourite Craft Hobby - Knitting followed by crochet with several projects like kids jumpers, blankets and beanies completed for charity. My 4mm crochet hook also became my new favourite craft tool of the year along with my 4.5.mm knitting needles as they really helped me deal with stress and anxiety over the year.

- Favourite Scent for Mental Health - Eucalyptus

- Favourite book I read - The Road Trip by Tricia Stringer

- Favourite self care strategies this year - Crochet granny squares, journaling and using my eucalyptus spray

Tonight is a quiet night at home watching tv or maybe a movie with my housemate and having pizza. I’ll watch the fireworks displays on TV as well.

Next year is full of exciting times with me going back to uni to study my social work qualification- 4 years- whilst living in student accommodation for the first year at least. It’ll be weird being back on campus as the last time was for my first degree in 2004 - University of Tasmania in Launceston- but I’m looking forward to it and the new adventures and challenges it offers at a new uni. Roll on 2026!

Lets continue this 2025 party🥳!

Take care!

Re: New Years Eve 2025 Discussion Thread 🥳

Happy New Year @Shaz51

Do you realise it is 25 years since Sydney Olympics!

Since I stood with my wife and son to be atop Mt Macedon to watch the Millenium Melbourne fireworks from afar, only to be thwarted by clouds.

The only thing to have stood the test of time thus far is my teeth, thankfully.

Are you optimistic or pessimistic about the next 25 years @Shaz51 ?

Am a little bit of a pessimist really, but for my son's sake hope all travels well.

In the meantime, will keep taking my meds, watching my sugar and wonder how the evolution of my life has led to this...

Take care

Re: New Years Eve 2025 Discussion Thread 🥳

Hi @AuntGlow . Thanks for the great comments regarding this thread. Very much appreciated!

I’m looking forward to finally starting a course that will lead me hopefully into a job at the end of it- bachelor of social work. I’m a little annoyed at myself for not finding this course years ago as I have wasted so many years trying to complete a Certificate IV in Mental Health at TAFE to no success as I thought it was the only way to be a mental health worker. I also initially wanted to work in the ndis sector or at a PARCS facility but I’m now leaning towards being a social worker in an education setting as there is a need for this in schools here in Victoria. Living on campus at student accommodation will also be interesting as it’s been over 20 years since I’ve done this. Add to this I’ll be living with my housemate as well as she’s doing a nursing course and taking care of her at the same time which could be an interesting experience. Life is certainly going to be interesting this year for me!

Take care.

It absolutely sounds like it will be an interesting year with a lot of change, but most importantly, a lot of opportunity for growth. @Judi9877 🥰

A social work degree can open up so many different doors too, which is amazing. And whilst it took you a while to find the right degree for you, I do believe in universal timing... so I wonder if you're in a better place to dedicate your energy to this kind of study now? ✨

Student accomodation sounds like it will be a wonderful opportunity to explore connection. And you'll get the perks of different groups and on campus counselling too!

You're such an angel for caring for your housemate. 🥹
