Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

P.S. What did you decide to do about your 12 half-used rolls of packing tape? @Dimity

I hope the drive to the rehab hospital wasn't too onerous after a poor night's sleep @NatureLover .

I grouped the packing tape rolls together in a small box. Probably avoiding the question. Today I started on the kitchen cupboards and found masses of new wettexes, 3 new bottles of dishwasher detergent and oodles of rolls of foil/clingwrap/greaseproof when I haven't used them for years. But I'd like to try baking again.

Today I was given my exercise program. I found it tough, and wonder if I'm up to it, especially every day.

I can understand your feeling blocked but I hope you can get started as you'd been doing so well. I hope you won't end up panicked by 24 hours notice of an alarm inspection visit.

Yes I'm due at exercise group tomorrow. It's a group in flux... people come and go.

Hi @Dimity , I didn't make it to the rehab hospital - I had a flat day in bed. I'll try for Weds.

I too am dreading a last minute panic about my house. That dread doesn't seem to be kick-starting me though 😣

Can you tell your exercise physiologist that you think your exercise programme is too much for you?

Well done on tackling your kitchen cupboards.

Good luck with the social aspects of your exercise class today.

I'm so sorry to hear you had a bad day yesterday @NatureLover . It's my turn for one today.

Let's hope things improve for both of us.

Love

I'm sorry you had a bad day, @Dimity 😥

Was it to do with your exercise class?

I need to attempt to visit my friend in the rehab hospital today. Plus get my meds at the chemist. Not looking forward to it.

Sending lots of hugs and care ❤️

I hope you succeeded in your goals today @NatureLover .

Yes I was worried by things in exercise group. And I had an entire thread deleted because it didn't suit the new aims of Recovery Club although it was in a different space. It affected other people too. So if you don't mind I'm very uncertain about what I can say unless/until I get clarification.

I'm sad that your uncertainty and discomfort on the forums here has affected our nice daily chat and caring connection. 😥 However I understand that you need clarification.

Have the new Recovery Club guidelines been advertised anywhere? Because I have no idea about them. I'm not in the Recovery Club, whatever that is, but it sounds like the new guidelines affect the whole forums?

I've realised that I'm not coping well at the moment. I did make it with difficulty out of the house and to the rehab hospital to visit my friend. But I didn't manage the chemist or the other errands I had planned. I'll try again today.

Am also blocked on another card to write and post! Hopefully today.

In some good news, I had got behind with laundry, which is unlike me. But I managed a laundry wash and dry yesterday, plus a shower.

Sending lots of care and hugs 🫂❤️

Thanks for caring @NatureLover . Sorry to hear you're struggling too. I'm glad you've seen your friend and caught up on laundry. It all counts.

No I'm not in Recovery Club either.

My home help has cancelled for the 3rd time in the last few weeks. I'm pretty sure she's unwilling to continue with me. It's all too much at the moment.

Hopefully tomorrow goes well for you. I think Fridays used to be an errands day for you but you work now?

Hi @Dimity , I'm sorry to hear your home help has cancelled for the 3rd time. That is not good. Will / does the agency send someone else to fill in?

No wonder you feel it's all too much. Sending hugs 🫂

Yes, Fridays used to be errands but now is work. I managed to successfully complete my errands yesterday, including my meds at the chemist and the library to pick up 4 books. I also managed to write and deliver that card I was stuck about.

I also did laundry and had a shower. Two showers in two days!

I hope that the home help agency did send someone else. You have had some bad luck with your home help. I hope that it improves from now on.

Good luck today with your day 🤞

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Well done on all you achieved yesterday @NatureLover . I hope it helped you feel better.

I was offered a fill-in helper for 9am on a different day but didn't feel up to accepting. I so often sleep late, and don't wake to the phone alarm.

I'm finding things very difficult at present. I'm trying to make an effort with my new exercises and have let other things slide. I just don't have the spoons for everything. And I've been badly upset.

I have no plans for the weekend. I'll try for a couple of chores tonight - there are things to put away after yesterday's efforts - and try to get to sleep earlier than the last few nights.

Have a good weekend.
