Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

That's good that the tapping and the eye movements help, @Dimity . Also good that your psychologist encouraged you to speak to your younger self. As long as it's positive, I guess. Part of my healing was/is telling myself "good girl" when doing something hard, as I never heard that growing up.

Interesting that you had a different home help yesterday. Were they a good cleaner?

My books look like they will be returned on time as I read again yesterday instead of cleaning! 😣 I also managed to do errands in the late afternoon.

Today is a nice work day at home...enjoyable, plus I get out of tidying and cleaning.

I don't know what an exercise physiologist is...do you mean a physio? Good luck with it 🤞

It's sad your efforts weren't recognised @NatureLover . It's good if you feel your work is appreciated. I guess it underlines how important it is to share your achievements here so they can be acknowledged.

The helper told me to clean the mould in my shower myself. It was never mouldy until I started with "home help" who insist all they're allowed to do is a cursory wipe with a mild council-approved ineffective cleaner. I've been trying to deal with it but it seems too far gone. Grrr.

A physiotherapist is different from an exercise physiologist. Google says " Exercise physiology is the scientific study of how the body responds, adapts, and functions during physical activity. As an allied health profession, it uses evidence-based exercise interventions to help manage chronic diseases, recover from injuries, and optimize physical performance or healthy aging." It seems focussed on overall fitness and functioning not isolated musculoskeletal injuries and problems like physiotherapy. I'm going to be given an exercise program based on today's assessment.

I walked twice today. The sunshine was lovely. I even felt happy for a while.

But I didn't do any chores. I've not done much for weeks...

So pleased to hear you actually felt happy yesterday, @Dimity !

I haven't done any chores for ages either. I finished the final book yesterday that's due back shortly. I hope I can get myself together to tackle the house this weekend.

That seems pointless, wiping the shower with a mild cleaner but not scrubbing the mould! I'm sorry to hear.

Thanks for explaining what an exercise physiologist is. It sounds better than a physiotherapist (but I have a horror of physiotherapists since one injured me once).

I had a frustrating day at work yesterday dealing with inventory (stock). I'm not good at that. I prefer dealing with people.

My house is at that point where it's all so bad that I don't know what to deal with first. Still in bed currently.

Good luck with your day. I hope you can have one or two nice walks again.

I guess it's the time of year for stocktaking for tax @NatureLover

I jumped on because you said

"I hope I can get myself together to tackle the house this weekend... My house is at that point where it's all so bad that I don't know what to deal with first. "

Me too. Perhaps we can work on it together.

I'll start with washing and washing up. Then look at my mounds of stuff on tables etc. I don't know what to do with them but will set a timer while I try to figure it out.

Well I did some chores but got very little decluttering done @NatureLover . It feels hopeless. 1 1/2 hrs.

I posted on a social thread this afternoon but my post was deleted. Or maybe it never posted in the first place. It was innocuous, a flower photo, and I'd carefully tagged a number of people. But I'm used to being rejected when I try to reach out.

Hey @Dimity - not sure why your post would have disappeared. I can't see any record of our team having blocked one of your posts (and they would have emailed you if they had), so it's possible that it was an error. I'm sorry, as I know how frustrating that can be. Up to you if you want to try again <3

Oh @Dimity , I wish I'd seen your post yesterday about working together! That would've been good.

Well done on doing 1.5 hours of chores when you haven't done any for a while.

I manage to keep up with laundry but that's all. Laundry was all I achieved yesterday.

Your post being deleted sounds like a glitch, if you didn't get an email explaining why.

I hope I'll get a burst of energy and motivation to clean soon. Right now I feel like going back to sleep.

Good luck with your tasks today.

I ended up doing 2.5 hours yesterday and 3 hours today. It's not a lot but I'm unused to it, and somewhat sore after being on my feet walking etc too. As usual there's almost nothing to show for it but I'll persevere. Heaven knows why I have about a dozen half-used rolls of packing tape. I haven't used taped boxes for a very long time - I found they collapsed when stacked so now use archive boxes.

Hope you had a successful day @NatureLover.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Well done for doing 2.5 then 3 hours' work, @Dimity ! 😇 No wonder you are sore.

I also have about 6 rolls of packing tape of different sorts, but I do use taped boxes. I get them from the supermarket or the liquor store.

At least your archive boxes would be all the same size, and good for stacking?

i achieved nothing again yesterday. I obviously have a block about it. After so long with hardly any bags on the floor, I'm back to rummaging for my groceries in bags. Plus the kitchen desperately needs cleaning.

I'm visiting a friend today in a rehabilitation hospital. I'm hoping for less germs than a regular hospital. The drive will be a challenge as it's not close by. Also got meds to pick up from the chemist.

Other than that I've got a quiet week so there's no excuse for not cleaning and tidying later in the week.

I hardly slept last night. Occasionally that happens, even with the sleeping tablets. Usually it distresses me, but last night it didn't. However, I've got a challenging day today so we'll see if it has an effect later.

Is it your exercise class this week?
