Life after hospital

Life after hospital

Hi @NikNik@CherryBomb @Decadian@Former-Member@Faith-and-Hope@Silenus and everyone else I have forgotten (i am sorry my memory is not good)

Life after hospital???

I really don't know. I was in hospital for 3 weeks and I did hibernate for the first 3 days sleeping most of that time. I had a change of meds which took a while to work out the strength. Then my BP was doing weird things and they changed those meds as well. I was totally exhausted and I don't know if I will ever get better.

I did eventually join in socially and do groups but unfortunately the groups triggered a lot of memories of my childhood abuse,, my mum and how she has treated me, so I used to walk out in tears. I seemed to be crying and sleeping quite a lot. Self harming was on my mind a lot and i was 'looked after' really well by the staff. Often they would pop in my room and just chat but at times all i wanted to do was cry and sleep.

My discharge yesterday was emotional, i didn't want to leave my safe place, my peace and quiet. I tried the night before something terrible and wrote a note to one of the night staff who sat down with me in my room and he told me I don't believe in myself enough that i am strong but i don't see it.

I saw so many people from all walks of life suffering in silence. I came home on the weekends and couldn't even look at the house as it was untidy or not how i would keep it. so after a bit of cleaning i decided no i wanted to go back to 'my safe home'.

Today i had to see my GP and was falling asleep, i told him i am not sure if it's the meds and he said i am still exhausted.

I just feel like crying. Having horrible nightmares at the hospital was so bad that i was too scared to close my eyes, but i had the best male night staff who sat with me and made me a hot milo and gave me some meds to calm down and go off to sleep.

I am so axious about work tomorrow, but i have no money, no sick leave and no annual leave. tried centrelink but they are useless as my hubby earns just over the threshold. so on top of finances and my health i feel i am still not the best.

I wasn't gooing to come on here so soon but i needed to talk to someone as i am home alone. the only good thing that kept me going was knitting.

God i wish i could jusst go away, need to stop these negative thoughts.

Anyway i just wanted to say hi, i am still here and i am sorry if i have forgotten someone's name - i think my exhuastion and meds are affecting my concentration and memory.

I really don't kow how i will cope tomorrow.

i am so scared and anxious.

You were all probably hoping for me to be jumping up and down with glee - if only.

ps. another thing we are signing papers to sell our home this week; that's one good thing i suppose, just the packing is overwhelming.

Re: Life after hospital

Hi @pip@Faith-and-Hope@Decadian@Shaz51@utopia

Re kids: My kids do their own cooking (actually boys do 2 out of 3). They are into their protein meals and shakes. With their rooms, they vac and dust their rooms, they bring all their washing down to the laundry and if they don't it doesn't get washed.

Sometimes the youngest son will put a load of washing on if he is home from unii. My daughter does her washing weekly. She has a basket in her room and will bring it down on a friday night or saturday and wash it all. I haven't washed her clothes for a while. As for ironing, i used to iron everyone's clothes but a few years ago i thought stuff it i am not ironing their clothes for them to put them on the floor in their room to get creased again, so i stopped ironing. So who irons their clothes now - they all do when they need to wear it.

Shoes - yes, we tried the basket and it didn't work. we even had a shoe cupboard. so tonight i am going to put all the shoes into their own rooms.

Re today: hubby and i had a nice afternoon. we drove to a beautiful beach town just over an hour away from home. We had lunch, it then rained but we managed to walk around the town and i managed. It was nice, i even managed to hold his hand while we walked on the pier (but not for long).

This morning: I had a doctors appt. My GP was away last week when all the emotional stuff happened. He wants to monitor my BP weekly and doesn't want me to check it at all. I told him i am feeling woosy, nauseous and have a headache. he said it is most likely the new AD my psych changed.

Pysch session: That was after my doctor's appt. That was so much better than last week when i lost the plot and was so angry with him. We talked about my other therapist stopping seeing me and how i feel. i told him i feel angry still, it takes a long time for the anger to disappear. He asked my opinion as to why my therapist may have said he can't help me anymore. I told him i feel partly to blame because of all the emails i used to send, which he then wouldn't reply, so i would send another to press his buttons and get his attention. My psych said to me - could it be that you have 'bled him dry' and now he can't do anymore for you and it is a big let down for you. I was angry hearing that but i feel like yes i am partly to blame.

It's the wanting approval, wanting advice, needing someone to listen to me without being judgemental.

My psych said he is not blaming me but this is what happens when i get too attached to someone, it ends up pretty bad for me.

He reassured me that this new psychologist is very good, i told him in between crying that i am fearing that i have to trell her everything again about the abuse and my mum and i just can't do that again. he said that on my first visit i should let her know how i get triggered and just tell her a bit but he said i don't need to go into detail because it will traumatise me again. He is happy to talk to her and probably will.

So i left there after crying feeling okay. He wants me to keep taking these new meds and increase next week and then see him the week after. he knows of the side effects but said it should settle down soon.

I've had a pretty productive day. Just got home, putting the washing in the dryer a little and getting dinner organised.

