Something’s not right

I don’t like feeling obliged to explain

I don’t like feeling obliged to explain

I had a rough call from uni today, I essentially felt blamed for not getting my driver licence already since I’ve been in this course for a while (it makes finding placements harder). I just put it as my circumstances made it hard without elaboration, then she said “right”. I felt judged. Am I a failure for suffering from migraines (migraines can cause mild vision disturbances along with poor concentration, it means I am more likely to speed) and MH? I didn’t explain because it’s my personal life. The placement I turned down in May wouldn’t have been good for my MH either, even if it wasn’t for the distance, vicarious trauma and personal trauma still stings. Now I am looking at getting into a placement that will hopefully be less psychologically demanding. Though no confirmation received yet, I haven’t had the interview

Hey there @creative_writer

I just wanted to pop in and say that it is so valid to feel upset or hurt by things, even if it looks like others also experience it. How are you feeling today?

Sitting with you

Re: I don’t like feeling obliged to explain

@Former-Member, I guess peers in my course. A lot of them have jobs and volunteer experience. I just don’t have much experience. You know how they say you should volunteer and work to get some experience as part of career development. I wasn’t able to do much of that so far. I feel guilty that I had to leave my volunteer experience temporary because of my MH, it infuriates me. Getting lots of experience is the norm, I feel like an outlier. Like I’ll be competing against others, but what do I have to offer?

@amber22, it’s been rough, maybe I’m just eating my head

Hi @creative_writer

I challenge you if you are up to it.

I want you to tell me the best thing that has happened today for you.

Only one thing.

If I reply late, I may be offline

One thing!

Hi @creative_writer

Did you think of one good thing that has happened today to share with me?

Maybe you are having dinner.

Please let me know or advise you do not want to. That is also fine

@Former-Member, sorry for not replying sooner. I think a heavy head never helps the situation. Feeling rather stuffy lately🤧. I made myself some afternoon tea today, with ginger and matcha 🍵

Re: I don’t like feeling obliged to explain

Hi @creative_writer

If one of the best things that happened today was you made yourself some "afternoon tea, with ginger and matcha" I think that is excellent.

We only have to find one thing.

So thank you for sharing.

Next time you make afternoon tea try and relax, smell it, and enjoy it.

Small successes and joy make it all worth it.

To clarify something I am a coffee person. So we have to realise we are all individual and if I have coffee and you have afternoon tea with ginger and matcha, that is fine. What I have will not affect you and no one is greater. We are the same but have different tastes.

Thank you

Please try and think of one good thing for you each day.

Hi @creative_writer

I hope you are fine

Have a great evening

Hope the sniffle is better

Re: I don’t like feeling obliged to explain

@Former-Member, I was having dinner, heated some fish from the freezer, and made vegetables and ate some bread. I hope you are doing okay this evening. Did you have dinner?

Sniffles are still here, at least I’m not sneezing right now. I wonder if that explains migraines. I lost part of my eyesight (blind spot from aura) yesterday for a short while. Blind spot was so oddly shaped and moved around, auras are so weird. It didn’t happen today at least, so maybe I’m on the mend?

Hi @creative_writer

Catch you soon.

Re: I don’t like feeling obliged to explain

@Former-Member, I hope you are doing okay. I’m not longer thinking so much about uni stuff, I still do feel incompetent. I’m obsessing over food today, I feel like I must exercise obsessively. I think it’s my nature, wanting to be perfect in every way. I feel awful about myself after a meal out 😔. I don’t know why it’s more intense right now, I feel the need to control something, I can control diet and exercise
