While in hospital

While in hospital

Today I wrote to the local hospital to complain about my treatment on the weekend.
When I first arrived in ED I was treated with care and empathy. Due to my physical complaint and my mental illness I was reassured each time a test was being done by the doctor. Then I was transferred to short stay unit. Again I was given great care. But during the night I got worse temp went sky high I was dehydrated snd almost fainted.
The nurse called a dr to come and see me. He was the rudest doctor I have ever had. He was short abrupt and said "oh you only have a cold". Had he checked my notes he would have seen I had to have a ct scan for possible blood clot. And that I had to speak to CAT team. And that the doctor in ED wrote down high heart rate and wheeze in chest. He spoke to me like I was a little kid.

I feel that because of my mental illness I wasn't treated right. I never want this doctor to treat me agsin. And it's the second time I've had him and both times he was terrible. No bedside manner at all. So after thinking about it today I decided to write and put my complain in writing. I don't need to be treated like this.

I'm hoping to hear back from the hospital.

Re: While in hospital

Oh @BluBay, feel for you being in hospital. Asthma is a hard one (we need oxygen), the medication can make you feel agitated or anxious too, and the sterile closed in environment. Not good. Hope you get a window bed maybe.

Yry imagine yourself at a beautiful Bay, like the one in your profile an breathe deap, mindfulness meditation on you and healing your body. Centre yourself.

Another thing i do in to keep my mind stimulated is Iook for 5things in the room say it backwards dropping the last one each time. Or see how many objects there are in one colour & name them. Do the whole rainbow.
I like those adult colouring in books, the thicker ones make good cards.
I recommend talking books from the library (ear phones, CD player) while in hospital. Maybe a portable DVD player.
Getting carried away sorry.

Better go feed my pet bluetongue and check mail before dark.

Love and light beams coming your way. Hugzz xox

Re: While in hospital

Ah sheesh @BlueBay

I gotcha back - I have known this all along and actually you have too - but the penny took its time falling and bingo - now the painful truth has really hit

It was - sometimes still this - this way for me with my mother and she died and I still wonder what the heck I was supposed to do about this horrible mess - it was wasn't my fault - it wasn't your fault

And it's so in your brain and in your face that other people have Mum's that visit - I am so sorry

Grief hurts - realisation hurts - truth hurts - all this is a sign of you healing

I know because I have been where you are about the mother thing myself

Oh dear - Dec

@Decadian
I was so upset yesterday. I ended up speaking to a nurse and she said I knew all along but it's just hit me now. And she agreed it is hard to see other mums visit their daughters. Not sure if I told you before but I'm Italian background and family is everything to me.
I'm going to have to try to move forward some way. I had a feeling this was going to happen and I'm glad it did while in hospital.
Still not good with cough my head and neck hurts from the coughing.
I'm allowed to go home for a few hours today. Looking forward to seeing jersey girl. I'll take her for a play down the beach.
And I'm not going to clean the house no way. Huff n puff can do that.
I feel I have no energy atm so I'm taking it slow. Haven't even been walking because of my asthma and cough.
Still in shared room.
@Decadian you understand don't you about mums. I know you do. The pain is still raw it's still painful. I miss my dad so much I just want s hug from him. The nurse told me yesterday that the little girl in me is trying to come out. I agreed but told her I was scared because I feel so alone.
Hoping to see kids today when they finish work. If not we'll prob catch up with them tomorrow for a coffee.
I know I need this hospital stay and I need the money too. But my health is more important. The last two nights I've been awake and all I have are racing thoughts and all I can see is a big fat zero in my psy next week.
I'm trying to not think about it but it's really difficult.
Sorry I'm rambling on a bit. They're hopefully adding another med on Monday. I'm a bit worried but have to trust the 2 psychs that I saw and their recommendation. What they suggest is a med that will boost my mood and energy. Therefore I'll lose weight as It affects your appetite which I don't mind. And better I'm in here so I can be monitored. I do feel safe in here.
I better go and have a shower breakfast is in 1/2 hour. You know I said I'd have a break from being on here but I feel so alone without the forum.
Take care @Decadian hope you're well.
Sorry I haven't replied back to any posts.

