New puppy new life new Thread.

New puppy new life new Thread.

Both Cookie and I had a big day today. Me getting the house, supplies, space ready and really very anxious about new responsibilities of being a puppy mum. Cookie with travel strange place and being left here by her family.

We had cuddles for a while till she was less anxious her heart was racing. Then I encouraged her to explore a bit with some treats. She is now having a doze in her crate next to me and all seems right with the world. I think I could nearly doze too.

The constant hyper alert status my body has been in seems to have mellowed. I didn't know how bad it had gotten till it went.

I'm sure things will keep going up and down but I haven't felt calm in a very long time.

Just for fun. Actually feeling pretty good this morning. Bit achy from my walk last night. But good.

Update. Had a great walk met another neighbor who I used to spend time in the park with, with our old dogs. She had a beautiful staffy who has passed now. I'm sore now though. Time to rest up.

Re: New puppy new life new Thread.

Took Cookie out to the park this afternoon with my support worker. She had a good sleep and needed to burn off energy. She has become so much more confident. Major zoomies.

I didn't realize my neighbor was out there with her dog and friends. I was anxious but Cookie went nuts and had a great time playing with her dog but was also full on with new people.

I didn't know how to approach my neighbor to get Cookie under control till one of her friends suggested I come over so I settled Cookie somewhat.

It's great seeing Cookie come out of her shell but I need to help her behave better and take her to to exercise in the park more.

When I get my scooter we can go further afield to other dog parks. At the moment everything is tense but I'm trying.

Cookie has her own schedule somewhat with when she needs to burn off energy and when she sleeps so I have to work within that.

The good thing is Cookie really enjoyed playing with my neighbors dog and was a lot more confident. They had a great time and hopefully we can work out how to be in the same space with less stress.

And hopefully with practice and repetition Cookie can curb some of her enthusiasm lol.

Cookie naps in the afternoon are good for both of us.

Big steps today.

That's great, @Gillie1

The positivity between your lines leaves your post floating warmly. 🤗

As a lifelong "dog person" and breeder, may I please offer a tip??

Cookie needs to know you are 'top dog'. It will give her confidence in your leadership, and her obedience will reflect that.

Taking her out for exercise is great to help her burn off excess wattage, but she has to learn to follow your schedule...

It sounds like you're both loving each other. You guys are awesome!

Re: New puppy new life new Thread.

Yes thanks @Kyle1 the first week was us both settling in. We were both scared for different reasons I spent a lot of energy building her confidence and that distracted me from mine but that has worked and worked well.

Now we need to work on training her to be well behaved no matter how much energy she has. She is great with other dogs and when she isn't over excited but we need to work on obedience at all times. Not just when she is feeling mellow.

I have to start interacting with people in the park and outside again in order to train Cookie to interact well with them too.

I'll get a training lead tomorrow and start working.

@Kyle1 .

Just wondering what have you done to build yourself up today? In encouraging you to pay attention to self nourishment I might help myself with that too.

Is that selfish or selfless? I'm not sure but it sounds like we could encourage each other on that.

BTW can you recommend any puppy training youtubers?
