Flashbacks/Nightmares

Flashbacks/Nightmares

I need some advice or suggestions - how do people cope with flashbacks/nightmares.

For the past few nights I have been having flashbacks of my childhood abuse. The guys who abused me, the detail is just horrible. I then wake up exhausted from a terrible night.

Has this happened to others and how did you cope? The other night I was too scared to close my eyes for fear of seeing the abuse right in front of me, so vivid.

I am not coping, is there anyone around @NikNik any mods

I have just chatted online with Lifeline and that wasn't great.

So much stress at home; hubby who is so f...... stubborn with regards to mental illness. my headache has returned; mixed emotions.

my daughter's boyfriend suffers anxiety and hasn't gone to work for 5 weeks; refuses to see a psychologist; is on AD. His mother is an alcoholic and smokes all day. His day has a new partner. He is a really nice guy but will not go to get help.

I spoke to my daughter tonight telling her that she needs to be sure she is happy in her relationship. she is encouraging him to see someone to help him but he won't go.

then my damn hbby says the wrong thing and she has cracked it with him.

i am strugglng big time, i wnat to just leave. leave everything and everyne. my head is so mixed up; can't rest the racing thoughts.

damn everything; damn my stupid mental illness; i can't accept it; i am so hopeless and helpless.

crying will not help; it just gives me more of a headache.

I swear my husband is so damn stupid with regards to mental illness. he has no idea of how people deal with their depression or anxiety and what needs to be done to get help.

i just don't anymore about anything. hopeless and helpless is me; that;s all i am.

Hi @BlueBay

Sorry I haven't posted - I haven't been on-line for a couple of days - Thursday and Friday was chaotic for me

But I can read how desperate you are - nightmares, flashbacks, despair - not good at all

How I wish there was something I could say that would be helpful - it sounds like a real handful for you just dealing with your own life

And now it seems you dd is in a bad relationship - this is not good news at all and I would be worried about that - alas - you can't tell her it not a pleasant scene with a wonderful future - she won't listen to you - but hey - you are a much better bet with the working hard with MI - somehow you are holding your job

Be very open with your GP tomorrow and tell him about the feeling you have of needed to run away or just disappear - all the most appropriate ways you feel about deal with this horrible situation

I am thinking about you

Hugs @BlueBay❤💗💖❤❣💦

I am not feeling too good today. I have been feeling very light headed and have bouts of nasuea. I also feel like i have been hit with a truck, and so tired. I had to go to work and started to feel crap. But I perserved and stayed for 3 hours.

I ended up calling my clinic and my doctor is on call so I called the number and he called me back. I told him how horrible I feel and he said 'looks like you are getting worse and are having withdrawal from the AD'. He said I need to take them again, but only half the dose. I am seeing my psych this coming Tuesday so i will tell him what has been happening and if he gets angry with me then I will give him my GP's number and he can speak with him.

I took my AD and had a sleep for a little while before and i am okay at the moment. We just took Jersey down the beach for a play, but it is really windy and the water is so rough. She was too scared to go in, but it was nice to just sit there.

Home now, think i will take it easy now. Hope everyone is doing okay this afternoon. xxxooo

Hi @BlueBay. How good was it that your doctor was on call. I agree - any issues your psychiatrist may have - he can discus them directly with your gp.
We've had a sunny day here. My boy mowed the front lawn. I've done a quarter of the backyard. Hope no rain tomorrow so I can get more done. I think it would be easier to borrow a goat. Save my energy for something more entertaining than mowing grass.
Just dropped my boy off at the station and I've arrived back home. Now just have to wait for his dad to call and say he met him at the other end. I'm staying calm. Only the slightest anxiety about my boys first solo train trip to Melbourne.
Am exhausted though & think I might have a nap - once I get the call.
I'll be in the Beer Garden later tonight, if you'dlike to catch up

Re: Flashbacks/Nightmares

Hey @utopia

I understand how anxious you would be with your son on the train for the first time. I always panic and worry when any of my kids go on the train. The other night my daughter (24yrs) finished work and had to catch the train to Melbourne for work training, then had to catch the train back to her car at a station at about 8.30pm. I was worried and kept telling her, pls be careful. But when she came home at about 9.30pm she said 'mum there were heaps of people on the train going home from working in the city' and she was okay. But still.

My youngest son (20) has gone to the Caulfield races with his mate. So one of us will be picking them both up from the train station tonight. Not sure what time.

I think it doesn't matter how old your kids are, we as parents always worry. My two boys went out last night and didn't get home until 2am!!! I was in bed asleep but did hear them both chat loudly and thought yes they're home!!!

Hope you get the call soon to say your son arrived safely. Catch you later.

Re: Flashbacks/Nightmares

@BlueBay. 30 minutes late before they caught up together. Could have been a train delay. I didn't ask - as I'd end up sounding like a banshee. I'll find out tomorrow when I pick him up.
Just heading to bed now. Anxiety induced headache. I'll sleep it off. Talk later.

Hi @utopia glad your son got to the city okay. That's good.

You know - I think I want to go back to hospital. I am so confused tonight.