Tomorrow is work, but lucky it is a short week as friday is a holiday. my GP wanted to give me the next two days off but i said no i will go to work and see how i go. It's just the nauseous and woosy feeling that is making me sick.

oh and by the way - my legs, arms and back are so from yesterday's gym session.

think i need to do some stretches later on.

chat again later.

@BlueBay. You sound so positive and happy. Wonderful to hear. It's also great you were able to hold his hand, that's more than I would ever do with my ex, before he became my ex. I'm also pleased you were able to talk to your psych about your feelings of rejection and he listened. It sounds as though today was really good for you and hubby, hope the good feelings persist.

Re: Life after hospital

Thanks @pip

You know I was just thinking this morning as i was driving to my doctor - how one day i can feel okay and then i am not crying but then i feel so sad and emotional the next. It's so different every day.

But right now, this minute i am okay - and that is the main thing 🙂

Re: Life after hospital

@BlueBay When our emotions are in a state of upheaval as yours have been, the least thing can bring on laughter, tears, anger. When you are happy as you are, now, enjoy the euphoric feeling. When you feel like ****, accept that that feeling is probably temporary and 'go with it'. You have been through so much sadness/grief/abuse/torment, working through these feelings has been difficult and exhausting. Your emotions will continue to be up and down while you get used to your new psych, but through it all remember one thing. You are better than yesterday. Tomorrow, you may crash, but you may not. We're always here for the bad times as well as enjoying the good times..

Re: Life after hospital

i don't know what to do - i am feeling very lightheaded, like when you sway on a boat; feel like throwing up and have a headache. I just came back from the chemist where I get my scripts from (don't do my scripts at my work) and the pharmacist said i should have had a 3-5 day washout period from changing meds. But i didn't, my psych dropped the dosage and then added both together for 4 days, now today i am just taking the new one. and then next week he is upping the dose again.

i feel that the past 2 months i have changed meds twice, up the strength, drop the strength, up down, no change completely to new one.

no wonder i feel so crap. i hate feeling lightheaded. that is why last time in july i was in hospital for the change of meds.

Re: Life after hospital

@BlueBay. What a productive day you had. Lunch with hubby and a walk around a beach town. Intimacy doesn't need to be physical. Itcan just mean bbeing present with another person. And I think that having a few hours together today will be great for you both.
Well done on listening to your psychiatrist today. Not always easy to hear - but a move forward in recognising partial 'blame' (I don't like that word-but my brain blank tonight).
Would be great that your psych will talk to your new psychologist.
And I'm glad you are going to work tomorrow - even if not feeling the best - it can help fill in your day. & you can focus on what you do best at work & forget everything else.
I'd say it has been a really good day for you.

Hi @utopia

hope you are feeling better now.

Yeah i think we need to do more of these drives around and stop at different places.

If i don't initatie where to go he will not do anything. So this sunday i will pick somewhere else to go.

I also want to book a camp site for 4 days at a resort about 3 hours away from home. We have been there many times and once in a tent. It was a differernt experience in a tent, but really relaxing. so i will book a weekend in October/November and tell him to take two days off work. It's only $40 a night so it won't cost too much. And i really think that by having mini weekends away will be good for both of us.

We were talking yesterday about a driving holiday next year. We are going to start saving for that now and we will drive up north to Queensland.

I am still feeling very lightheaded today like a drunk and have a headache. hoping these symptoms will subside soon as the new meds start to work.

Yeah work today, even though i wanted to stay home cause today is a beautiful day I need to go back to earn some money!!! And it's only today and tomorrow as friday is a public holiday.

i hope you have a nice day today, any plans?

take care xxx

Re: Life after hospital

Hi @BlueBay

This sounds better - the whole deal - you have bad days and they are disastrous - and good days - which are great - you're normal - and this is great to hear

I am so glad you are going away for a few days with your husband - yes - quality time is a kind of intimacy - and yes - you do have to take the initiative - but thems the rules for you I think -

And saving up for a driving trip - ah - that will make work easier when some of what you earn is for you - for pleasure - and not just battling to pay the bills

About your medication - I get it - I feel crappy with mine right now and it is different medication - or maybe I would be worse without some of it - I am taking my regular pain medication - and antibiotics, anti-histamines, stuff to dry up my sinuses and ointment for the sores in my nose and I have gone through the best part of two boxes of tissues and my head is still floating around. Everything except the anti-histamines is prescribed by my doctor and he told me to take a different antihistamine - and a nasal spray as well as tablets - and I feel as if I am rattling like a packet of tictacs

But your medication is different I know - still you have had many changes and this is tough on your body - I hope you feel better soon - it can be a race to see which one of us wins over the giddy head symptoms

Your kids do sound like really great young people - I never had adult children living at home and I left home early too - when I got married - so experience of a house full of young people is not really in my memory banks -

I know you are emotionally fragile - I understand that - and things are going to hit you harder - but yes - I do believe in time you will over-come it - you will do better with a different psychologist I am sure
