Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

I'd lose track of what was in the bags. I probably buy the equivalent of 2 cloth

bags at a time. I have to unpack my jeep for the fridge. I carry cloth bags in my handbag for when I don't have the jeep but I'm forbidden to lift more than 10kg.

Sounds like a big effort yesterday... perhaps psychological not just physical @NatureLover .

Wouldn't it be hard to estimate 10kg in groceries, @Dimity ?

I remember most things in the bags, but not all.

Yes, it's a big psychological effort to go to places that are "germy" in my head. Especially 3 in one day.

A busy workday yesterday. Now I have 3 days at home, with just house cleaning and tidying to do. A recipe for depression, so I hope I can avoid that.

I couldn't sleep last night, so woke up late and am still in bed (nearly 10am).

What are your plans for this weekend?

I guess I struggle so much with a heavy basket of shopping I limit myself @NatureLover. I probably shop 2-3 times a week. When I was recovering from surgery I got expensive home deliveries.

Today I visited a market at a place I've had nightmares about (always alone and lost). I was tempted but didn't buy. I napped afterwards, it had taken a lot out of me.

Did you get anywhere with your bags or chores today? I've sort of hit a wall with decluttering but am still trying to cull some papers every day. I moved more craft stuff into the livingroom but it's confronting and I need to face it. Hard to believe I'd given away so many unused craft supplies to the opshop.

Hope you can navigate your weekend depression. Perhaps it's good it's so clearly linked to your work cycle.

That makes sense, re your shopping, @Dimity .

Amazing that you went to that place, and also amazing that you didn't buy anything! Well done.

Well done also for persevering with your difficult papers.

I achieved nothing yesterday, not even a laundry wash. Bit depressed. Hopefully I can catch up today.

Yes depression can hold us back @NatureLover, it makes things difficult. I'm getting very little done but try to do my quanta each day as a minimum. I tell myself it adds up but it often feels futile.

What's your "quanta", @Dimity ?

I did a bit better yesterday, but not much. At least I did laundry.

Am not sure what to do today. I need to do shopping, but don't want to spend any money.

I'm breadmaking at the moment, in my cheap breadmaker I got years ago. Once a year I get obsessed with it for a few weeks.

I hope both our moods brighten today.

It's taken me a few hours to get going this morning, but I wonder if you'd like to clean / tidy / declutter with me today? @Dimity

Hello @NatureLover Breadmaking sounds good! I'd love to have the aroma of baking bread and a nice fresh loaf.

I can try to get into some housework but will need to hope for a boost when I get started. I don't feel very well. I'll have a telehealth appt with my psychiatrist shortly but it's not just psychological.

Sorry to hear you're struggling financially. It's not easy.

OK, will hope for a boost for you when you start decluttering today, @Dimity .

Also sending wishes that you feel a bit better, and that your psychiatrist appt goes well. 🤞

Thanks re money and bread.

Sorry I didn't answer your question about quanta @NatureLover . At present I'm aiming for 1 hour housework and 10 culled papers a day.
