Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Hi @Dimity , you didn't mention your social outing; did it go OK?

You mentioned you were a bit upset, so I hope it wasn't due to your outing.

I also don't understand what happened on your thread. But that's OK, I don't need to. Just hoe you're OK.

I didn't think that I could possibly add the insurance after the fact. Thanks.

I haven't given up on my daily tasks or schedule yet. I still think it's a good thing to aim for.

This morning I want to go out early and return the cans and bottles for the first time. I hope I can figure out how to do it. I want to go early as I'm driving the hire car.

I hope you feel less upset today 🤞

I'm glad you haven"t given up on your aspirations re a schedule @NatureLover .

Thanks for letting me show up day after day. I think I put my foot in it sharing Too Much Information in different ways with my friend and online. Selfish of me.

And family problems have cropped up again. I offer help which is spurned then I'm guilt tripped for not doing anything. Meanwhile I'm worrying every day, and still in a financial bind.

I've started clearing the large fallen branch myself as the other owners haven't got back to me to approve the gardener doing it. The fence has fallen again too.

I'm trying to push on with decluttering but it's hard to do it consistently.

Onwards and upwards.

I don't think it's selfish to share infirmation, @Dimity . Only if you don't let the other person talk. Which I can't imagine you doing.

I like you showing up day after day!

I worry that you're helping your family financially while in a financial bind yourself. Would your family help you financially if you needed it? Not by the sounds of it.

Is it your fence that has fallen?

I've decided that my sleep schedule is too extreme for a dating partner. I get depressed after dark, so like to cut my evenings short. For the last couple of years I've gone to sleep at 8pm and set my alarm for 5.45am. It suits me. But I've decided to push it back to 9pm-6am. This will really throw me. And will still be way too early if I find a date who's a night owl. But I am going to start tonight.

I couldn't start the hire car yesterday, so couldn't go out for errands. Am going to try again today after googling the warning lights. Quite worried about it. After all, I need to get to the hire car place to return the car eventually.

I hope you feel up to decluttering today, if that's your plan.

Oh dear. Hope you got the car working @NatureLover .

My sleep cycle is ridiculous. On a bad night I don't wind down for hours. I envy your (former) regular hours. Good luck resetting your body clock.

It's a common fence but impacts access to my carport. I got another section of fence repaired at my own expense.

This batch of decluttering is very challenging.

Hope you have a good day tomorrow...

Hi @Dimity

Yes, thankfully I was able to get the hire car working and go out for errands yesterday.

I didn't get to sleep till after 10 last night and woke up at 7.45. So I'm already thrown all out of whack.

I know the feeling of not being able to wind down at night - it's awful. You have my sympathy.

I'm sorry to hear the fallen fence impedes access to your carport. I hope the residents' association will agree to fix it.

It's a work day today and I'm still in bed after chatting to people this morning. It's 8.45 and I have to start work soon! Oh dear.

I'm thinking of you as you work through the extra challenging decluttering. 🫂

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

I hope the day worked out ok @NatureLover . It will probably take several days to get used to your new hours.

I'm at a loss. I can't seem to get a handle on this decluttering. It might turn into a study project. But I want to fix the mess first.

Family stuff is really getting me down again. And nothing really came from my 2 social outings.

What would I like to do? I don't know.

I tried to make a physiotherapy appt today but their books are closed and they don't have a waitlist.

Hi @Dimity

It will take many weeks I think to adjust to my new sleep hours.

What did you hope would come from your 2 social outings? Do you mean like a plan for more outings?

Sorry to hear about the physiotherapy clinic.

What do you mean a study project?

I've got a coffee catch up today, driving the scary hire car. I might ring up the hire car company and ask if I can add the extra insurance after the fact, or otherwise I will be a nervous wreck by the end of the 21 days!

I think rain is coming this afternoon and will settle in for days.

I hope you can get some encouragement soon 🤞

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

You're always supportive and encouraging @NatureLover , thankyou.

I'm not sure "after the fact" is the best way to describe it, you'll need to be insured before any accident!

I guess I'd hoped for some sense that the outings were welcome and that more would be possible, but that wasn't clear to me.

I have a massive amount of paperwork related to old research interests and some of it is still of interest. But when I created it I was spinning out mh-wise at times, and also some of it is now superseded. So it's a mixed bag. I'd also spent a fortune on books. So in picking up the courage to look at it all, I'm wondering whether to engage with the ideas again. It would be a big project, and there'd be a lot of work in sorting through it all. Actually I've already invested a lot of time and energy in it at various times... it was chaotic after I'd abandoned my studies.

I'm deeply saddened by what's happening familywise, although it's really no different to usual. I don't know how to deal with it, maybe I'm not putting enough time and money into my own therapy (that the psychologist had assured me would help empower me to face the challenges and make a difference). I can't really talk about it here, it's too complicated and there's my family's privacy to consider. And I don't like triggering others.

Ì hope you're enjoying interacting with the people and your planned date through the dating site. I'll understand if you have less time and interest here. It's been wonderful sharing with you.

Of course I won't have less time and interest here! I enjoy catching up with you every day @Dimity

And only one person is interested in chatting with me on the dating sites (I joined a second one), and I'm having a date with her this weekend.

More later - I woke up shockingly late and have a MHCP at the GP very shortly.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi again @Dimity , thank you for your kind words of appreciation. ❤️

You're right, I need to ring about the hire car insurance today. I only meant, trying to get the insurance after already hiring the car.

I wonder if it's a lack of capacity on the part of your 2 social interactions recently, not a reflection on you. Some people are just not affirming type people, sadly.

Thanks for explaining about your big study projects. Good luck deciding whether to pursue them.

I'm sorry that your family has always given you such grief, both as a child and an adult. 😥

My new GP does MHCPs a little differently it appears, but we got it done. She is slowly learning about my complex MH and my complex overall health. I've seen her 3 times so far. I got in just before she closed her books to new patients.

Nothing on for the rest of the day, so I should make good use of it. I have an early appt with the ophthalmologist tomorrow, before work, so if I don't post tomorrow morning, it means I've woken up late again. My new sleep schedule has really thrown me.

Wishing you a successful day today.
