Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Oh, that would have been hard, @Dimity , shredding the vet records of your Tiger. 😢

Well done on your second hour. Plus the half an hour of exercise too.

I'm really feeling sore as I take no exercise.

I did my 6 hours and was glad to stop right at that point. The house is all tidy and now I have only 2 days to do a LOT of cleaning 😣

Good luck with your filing and the third hour.

Well I walked for half an hour and finally finished my 3 hours this evening @NatureLover . I'm feeling sore too. Things really don't look any better but I keep getting a better idea of where things are, and of what I've come through.

I'll aim to do another 3 hours of sorting and cleaning tomorrow. I want to have things tidier before the substitute home help comes on Wednesday.

It sounds as though you must be pretty much on top of your household clutter, apart from regularly building up backlogs of groceries. That's probably a huge achievement, apart from the stuff out of sight in the shed. I've also come a long way in the years since peak clutter, but there's a long way further to go.

Well done on your 3 hours and your walk too, @Dimity ! Thanks for working with me, that helped.

Hopefully we can repeat our success today.

I'm not on top of household clutter, unfortunately. Things build up on the long kitchen bench waiting to be disinfected. Plus work documents waiting for shredding. I think there's a long way further to go for both of us.

Today I have 6 hours' cleaning to do, eeek! I keep changing my mind (and my list) as to what to focus on. I guess I'll just start anywhere, just to get started. Currently still in bed.

I will look forward to checking in with you today and reporting progress.

P.S. @Dimity - I just rewrote my list to take into account the wild weather expected today, and have decided to do the sheet-changing and vacuuming today in case there's a power cut. My new list is terrifying 😯😣

Just checking in and having a sit down after 2 hours and 20 minutes' work. G o i n g . . . v e r y . . . s l o w l y . Have done the dusting, changed the sheets, pulled the large rug in the lounge-room back into place (after moving everything off it including an airer, an armchair and my desk chair), and hidden 2 work boxes of documents in the boot of my car. It doesn't sound much but I've been going pretty slowly. Plus have done 2 loads of laundry this morning.

My nice neighbour with the dog is sweeping outside both our places currently and washing down our outside furniture, including mine. So lovely. He only took and hour and a half to totally clean his place so he offered to help. I will buy him some coffees.

Next task is the vacuuming which I haven't done for 6 months. My place is so tiny (just 3 rooms) and so cluttered with furniture that it takes about 2 hours to vacuum, moving things around. Plus it gives me multiple asthma attacks, one after another, so I have to keep sitting down and taking puffers. So I don't do it very often.

Thanks for listening ❤️

I hope you've woken up feeling OK today 🤞

@Dimity

Hopefully you're well underway now @NatureLover and crossing off things on that scary list.

I'm about to get started. I don't have a list today but there's stuff to be done everywhere I look. That's scary too.

I hope you don't have any blackouts. It's windy here but not excessively so.

Good luck to us both.

Our messages crossed @NatureLover

Sounds heavy work. That's a worry re your asthma. I'm very grateful to have help with vacuuming. I don't take it for granted and expect to lose it when the Commonwealth Home Support Program is phased out next year.

Your neighbour sounds lovely..

Well I'd better make a start somewhere.

Sorry, @Dimity , I only just saw your messages - thanks.

Just finished the vacuuming - it took 1 hour and 35 minutes. Am tired and sore and feel a bit defeated. Next up is the toilet, a job I hate. Just sitting down for 5 minutes first and wanted to check in and see how things were with you.

How are you going with your scary tasks?

Good on you for keeping going @NatureLover . I've only done 1 hour so far. Feeling cranky tbh. But have cleared a little space on the sofa. I'll take a break and walk to the pharmacy for my monthly refill. I've had an idea on reorganising my lever arch files so will try when I get back.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

I've fallen in a heap, @Dimity . Had a shower and hair wash as I can't get into clean sheets while dirty. Now I can't get going again. Am eating muesli instead.

I've only done 4 hours today but it's taken a lot out of me. Very stiff and sore.

Well done on.your hour's work when you're feeling cranky.

I hope you don't get wet on your walk - it's not raining here yet but it's threatening any time now.

I hope your idea works out for your lever arch folders.
