Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

I understand not knowing how or where to start again, @Dimity . Good luck with hitting on some way to start.

Can you try limiting it to 5 mins to start somewhere? Is that something that works for you?

Well done on being someone your reclusive neighbour wants to have a long chat with.

I have coffee with a friend this morning. Plus chemist and supermarket. I feel my scripts are difficult to work out since I got out of whack with them.

I hope you can get some clarity on whether to join the knitting groups.

With so many meds it must be hard @NatureLover . Good luck grouping them. My med replacement frequencies have drifted apart too, which is a nuisance.

I spent an hour cleaning the kitchen. (Low hanging fruit.) I'll have to do something about the livingroom before the home help arrives.

I restacked stuff back in the room it came from. Defeated. But I'll need to have it out again to work on it.

Oh, which home help is coming today? @Dimity

I think it's fine to put things back in the spare room for now. But I hear that it makes you feel defeated. 🫂

And well done for spending an hour on the kitchen.

I ended up running late for coffee yesterday so just grabbed the most important script to refill (my antidepressant). So I need to work out other scripts that have come due and get them today. Also have the new GP for diabetes blood test results and a referral to the ophthalmologist.

I accidentally left a laundry wash in the machine overnight. Distracted by the dating app. Need to rewash it this morning.

Good luck today with the home help 🤞

You must be finding the app fun. Hope it works out without too many disappointments.

The home help stayed for a coffee today.

I managed to get some shredding done this evening. First progress for over a week. Realising again how huge the job is.

My native frangipani is flowering earlier every year...

Enjoy your work day tomorrow @NatureLover . I hope you can sort out all your prescription filling.

Your home help must've gone OK, if she stayed for a coffee? @Dimity I hope she wasn't judgemental.

Well done on the shredding 🙂

Could I see a photo of your frangipani? I'm jealous, frangipani is beautiful.

I'm awake in the night (2.20am, been awake for over 90 minutes so far).

Yes, I'm enjoying the dating app so far thanks. Have a tentative date lined up for 8 days away, with the only person who's shown any interest so far.

I sorted out this month's meds but of course not all of them are due now, now that they're out of sync.

I actually had a car accident yesterday on the way to the chemist. Everyone is OK, just shaken, and both cars drove away OK. It was my fault - I didn't see the other car at all when I was turning right at an intersection. This has never happened before and is alarming. How could I have not seen them? I've made a claim on my insurance (for them and me) and have a hire car for now. The excess for my claim is $900!

I will be glad to have a few quiet days at home now. Thanks for always remembering my work days.

I hope you feel you have "started again" (with the shredding) and so it will be easier to continue tomorrow.

I didn't get back to sleep. Have given up and am having breakfast at 6.10. I think I was too wound up about the car accident and my prospective upcoming date. @Dimity

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Oh no @NatureLover the accident must have been a shock. And it's also hit your finances. I'm glad noone was hurt.

I trust you're connecting well with your date... meeting them in person will be a big step.

I had a bad night too. Couldn't wind down. After broken sleep I woke with a bad dream that's troubled me.

Still trying to get back on track with exercise and decluttering. Made plans to go out tomorrow with a friend. Doubting it will all work out.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

That's exciting you're going out with a friend today. I hope it goes better than you expect 🤞

I read about your disturbing dream on your thread 😣

Yes, the car accident was a shock. The only other accident I've ever had was when a man backed into me in a supermarket car park (his fault). So I've been a bit shaken, and shocked by my culpability.

i am looking forward to my date, yes. The only thing is it's half an hour drive away, and I'm a bit scared to drive the hire car! This is because I didn't take out the extra insurance (3 types of extra insurance). That was foolish of me, but I'd just paid the $900 excess and was really feeling the pinch.

I want to catch up on some volunteer work today, and some laundry. Not sure what else.

i hope the rain doesn't dampen your social catch-up today.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

I can understand your hesitation re the insurance @NatureLover . It may be possible to get back to the car hire company if you change your mind.

Hope you enjoyed the day. I'm unsure about mine, and a bit upset.

Sunday tomorrow. I used to be able to pause and reflect on the week past and the coming week but the days are blurring together.

It's a pity your new weekly schedule didn't work out. I need to give some thought to mine.
