Talking through trauma and PTSD

Running

Running

"Behind every strong person is a story that gave them no choice"

My life is all about a lack of choice.

I'm alive because death would've outed him, it would have sealed his fate in prison.

TW: cultic, rape, trafficking, torture

I'm the daughter of a Satanist...

One trained to breed...

One pregnant at 6 years old...

One prostituted to whoever could afford her...

The girl her dad didn't want...

One men hired to have fun with...

One men experimented with...

One who was tortured for speaking up...

One trained for the sole purpose to please her buyer...

Regardless of age...

Still though...

One who never stayed silent...

One who broke free... twice...

One who rose up...

One who seeks to prove them wrong...

One who has been running for 15 years...

One who just needs to feel heard...

One who went through hell and survived...

That this Phoenix can rise...

She will not be burned...

She's proven that...

I have proven that...

I'm 35 and 90% of those I've been in prolonged abusive situations insufficient evidence for prosecution

A system that protects the abuser more than the survivor

And yet I still try

I don't try for me, I try for the ones after me, the ones like me, that they will see their justice

But for now I run...

From a dad that wants me silenced...

From the nightmares that plague my sleep...

From the memories that invade my mind...

From the choices made for me...

Didn't expect that to come out as poetic as it did

Re: Running

@avant-garde that poem is beautiful and perfect. That is God speaking of you. He loves you so much, His heart breaks when yours breaks.

Much love to you, a perfect child of God xo

@ENKELI

My therapist asked me last week how I see the trauma memories stored visually in my mind, some have filing cabinets, others have boxes. I wasn't sure what mine were stored in for a few days until I was reminded of an image I had dreamed of as a teenager; vials of tears.

Re: Running

@avant-garde Casting Crowns song Praise You in This Storm has a line -

"Every tear I've cried, You hold in Your hand"

The visual of that draws me nearer to God.

I think tears in vials is appropriate

Psalm 56:8 - "You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?"

Re: Running

It's my mum's birthday tomorrow and it always brings up mixed emotions because of how emotionally unstable she was during my childhood and adolescence...

TW: sexual abuse

Content/trigger warning
Up until I was 4 years old I don't remember a great deal about her, nothing of negative or positive consequence.
One day everything changed though, when I woke up to mum and dad yelling about me, mum trying to protect me from him and trying to stand up to him, the day I saw him hit her.

Mum was different after that, it was like she was fragmented, I stopped being her daughter for the most part and became... I don't know what I became to her...

Eventually she fragmented further and I started seeing distinct personalities in her, one that was like my dad... opportunistic...

There was something sinister in her that she took it out on me... I won't ever forget her screaming that I stole her husband... vindictive little brat... or when she started sexually abusing me too... one of her alters wanted to get in on the action... except this alter had no regard for my life...

I do miss my mum, but I think I grieve for her a lot more than I actually miss her... I miss the mum that protected me and recognised me, the one who loved me... not the fragmented person she became...

Hey @avant-garde ,

Thank you for sharing. I can see how those mixed emotions will come into play when you remember your mum.

Can you think of ways to work through this grief? Does talking about her more help?

Re: Running

@tyme

She's still alive but still with my dad which is painful because I was consistently blamed by my aunt that I should've gotten her out too.

I don't really talk about my mum and how I feel about her because I've never had anyone to hear me out and understand not just who she was, but who she became. What I hate is that regardless of what she did to me I still miss her! Who in their right mind would miss one of their abusers!

Yeah there's a lot of confusion

Re: Running

I still see it as a form of grief in a way. Do you?

It can be likened to a loss.

And yes, for some, talking about it really helps, and for others, it doesn't @avant-garde

I guess it's what you feel works best for you

Re: Running

@tyme

A grief for the mum she never was and the mum I never had, yes.

For me talking helps because it challenges the silence narrative
