Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

That's a great aim, @Dimity . I can understand that 10 papers a day doesn't feel like you're making much progress. The pile must still look big. But it is progress.

I've done 2 hours of gentle tidying. Putting rubbish out, picking stuff off the floor, putting away stuff in some bags, disinfecting library books so I can put them on my special library book shelf, etc. I feel pleased but am still yet to tackle the long kitchen bench and finish the bags on the floor. I'm going to have a break now for lunch.

Gentle tidying sounds super @NatureLover . I've done nothing yet, still feeling out of sorts, and somewhat rattled after my appt. I'll make some chamomile tea and lunch, then try for gentle tidying myself.

I've done some gentle tidying and culled some papers. I browse more than I cull. I did only some of my exercises and will finish the set later. I'll walk a bit, probably less than usual.

Hope your bread turned out well @NatureLover .

I'm sorry your appt was upsetting 😢

Also that you're still feeling unwell.

I'm glad you felt up to a bit of gentle tidying.

I've stopped for today, my day generally being over at 4pm. But I'm pleased with what I got done - it's a start.

Good luck if you continue on after your walk. No pressure though.

@Dimity

I'm glad you.achieved something today @NatureLover - and bread as well!

I'm ashamed to say I achieved no more than my quanta. In my defence I'll add it's the 6th day in a row I've got there. And I got into the garden briefly, exercised and walked, but am struggling to do it. I doubt I would have done much at all if you hadn't challenged me.

I think my usual home help is coming back, early Thursday morning. I'm dreading it. I've moved things around but it's had little impact overall, so she'll see little change. I think it's been 2 months or more since she was here.

Good luck with your start to your working week.

Hi @Dimity , I want to say, Well done on achieving your quanta, plus garden, walk and exercising. This is great work when you were feeling unwell and rattled. Plus 6 days in a row as well. 👏

I'm not looking forward to your usual home help coming back either. To my mind she's way out of line. And I also didn't realise she came early in the morning, which doesn't suit you. 😣 I'll be sending wishes she's not judgmental, by some miracle 🤞

My breadmaking is easy as the machine does it. My floor (the carpet) looks nice and clean this morning. There are still a few bags on the kitchen floor. I've woken up late.

Good luck with your day today.

She normally comes midday @NatureLover . i normally refuse early sessions and feel they might have been trying to wedge me this time. I'm tired of the uncertainty over shifts the last two or three months.

Well done on clearing most of the floor.

I'm finding the papers an effort but probably worthwhile. It's pointless wishing things were different, and hopeless thinking things can change.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

I don't think it's hopeless that things can change, @Dimity . You said two things recently: that you no longer bring things home, and that you are in a much better place than years ago. Plus I know you regularly move things out of the house and get rid of them to the opp shop.

I'm sure your daily perseverence is paying off.

You did sound down last night though - are you OK? Sending hugs 🫂

Thanks for your kind words. I've woken up early today as I realised I have to be at a friend's house at 9am to pick something up that she ordered for me. I need to have a full shower and hairwash before that. Then a coffee with another friend mid morning. I had nightmares all night, which means I was dehydrated and need to drink more water.

No wonder you're tired of all the uncertainty with your home help situation. I hope it goes well tomorrow morning, and good luck with waking up early.

Hi again @Dimity , I struggled going out this morning after 5 days at home. But I made it, plus achieved 5 errands on top of my commitments! It was actually nice to be out and about once I got going. The sun was out.

Of course, that means I'm now exhausted and won't achieve anything other than laundry this afternoon.

How are you feeling today, after feeling unwell yesterday?

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Thar's amazing @NatureLover well done.

I guess it's particularly important to stay hydrated being diabetic. Nightmares are horrible.

Thanks for your encouragement. Yes I do try to persevere and know the work I've put in, but rearranging cupboards and shelves and culling papers as I've done lately isn't impacting the boxes or surfaces. But it's helping me reintegrate myself. I'm looking forward to seeing my psychologist again.

I'm also troubled by family doings. And am still feeling unwell, but reluctant to seek help. I think it's heart, but I've had tests over the years and been told it's mild.
