A Friend in Need,,,,

A Friend in Need,,,,

I closed my poetry thread, no more poetry here.
I wasn't going to post either, but I feel the need to express this somehow or die a tiny bit more inside.
I'm guessing both will happen, regardless.

Today I lost a friend. Not to death but to human nature.
Or rather, as the quote goes:

"I didn't lose a friend. I just realised I never had one"

To me this is worse. Sadly I judge others by my own standards, and I give loyalty and honesty and trust beyond what is sensible.
Even less sensible, is the expectation that it will be returned in like.

In recent years I have come to realise that to .... every single friend really, I am not a friend, I am a convenience.
They only talk to me etc when they are bored and all their 'real friends' are busy.
They only respond to my messages or requests for help ( eg. Assistance moving house), in a similar way. As long as it doesn't inconvenience them or cost them anything.

This is how the world works. I know that.
People prioritise, and I rank low, if at all, on their list.
And that would be fine. Except for the fact that I have always dropped everything I'm doing to help each and every one of them.
I have given friends my last dollar and gone hungry.
I do these things repeatly, and almost always to my own detriment or inconvenience.

I recently failed a house inspection because I was busy working dawn till dusk helping a friend (of over ten years), prepare for theirs.
Their reaction when they found out? They abused me, said I was stupid, and a freak. That nobody does that. They said a lot worse before they terminated our friendship forever.
Because I helped them, instead of helping myself.
Without expectation of reward or returned favour beyond what standard friendship brings.

But I do do that. I will always do that, and I don't apologise for it.

I suppose it's foolish of me to think these things make our friendship stronger, that I might get what I give if I am ever in need. I guess I live In Wonderland after all.

But I feel sad that people often recognise that, and take advantage.
I thought this friend was different, but the truth always come out in the end.

As Friedrich Nietzsche said :

"I'm not upset that you lied to me, I'm upset that from now on, I can't believe you."

In a way, I lost multiple friends. The friend I thought I had, the friend I could have had, and the friend I will never have.

It always surprises me that no matter how completely empty I feel inside and think I am, someone manages to find something new to tear out.

And people wonder why I prefer to be alone.

Re: A Friend in Need,,,,

@Former-Member. I'm so sorry you're so full of hate and black surrounds you. You've been kicked in the teeth too much and it hurts like Hell knowing that people can dish out crap, but are unable to take it. I too was like you, full of hate and anger. I found peace in the knowledge that the people who hurt me most were hurting themselves and I was the 'patsy' for their hurt. Getting on these forums and lashing out at people here is not the way to 'get back' at those who hurt you, though. The best course of action for you is to accept that people are fickle. No matter who we try to help, no matter how often we put ourselves out for others, human nature being what it is, people continue to 'take' and 'use'. We are supposedly taught from a young age to be kind, thoughtful and loving to each other. Peace on earth, unfortunately, reality check, that simply is not the case. Peace only exists in a world where time stands still. Wars still happen, people are killed, and abused every day. I do have friends, good, lasting friends, but I still have to be careful what I say as they too have their problems. As I get older, I have become more understanding and empathetic towards people. I have learned to apologize for unintentionally hurting those I care about. I have also learned that these same people don't necessarily apologize back, but that's okay. I know they don't mean to hurt me and I don't take their lack of apology to heart. I've been called names which hurt, but people who name-call are worse than me if they have to revert to name calling. I sometimes name-call, to myself, feels good too. I'm only human with failings. To the outside world I still protect myself, but in a way that doesn't offend. I seldom apologize for every wrong-doing, usually if someone gets the 'hump', I accept, ignore and just get on with my life. No, I'm far from perfect, never profess to be, just growing up. We're all different, trying to exist in a far from perfect world. It's all we've got, till something better comes along.

@pip

Umm ok. I'm not sure we're on the same page.

I got angry at one point, but at no one in particular except frustration,

I don't think I lashed out at anyone, and said I still talk to those people who wronged me. If you bothered to read my post, I explained I didn't even say a single mean thing in response.

And I thought my explanation to everyone as to why I felt the conversation was not useful was quite reasonable in its phrasing, given the state of mind I was in.

The only person I was angry or maybe lashed out at was myself.

The only person I expressed hate towards is myself.

Anything else said, if it was said, ( I couldn't see it on a flick back through) was a general expression of frustration, and again, really only aimed at myself.

So yes, I'm full of hate and anger, but only for myself.

I hate myself. I say horrible, damaging things...to myself. And I'm angry at myself, and maybe the universe, but frankly, I don't think the universe really cares that much.

I appreciate your comments, but again, this is what caused the earlier incident,

People might listen, but they don't hear what I'm saying, everyone just wants to tell me how I should be acting and feeling.

Even though you phrased it as a self story, I'm not really so stupid that I can't see what's going on.

Your story was a parable.

And people seem to think when I point these things out that I'm angry and ungrateful. All I'm doing, quite calmly I think, is saying, I've already said it once "don't tell me how to feel."

The fact that you didn't use direct orders, that you used an anecdotal story, doesn't mean you didn't do it.

Everyone is so keen to tell me their views that no one actually stops and bothers to listen to me.

Now I'll be viewed as an ungrateful bitch again, for standing up for myself and clarifying things that shouldn't need further clarification.

That's awesome.

I got one too.

The moderator thought we were about to draw swords and have it, and removed those posts

I explained we were just messing around with the joke of out-smart-a$$ing each other, and the posts seem to have been restored.

Sorry if you felt that you got sent to the naughty corner because of me. 😉
