Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Thanks, @Dimity .

I understand you don't have the spoons to manage everything. Sometimes everything is just too difficult. 🫂

What has upset you? Is it the forums? Or everything? (I understand if you feel you can't say)

Well done on keeping up with your exercises, despite everything weighing you down.

I've got two nice days at home now. There's no excuse not to tidy and clean. I woke up 2 hours late this morning, so am still in bed. I hope to tackle all the bags on the floor today. Money is a problem at the moment, so I don't want to go shopping for more groceries. There are so many direct debits that I'm having trouble keeping track of them.

I hope you feel a little stronger soon 🤞

My email notifications have started working again!

I'm glad you're well rested @NatureLover but sorry to hear of your financial troubles. I guess it's hard working around the timing of direct debits, they can leave you short for other things. I think some utilities offer instalment plans to spread the load.

I guess nearly "everything" is depressing and/or upsetting at present. And I have almost no human contact irl.

The text box is hiding your post. I don't know why some threads are different to others. Perhaps the tech people could look into it.

I'm not sure what to tackle today. I'm behind on chores and tidying so they'll come first. Good luck with your efforts.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi @Dimity , I have no control over the utilities as the bill goes to the landlord and it's built into the rent.

I'm sorry everything is depressing and upsetting. How's your garden? We have one narcissus flower out - seems very early.

I did nothing except laundry and reading yesterday. Luckily I started a book last night that I'm not enjoying, so that might help me with cleaning and tidying today.

Did you manage any chores yesterday?

I'm still in bed at nearly 10am. Very unlike me, but I slept in till nearly 8.

I've got an appt with the estates lawyer tomorrow to change my Will. It will cost $365 to make 2 changes! That's one reason money is so tight. I also need to see an auto-electrician for my car, but can't afford to do that yet.

Good luck to us both today with our chores / tidying / cleaning.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

@NatureLover our narcissus in the common garden have been out maybe 6 weeks. And the wattle was even earlier.

My solicitor charged me over $900 - he totally messed up my instructions at first then the next attempt had to be refined so there were 3 versions.

Maybe you needed to catch up on sleep. Not a bad thing.

I'm trying to stay afloat but wobbling. Did short stints of chores, decluttering, gardening and exercises today. Floundering, out of my depth with people, and very upset about it.

Did you get anywhere with your backlog today? I find it comforting if I can keep chipping away at mine - even if it doesn't look like much.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Am amazed at your narcissus and wattle being out for 6 weeks, @Dimity !

That is terrible that your lawyer messed up and so you had to pay $900 😲😣

I'm sorry people are so upsetting for you. 😥

Well done for all the things you tackled yesterday. Your method of keeping chipping away at things is undoubtedly better than mine of ignoring the mess till a crisis hits.

I only achieved laundry and a bit of work yesterday. I have a busy week of appts this week. Got the lawyer today and need a shower beforehand. Got my annual in-person psychiatrist appt at the hospital tomorrow (in-person for Medicare requirements). Plus tomorrow is meant to be a work day, but the psychiatrist only works on Tuesdays at this hospital.

I seem to be lurching from one necessity to the next, without getting ahead. Am struggling with the basics like getting into bed properly at night and eating some dinner - any sort of dinner.

Oh dear. I hope we can have a successful day today.

I just replied but suddenly lost the post @NatureLover . So I'll try again.

You said "I seem to be lurching from one necessity to the next, without getting ahead. Am struggling with the basics like getting into bed properly at night and eating some dinner - any sort of dinner.".

I strongly relate. I'm not getting anywhere. I'll perch on the sofa nodding off until all hours instead of going to bed and facing the next day. Especially if stressed by the previous day. And I hadn't been cooking properly. But I've been more diligent the last couple of weeks as I'm taking notes for a new dietician I'm yet to see.

I've had bulkbilled telephone consults with my psychiatrist for years without needing to meet in person. I hope your appt goes well tomorrow. And that the solicitor was able to do what you needed today.

I've been having trouble with particular people rather than everyone at large. I'm sorry my forum woes with one moderator who contacts me off-line have impinged on our conversations here. The concurrences with longterm family problems and the problems in my support group (2 individuals there) were reeeeeeally upsetting. I've been trying to reach out more on the forums but it's backfired, and not everyone is receptive. I'm grateful to you for putting up with me.

I've been summoned for jury duty but I'm trying to get an exemption.

Best wishes, onwards and upwards. We'll turn the corner soon.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Thanks for re-typing your lost reply, @Dimity . I know how frustrating that is.

Interesting that your avoidance of bed relates to facing the next day. Mine relates to actually getting ready for bed. Although once I'm in bed, I like being there.

I'm not sure why you didn't need to meet your psychiatrist once a year for Medicare rebate requirements. I wish I didn't have to. Actually my psychiatrist cancelled again, so the new in-person appt is now next month.

Yes, I'm pleased I'm getting my Will changed.

I'm not "putting up with you" at all! I enjoy and value our connection and daily posts. But I'm sorry there are 2 people in your exercise group giving you grief. Also about your troubles on the forums (and offline) here. 😥

Oh gosh, I hope you can get out of jury duty! 🤞

Work has suddenly got busy and will remain so for the next week or two. I'm overloaded with medical appts this week, so later this morning I want to try to cancel my mammogram on Thursday. Too much to face. Plus the bags on the floor have multiplied 😣

The new "reply" tip ypu gave me is great, thanks!

Good luck with your day today. ❤️

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi @NatureLover i hope you can reschedule your mammogram. I had mine a few weeks ago.

it was 2 people in the craft group that caused me grief. But at the last exercise group a volunteer tried to move my chair "to help me communicate (!?)"" and upset someone else.

Today a friend sent me a very strange message she said she'd sent accidentally while showing our text conversation to someone else. I really feel like giving up. (I'm safe but confused and hurt.)

Too many bags on the floor? You've risen to the occasion before and can and will do it again...

Wow still too many medical appts after 2 being cancelled. You must be super busy and quite unwell. I trust you can get it all sorted, and hope you feel better soon.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi @Dimity

Oh dear re what happened at the exercise group. And odd about your friend's text message 😣 😥

I cancelled my mammogram but haven't rescheduled yet. I'll wait till I'm not overloaded.

Thanks for your encouragement re the bags on the floor and being overloaded. I hadn't thought I was quite unwell, but it's true I'm not coping well. It's a battle to do the basics like getting up, laundry, eating dinner. However I'm OK to do my volunteer work as that's a joy and quite separate, plus not public-facing like my old job was.

Today I have a lunch out. Plus a little bit of leftover work from yesterday. Maybe I could do 5 bags today and wash them? Plus a shower - another battle.

Rain last night and this morning. Good for our gardens and the trees.

I hope you don't give upon people entirely. I consider you a good, thoughtful and attentive friend. ❤️

Rain this morning here too @NatureLover .

It's wonderful to hear your work is a joy. Did you enjoy lunch? I hope you can get back on track at home.

I'm not coping either. I'm just vegetating.

Is there food in your bags you should be eating?