Re: While in hospital

Hi @BlueBay

Ah so your family is ITALIAN - yes I know about mothers and I know about Italian families too - the family is the centre of the universe and everything - family is the be all and end all - and it makes the way your mother has behaved all the more shocking - how could she?

I am half Irish and half English - on Dad's side it was all stiff upper lip and I learned not to show emotions - my Irish side is emotional - but Mum couldn't be upset - aw no - and she was all Irish - and yet that stiff upper lip ruled our lives

Anyway - yes that is hard seeing how the mums come into visit their daughters - so hard - I remember when I first hurt my spine and had not seen my mother for so long and spoken to her decently for longer - I was lying on a trolley in the hospital where I had a C-T scan and a mylogram - and I had to be transferred back to the hospital where I was a patient - and I was waiting in the foyer without my glasses and a lady saw me staring at her I guess - she looked like my mother and as she came out of the mist I could see she did indeed look like my mother - but she did not act at all like my mother - she was a lovely mother who took over for a few minutes and stood beside my trolley and said the the comforting things a mother would say. She was wonderful and I cried

She understood - as I understand you I guess - I am probably the right age to be your mother - sometimes a motherly figure will appear out of the mist of your sorrow and tears - and understand.

And your being of an Italian background - yes I do understand that -

I'm glad you are taking in some weekend leave today - let Huffnpuff do all the chores - after all with his OCD you can't really do it to his satisfaction - he is the only one who will do this, turn this off, pick that up, the the other in the right place - I do understand that and with asthma - dust really brings it on and I haven't vacuumed for decades - I have had my blood tested - I have a housewife's dream allergy - I have a sky high allergy to dust mites - you might too with asthma - no vacuuming

You are physically ill as well - so you need the rest from the hospital and your need a rest from the household chores and it sounds as if the settling in period at the hospital has happened - rough start - and then the hard work of finding out about your decision making and finding stuff hurting you so much etc comes from - like your mother telling you you were good enough - that Mother DVD in your head is sooo hard to get rid off

I undertsand - the Forum Family is the soft place to land - as seperate members we fill in for the real thing - and we care - and You will get by with a little help from your friends

Lots of hugs Blue

Re: While in hospital

Hi @Decadian
I didn't get notification of your post. I'm back in hospital. I left about 11.30 and told the nurse I'll be back about 7pm tonight. But I got home and one look at the kitchen sink I had to get the jiff. Then I went into the ensuite and had to quickly clean up the mess there. Huff n puff said don't worry I'll do it later but I couldn't. I know I'm bad. Anyway younger son was home so we decided to go for coffee and son shouted lunch. By then it was about 3pm and I said to hubby I think I'll go back because I was tired and had another headache. Now I'm laying on my bed. But do you know what the best bit was? - heating jersey girl cry when she saw me. She was sooking snd jumping and licking. It was so good to see her. I talked and played with her for a while.
I'm still physically not well but it's good they have a GP here that is checking me daily. I have to have a ecg, a chest X-ray and an echo cardiogram on Monday to make sure heart is all good before my psych can give me extra medication.
Yeah it's tough about realisation and facing it. I think I am ok it's just when I see other mums here it makes me sad.
I better Dec my headache is actually getting worse think I will go and get some tablets.
Take care my friend
Chat soon. Xxxooo

Re: While in hospital

Glad you are getting approriate medical support @BlueBay

At the moment I am watching a great documentary on Italian Geology on youtube .. as entertainment.

I had a few Italian childhood friends .. and luckily reconnected with one yesterday online .. we will catch up in New Year.

I like understanding the links between Italian geology and the formation of marble etc in the mountains... and italian aesthetics and cleanliness habits .. and all those acres of marble gleaming floors ..

Ha Ha .. I am such a nerd ... take care @BlueBay

Re: While in hospital

Aw @BlueBay

That is not good - to come home on weekend leave and find the kitchen and en suite in a mess - that would make me furious -

You're not bad to clean it up - but you are physically unwell as well has battling with your MI and this seems just really bad-husband behaviour - after all - what happened to all this huffing and puffing and being the only one who could do it right

I am sorry you had all that happen and glad you went back to the hospital and I am glad their is a physician at the hospital to have a look at you

Oh dear - Huff n Puff is determined to make things hard for you
