Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

I've been trying to do a gratitude practice called "rose rose thorn bud" . There are things I'm thankful for, there are upsetting things, but I'm having trouble looking forwards to pleasurable things (the buds). At one stage tyme offered to help me with goal setting. And it's something I used to enjoy in this thread, it was very helpful.

A simple goal for tomorrow is to sweep my fallen native frangipani flowers. Another is to ring someone I rarely speak to, who's ill.

Monday I'll talk to my psychiatrist - but apparently he wanted to see me in person, which surprised me. And I'll also speak to my gp. I guess I should be feeling hopeful about those sessions.

I'd enjoy gardening... and starting a new book...

Best wishes @NatureLover and thankyou for inspiring me

I'm surprised but pleased that I've inspired you, @Dimity ! How did I do that?

You sounded positive yesterday 🙂

Did you sweep your fallen frangipani flowers? There would have been a lot of them, going by the size of your tree.

More in response to the other page!

Sorry you've been so tired and unwell, @Dimity . Are you still having those symptoms?

I'm glad you managed to get an invoice cancelled - well done.

Yes, my medication review covered vitamins and supplements as well. I did find it helpful.

I haven't been brave enough to talk to my neighbour yet 😣

My date today cancelled at the last minute, not long before I was going to leave home to drive there. I was disappointed, but we've been talking today and have talked it through. I'm still very interested in her, but she wants to chat more before meeting.

I suspect you may not get in a walk today, with all this rain?

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

I just got back from a twilight walk around the block @NatureLover .

There's a squelchy carpet of frangipani flowers. I raked some, getting several bucketsful, but the rain overtook me.

I admire your deciding what you want to do then taking the initiative and doing it with your job, your house and your new relationship. I do hope you won't be disappointed - your date sounds either troubled by anxiety or else an unreliable person. Fingers crossed talking it through resolves it one way or another. Building trust isn't easy (at least not for me).

I sorted some more fabric. There are more unfinished projects than I'd expected. I think I'll have to try to thread the sewing machine and finish some.

The night before last I didnt sleep until after 5am, a red flag. I caught up last night but will be careful. Thecfamily problems continue.

Hi @Dimity , that's good you were able to get in a walk amongst the showers.

On your thread, you said you "had to reconnect with siblings as your safety and wellbeing are at stake". This worried me, but the thread has moved on, so I'm raising it here. Are you OK? I'm quite worried.

Thanks for your kind words. I feel powerless about the house (insecure month-to-month rental situation). Always the fear of homelessness alarms me. Terrifies me, actually.

I don't think my date is an unreliable person. She is troubled by anxiety, which is something I can deal with if the person is honest. I did actually join a fourth dating app yesterday, but there's no interest in me there either.

That's not at all good that you were unable to sleep till after 5am. Is that a red flag for your MH? How did you sleep last night?

Good luck threading your sewing machine. It's good you've sorted some more fabric.

Today I have nothing on. I'm still in bed as I woke up late. Don't know what I will do yet today.

I think you see your psychiatrist in person today, plus are sorting out two medical appts? Good luck 🤞

Hi @NatureLover I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with housing insecurity. So valid to be terrified, safe and stable housing is a core need and I can imagine how heavily it would be weighing on your mind day-to-day. I hope you have some support around you, someone to talk to or turn to - either friends or family or professional supports, like a housing service or local community centre. No one deserves to face homelessness alone <3

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

@NatureLover hugs. I know you said your place is perfect for you and you don't want to move elsewhere unless/until you have to... but there's no harm in keeping an eye on local listings if you like the location.

Good luck with your dating apps... the slow progress must be a bit disappointing, but I hope things work out for you.

I don't know how much longer I can keep going unless something changes. And I know the change will have to come from me. The gp today said she didn't believe my test results so would discount them and the psychiatrist wasn't helpful when I asked about getting help for my family member. I'm safe but worn out.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

What do you think about the GP saying that, @Dimity ? Do you feel dismissed?

I'm glad you're safe.

When you say the change will have to come from you, do you mean hiring a support worker?

Thanks re the dating apps. A work day today, but will walk to the bakery for rolls before work. (The local supermarket rolls have lard in them, and I don't want to spend petrol driving to the next town just for rolls.)

Hope your day goes OK.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Thank you so much, @Jynx , I really appreciate it. Yes, I have friends to talk to plus a good psychologist and an adequate psychiatrist. There is also a local housing advocacy service in the next big town if I need.
