I want to survive this and hear from other survivors like me

I want to survive this and hear from other survivors like me

Hello 🙂

i've gone through so much trauma in the last year and had no one i could trust to talk about it - i'd find someone who appearead to want to help but then had ulterior motives, i feel like when ur vulnerable you have a sign on your forehead to be taken advantaeg of - it draws in really toxic ppl, as i was also new to the NDIS i met afair few ppl who were quite financially motivated and tried to give me a lot of direct advice - direct advice that sounded to my traumatised brain like love and friendship - when i didn't do what they wanted or challenged them they disappearaed. I realise it was always conditional.

I have my good friends who I trust but its less and less - its me and my 3 friends against the world. I feel so scared of the world sometimes, like everything and everyone is a threat. I sufferd a very destablising and scary event 2 years ago and since then rebuilding has been a mess.

The way I get by is very small stetps - i leave the house, go for a cofee, have my lovely best friend support worker who I'll call Maisie, and have my really good friends who i have known for a long time.

I just feel so let down by this stupid world. I don't know how to not be cynical and hateful, after so much horrible stuff happens.
I have found the extetnt of mental health support I got when i reached out was just cheerleading - telling me that i'd be fine and how lucky i was - which was just really not true to the pain i felt inside.

Thank you for reading

Re: I want to survive this and hear from other survivors like me

hi @TunedIn i know really well wht i need, and i also have been advised by my GP to use Pysch Triage, which I did. They said to wear a mask but go out over the next few days to not be so isolated. I don't know if i can see my support work socially. I am scared of being contagious. But I want to also ensure I get good care and support at this time

I feel a little uncofortable with moderators process, can u explain your role, as it doesn't not mention peer work. Do u provide clinical oversight here? Thanks

Hi @EternalFlower,

That's great you know what you need and are following the advice of your GP and trying to find ways to keep connected, despite the fears of being contagious🌿.

The Moderators role on the forum is to facilitate peer to peer support between members, and moderate from a counselling perspective. They try to keep the forums as safe as possible, ensuring posts are focused on recovery and support. I hope that explains it more clearly🌻. Is there anything in particular you feel uncomfortable about?

hi @TunedIn

yes - do they have lived experience

do they act a aclinical voice/ie psychologists/counsesllors

- are they our peers?

- Do they help us or are they looking at us fromm risk etc - as an other

-If we have a concern, do they close rank around us - or do they hear us too

- how we make sure the forums dont' replicate heirachies and power imabalances which cause harm?

No worries

I need to feel safe and welcome on the forums @TunedIn, doesn’t feel that way some times. Ways to change things for this to happen? Who knows

I need to see a psychiatrist that I feel safe and comfortable with, to know he/she is actively listening and hearing me. To not feel like I’m fobbed off again. To do review of my meds and consider all other possible meds.
need a psychologist with whom I feel safe, that I can be myself, discuss things and for he/she to do things they say they will. I’m hoping new psycholgist I have first appointment with next month is that person

Re: I want to survive this and hear from other survivors like me

Me motivated @EternalFlower, …. uuummm brain and body have different views on this. Active, not really which has its own issues. I play croquet once a week, majority of people in the teams are good company and for general chats.

I have physical health conditions which restrict types of things I can do. I have set of muscle strengthening activities I’m suppose to do, activities set by my physiotherapist. I attended chair yoga group last year which I found was good for joints, need to find the balance within activities now to help myself.

my story in brief, born to parents who both had trauma backgrounds and lived in 3room house until house was fully built when I was late primary. Verbally controlled by one (or both parents) plus paternal grandfather from early primary school. Fears of abandonment and panic attacks started in late primary following death of 2 very close relatives. Child of DV. Co-dependant for years after death of my father, my mother used my fears of abandonment on regular basis. Widowed in 2020. Retired early in 2021 due to toxic workplace. Family and step children don’t keep in contact. My children have fur, paws and purr. my cats are my companions, my reason for getting up each day and have saved my life.

I’ve live through black periods of time and have come through them. Still learning to view myself as a survivor. I view myself as fighter who has come through lots of MH battles. I’m not broken therefore don’t need fixing, being controlled or having decisions made for me (things I’ve experienced various times on and off forums). Having people to talk with about the struggles is so important and, for me, helpful

@EternalFlower hoping the day is treating you kindly so far. At present I'm taking each day as it comes.

Lining up supports isn't easy. I'm going to ask to be waitlisted with someone who was recommended to me. Maybe a care manager can help

Hope you haven't got Covid or similar.

Take care.

That's completely fair @Former-Member! Anything new can feel uncomfortable and daunting at first... you're allowed to be where you're at. I am curious to hear what happens. 🤩
