Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

You've done so well, @Dimity ! You've achieved a lot. 👏

Sorry you're tired, sore, triggered and overwhelmed. 😥

Will you sleep better if you're tired and sore? I hope so, at least... 🤞

Maybe @NatureLover . I hope I don't oversleep as I have exercise group tomorrow morning.

I ended up doing 4 hours around the house plus the exercises and litterpicking so thanks for the challenge.

Well done! A very successful day for you @Dimity 👏

Good luck with your exercise class this morning. I've got a nice work day at home.

A nice work day sounds good @NatureLover .

And maybe you had seconds of your pasta dish? I enjoy pasta.

I think I need to follow your example and try (again) to set up daily routines. I know it's hard in the early stages. But I think success lies in keeping on trying, not in perfect adherence to the schedule.

Hi @Dimity , yes, you are the best at persevering of anyone I know.

My daily routines have fled out the window. I'll have to try again this morning. Then I have lunch with a friend.

The friend may need to come in to use my toilet, so I had better clean and tidy this morning.

I did have seconds of the pasta dish, but didn't enjoy it. Cooking usually goes that way for me, even if the dish is successful the first time round - and it usually isn't.

How was your exercise class yesterday morning?

Commiserations @NatureLover my cooking is often disappointing too.

The group was okay thanks, it stretches me physically and challenges me emotionally as well (it's stressful but I probably need to extend myself).

Not a good day today, a few problems around getting my ct scan but it's done now. And my decluttering is upsetting. Old letters remind me how distressing things have been with my family. I'd never understood why.

Being more social might be an incentive for you to keep on top of clutter? I've been trying to bear in mind the fortnightly home help visits but my efforts haven't been good enough.

I'm glad your exercise group was OK despite being stressful.

Well done on getting your CT scan done despite problems.

Luckily my friend didn't need to come inside yesterday. Yes, it woukd help me to clean up.

I wouldn't say your efforts haven't been good enough, rather that the home help shouldn't be commenting and judging.

I'm dreading today and want to go back to sleep. A routine mammogram, chemist, diabetes blood tests, library and supermarket. I suspect I'll have to curtail some things as it's too much.

I hope today is a better day for you.

@Dimity

Hi again @Dimity , I re-read your post and saw that it looks like you now understand (from reading the old letters) why things were so distressing in your family?

I went out and did my 5 errands. Phew. I wanted to do all the "germy" ones in one day: chemist, blood tests and mammogram. The chemist didn't have all my meds though, so I do have to go back early next week.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

I'm very impressed you managed to get everything done @NatureLover .

The letters are worrying. I hadn't known or had forgotten how much financial and legal manoeuvering was going on while I was shut out and ostracised and abused. And i was falsely accused of things. I'm able to filter the letters, and shred some, but others are still too hard to come to terms with. I'm using the bilateral stimulation I was taught for EMDR. It's all very distressing. But it helps explain how I've ended up. It's very upsetting that another family member has been reviving the old animosities and blaming me where I'd actually been victimised. My late father was also victimised, and I can now see it fits parts of a bigger picture.

Meanwhile my most vulnerable family member is not doing well. It's all too much.

I'm taking one day at a time.

Hope tomorrow goes well for you. I have no plans, except having to start analysing what I eat for the new dietician.

You've got a new dietician? @Dimity

Sorry things are all too much. Sending a hug 🫂

Were you falsely accused of things in these letters? 😥 And I'm sorry a family member is currently blaming you too 😥

Yes, I was very pleased I'd achieved all 5 errands yesterday. But I did have to lie down for the rest of the day.

A busy work day today. The house has quickly got out of control, with 14 bags on the floor. I will somehow have to get motivated to tackle it this weekend.

I hope you feel a bit stronger today 🤞
