Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Hi @Dimity , feeling paralysed is a horrible feeling. I hope it goes away.

Another 5 weeks is a long time without home help. Can't the agency send you someone to fill in? That's not at 9am?

I didn't even get a chance to do laundry yesterday, it was so busy at work. Same today, but I will try to do something on the house, as well as laundry.

I think it's going to be a very stressful 3 days on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. 😣

💚 good luck with it all @NatureLover

Yes I'll have one replacement visit but will have missed 2 or 3.

Today was another bad day. I've been reaching out for answers.

Usual story. After a bad day I can't settle. I'll try to sleep so I can tidy with you @NatureLover . i haven't been able to face it for a couple of days.

Hi @Dimity , that's good you'll at least have one fill in home help visit in the 5 weeks.

Sorry to hear you had a bad day yesterday. Also that you were having trouble falling asleep. Did you get much sleep?

I ended up having a busy day at work yesterday. But that would be awesome if you could tidy with me! Thank you ❤️

I'm aiming to do 6 hours a day for 3 days. I'll have to cut corners by putting stuff in the shed, I think. Also my nice neighbour said he'd clean my verandah (sweep and wipe down furniture). He's lovely.

One problem is I woke up even earlier than usual and now I want to go back to sleep! (It's 6.20am)

I hope you have a much better day today. 🤞

I slept til midmorning @NatureLover .

It's kind if your neighbour to help. Are you making good progress? I'm about to start... or try... 3 hours would be good but I'm not confident

Hi @Dimity ! Just checking in. That's encouraging to me that you're thinking of trying for 3 hours.

I'm going slowly, doing a lot of disinfecting as the stuff piles up on the long kitchen bench waiting to be disinfected according to my OCD. Have cleared a couple of more difficult bags (stuff I don't know what to do with) and the aim today is really just to get the whole house tidied up by 4pm today (but not cleaned). Aiming for 6 hours each today, tomorrow and Monday. I wouldn't say I'm making good progress, but some. I also shredded a whole lot of work documents that had been sitting on the kitchen bench waiting for shredding.

Just had lunch and am about to start again.

Good luck with your tidying / decluttering today!

It's an achievement to deal with difficult bags @NatureLover and I guess it's hard to cut corners on OCD/germophobia disinfecting. I've done an hour's chores and have to decide what to tackle next.

Well done on your hour's work, @Dimity 🙂

Your plans encouraged me and helped me over a hump.

Popping in to see your progress report and to tell you I've finally disposed of all the pesky bags! Got a pile to wash now. There were more bags buried under there than I realised.

Still working on the long kitchen bench.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi again @Dimity

I just finished my long kitchen bench and am sitting down for ten minutes. I'm sore and tired. So much disinfecting! I used an entire large pack of disinfecting wipes.

So I just need to tidy a few more things away - some laundry powder in the bathroom, some things on the small kitchen bench etc.

By the way, no boxes into the shed! But I will be putting 2 boxes into my car boot to hide them on Monday - boxes of work docuemnts I'm yet to upload.

How are you going?

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

That's amazing @NatureLover .And no boxes!

I've done a second hour, and exercised for than half an hour. Shredded Tiger's vet records, which leaves a hole in my chest. Odd sensation. Tears now. He was a good boy.

I've shifted piles from the kitchen to the sofa and started filing but it's slow. I'll bring in the washing and go for my walk, and try for the third hour later.
