Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

I trust your new gp is supportive @NatureLover . It's good you've now got the mhcp for your psychologist, and that they can cope with the timing. I've had 2 people derail plans because they were due midyear not at the beginning of January, so I don't have one at present so I can recalibrate.

Hope the eyetests aren't too stressful.

I saw the dietician today. We don't click. I don't like being ordered to eat large amounts of meat and use ultraprocessed powders and particular brandname foods full of chemical additives. I'm semivegetarian and prefer wholefoods. So I'm not sure what to do. I might delve into my books for recipe ideas.

Hi @Dimity , I've woken up early, thankfully.

I'm shocked at what your dietician wants. It doesn't sound healthy at all! Your diet sounds way healthier!

I'm not sure I understand what you meant about 2 people derailing plans.

I always find the eye tests stressful, as my eyes are very sensitive. The ophthalmologist can't even do all his tests on me, as my eyes can't cope with them.

Plus I'll be driving the uninsured hire car in this heavy rain. I rang up the hire car place yesterday, and I can't add the extra insurance to an already existing rental. 😣

You haven't mentioned your exercise group for a while. Are you still going?

Hope your day goes OK.

That's worrying re the insurance @NatureLover . Do you expect the repairs to your car to take long?

I trust your eyes are ok. Best to keep checking with diabetes.

Yes I'm still going to the fortnightly exercise group, plus exercising every second day and walking every day. I haven't been able to face going back to the exercise physiologist yet but really should, I'm well overdue for review.

Very tired.

Hi @Dimity , the panelbeaters are still waiting for car parts, apparently.

I was able to get to and from the ophthalmologist safely yesterday. My eyes are fine apparently.

My date today has been postponed due to a family emergency of my date.

I'm glad you're still able to go to your social exercise group.

Sorry you're so tired. It's probably mental exhaustion as well? Good luck today...

Sorry to hear your date's postponed @NatureLover ... hopefully it all works out for you both.

Mental exhaustion ... very possibly.

@NatureLover you asked to see my native frangipani tree... sorry, but it won't load. I've tried cropping the picture but it didn't work.

Hi @Dimity

I hope it works out with my date too.

Thanks for trying to load the pictire of your frangipani tree. I don't really know anything about them, but I had assumed they were warm weather / tropical trees. I'm surprised they grow in Melbourne.

You battle so much every day that I'm not surprised if you have mental as well as physical exhaustion.

I was depressed yesterday. Going to try to go out for errands this morning, including recycling the bottles and cans again for the first time. I hope the machine is working today.

Good luck with your day.

Hope you worked out the container refund machine @NatureLover .

I'm quite depressed too and grieving. Grieving a death in April I've only just found out about. And grieving so many other things. You're right, I'm exhausted.

You must be concerned for your new friend. Hopefully you can meet soon.

Hi @Dimity , I'm sorry to hear about the death in April. No wonder you're grieving so many things 🫂

No wonder you're exhausted and depressed. Sending care ❤️

My new friend's family emergency is over, thank goodness. We've rearranged our date for the 17th.

I decided not to take the bottles and cans until I get my own car back. If I have to slam on the brakes suddenly, the cans could go flying and spill beer in the hire car.

Is it your exercise class today? I hope it goes well, if so.

Sounds a longish wait until you can meet in person @NatureLover .

No, exercise group was last week and next week. Today I had psychologist, poor thing. I'm not an easy patient.

Hope you enjoyed your work day. I'm ashamed I'm getting very little done.
