Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Well done @NatureLover .

I haven't done anything productive yet. I've checked in with a family member, checked re the gp recall and wrestled with my phone. My calls to the gp weren't going through; and I spent ages trying to get the BOM weather app to work.

I'm so glad you're having a good day.

Hope your afternoon was as good as your morning @NatureLover .

I sorted some of my fabric stash as I can't really see to sew. It made very little difference to the size of the mounds in the corner of my livingroom but it's enough for a bus trip to Salvos and additions to my cupboard shelf of cleaning rags. I'll have to persevere.

Well done on sorting your fabric out, @Dimity ! That will be satisfying, taking it to the Salvos and getting it out of your house.

Do you have an appt for the GP recall?

In the afternoon I sat outside with a book. So my long kitchen bench is still full.

Today is a work day, plus I'm washing all the cloth grocery bags and hanging them out. The washing machine is going now.

I'm loving this beautiful weather, are you? Although it means more watering.

Good luck with your day 🙂

Yes the weather is nice @NatureLover , it takes me a.few days to acclimatise each year. Well done on working through unpacking and washing the bags.

I'll wait for my next results to come through before I book the appt. I plan to get retested tomorrow.

I'm in a muddle. I'll have to work out a better way of keeping track of my admin. And the interminable clutter is depressing. I haven't done my quota today... I guess there's still time to do a little.

My potplants are needing daily water. I've been neglecting the garden, putting more effort into my exercise program. Hopefully I'll get back on track soon.

Have a good day tomorrow - hope you can work out your kitchen storage. My pantry is overfull too, I've been impulse buying. I don't usually.

That's very unusual for you, the impulse buying, @Dimity .

I hope you can sort out the muddle of your admin. Well done on your exercise programme.

I've been awake since 4am. Had breakfast early, and have been dozing for the last 2 hours. Got to get up and go out for errands now. We have a neighbours dinner on the shared lawn tonight.

I'm watering every second day, apart from 3 pots which are daily.

Good luck with your retesting today.

Hi @NatureLover

I had a bad night too.

Was interested to read news items on "circadian depression". Sounds familiar.

My muddle continues. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long for my test results.

I feel very insecure... too much bad news on every front, and several important imminent elections. I really to get top of things here at home. I've looked at support worker profiles but haven't reached out or advertised.

Sorry to hear about your bad night. And your feelings of insecurity 😥🫂

I've never heard of circadian depression! But it sounds like what I have. Thank you for telling me about it.

Do your test results go to the doctor or to you?

Can you afford both the psychologist and a support worker? Oh dear, money really does make a huge difference to our wellbeing 😥

Today I have a medication review at the chemist, ordered by my new GP. Then after that a lunch.

Good luck with your day...

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Sometimes people get medication reviews done at home, it's a great service I've heard. @NatureLover .

If I get a support worker it would come from savings I guess. I'm nervous of starting again with someone but I'm not coping. Then again I doubt they could resolve my very worrying situation. I kept waking last night with anxiety, but usually once I fall asleep I sleep through.

My results will go to the gp clinic but I'm not sure if they'll recall me as i didn't action last weekend's recall. My usual gp seems to have handballed me to a registrar too. I guess I'll muddle through but don't want to make a nuisance of myself. I've given up asking for the free pneumonia vaccine (they suggested it in the first place, and I've had a government letter chivvying me to get one).

3 people who are important to me are ill at present so my problems don't really count. I guess I'm grumpy I'm not on top of things, and that I can't really help when I don't drive.

Another warm day tomorrow before rain. Enjoy your work day.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Of course your problems count! Your problems are valid, they aren't negated by other people's problems.

I was glad to hear you have savings that could pay for a suport worker.

That's odd your clinic won't pursue the pneumonia vaccine with you.

I would rather not have anyone in my house (for a medication review). In any case, it went well at the chemist, and I could shower once home.

i've resumed my early morning walks - it's beautiful out there this morning. Will also walk to the bakery in about half an hour, before work.

i hope you feel a bit brighter today 🤞

@Dimity

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

So glad you're back to your early walks @NatureLover , it's been a while. I'm still trying to walk but have been patchy with other prescribed exercises. Too tired and unwell.

Not sure why I've had so much miscommunication lately over health-related appointments. If I were more unwell and unable to self-advocate I'd be in a pickle. I'd just miss out. More confusion today. I might be able to clarify a couple of things Monday. I got one invoice cancelled today after querying why it wasn't bulkbilled - there'd been a transcription error.

Someone I know had an at-home medication review and they went though otc medications as well as the prescribed ones. They foubd it helpful.

Hope you have a good and non-lonely weekend. You didn't mention if you'd caught up with your neighbour about using your yard. Me, hopefully my long grumpiness will subside.
