Burn out

Burn out

Good afternoon,

I am so happy to be here with people who can understand. I have had anxiety disorder and depression for 29 years and the first I was aware that something was wrong was the day of my first panic attack which led to Agorophobia within two weeks. I was working at the time and was unable to work for 18 months. I managed to return to a new job and worked for many years however I have never been able to live a normal life. I am on medication and have regular therapy, exercise regularly and try to eat a balanced healthy diet. Sixteen months ago I had a breakdown due to work pressures, ended up in hospital for a month and have not been able to work since. I have just been diagnosed with Burn out and was told that I may never get any better and would have to manage my mental illness. I am really struggling and feel completely worthless, most days I don't want to live, I feel as though I am just existing. I live alone and my adult daughters live a long distance from me. I would greatly appreciate any knowledge or assistance you can offer.

Thank you

Re: Burn out

Hey @sadpisces You got the tag thing sorted 👍

It is easy to be kind when you can see yourself in someone who is really struggling Hon. It is an awful place to be and even though you are doing everything right for yourself you cannot see that light in the distance - that is what we are here for - to hold that light for you as you work your way through the darkness

@Zoe7 thank you, I hope I can find the light

Re: Burn out

It is definitely one baby step at a time @sadpisces There is no rush in these things but you will have support here. It is so hard when you cannot see that way forward and I will not presume by any means that that will come quickly or at all but I can only speak from experience in that I was right where you are and honestly did not want to live - now I am back at work and that has been massive for me after a very long road. I remember reading in your initial post and a subsequent one from @Bezak482 that you have been told you 'may' not be able to return to work - so there is hope there - it is not a definitive No and with respect to those professionals - no-one can foresee the future and what you are doing to help yourself. That shows me you have fight, courage and strength within - so draw on that as much as you can Hon - and reach out here when you need to chat, discuss things or are just having a bad day.

Re: Burn out

Hey there @sadpisces

I've been in the same position and just a quick reply focussing on the practical side : have you put in a claim for a Disability Support Pension? Income support (jobseeker payment). Centrelink have social workers available with whom you can discuss your circumstances.

One thing I deeply regretted doing, when I couldn't work for a few years, was running down my capital and being "self-unemployed" (didn't claim Newstart) because I didn't want to be micro-case managed by someone who was still wearing nappies when I started working.

Can I get an "OK boomer" from the audience....... Ta.

I recently turned 59, also a pisces and I totally reject the stigmatizing stereotrope of the sad drunk substance abusing sponge pisces .... but that's another thread.

I expect your primary physician has done tests to check your thyroid function and TSH, that everything is tickety-boo there. I am sorry to hear that you received a rather blunt prophecy about your future - person who told you that must have been a tactless sagittarius aquarius - they could have sugar-coated it a little and not stomped on your hope. You have a new normal. Like when a tadpole grows legs and turns into a froggy (so over the caterpiller-butterfly metaphor)

When you do return to paid employment will it be the same workplace/industry/position that brought you to burn-out or something different?

Edited.

Re: Burn out

I say this with affection and a giggle @Jo-anneJoy - as you can see by my avatar - I am a butterfly ...and a sagittarian LOL so your post did make me giggle in those two parts....

but you are very practical in your response here to @Jo-anneJoy - all really great points (except the butterfly and sagittarius references) 👍

Re: Burn out

@Zoe7 but you gotta admit the tadpole-frog metamorphosis is pretty good because there's

no caterpillar-oozy stage.

Sun signs of Pisces and Sagittarius are both ruled by Jupiter - I like to tease saggies because they help me to keep lifting my game.

Re: Burn out

I did like the tadpole - frog analogy ...and in a lot of respects it is maybe much closer a metamorphosis that the caterpillar - butterfly as there are more stages @Jo-anneJoy ...and there is no caterpillar-oozy stage 👍

Us Saggies are sensitive types lol ...and being ruled by Jupiter - I wonder what @Jupiter thinks of that
