Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Hi @Dimity , well done on your 2 hours of work 👏 Plus shopping!

I managed to go out for my errands on Thursday. Then yesterday I had to leave the house early for an appt at the hospital with the respiratory specialist. After that, my work day.

Today and tomorrow am at home. I've swopped crumpets for fruit toast and rhubarb.

Looks like the rain will arrive today and settle in for many days.

Good luck to us both this weekend with tasks.

I trust the visit to the respiratory specialist went well @NatureLover and wasn't in a hospital.

I was meaning to get a fruit loaf next time I shopped. If I remember I'll put it on the list. I like rhubarb too but haven't had it for a while.

I did some gardening and tossed a few papers today. I'm feeling unwell, too much stress, but trying to persevere. Some of my looming admin tasks are scary. I think I made a big mistake in one of my legal documents. Of course the usual worries also continue.

Apparently it's unclear how much rain to expect. I hope there'll be breaks as I'd like to plant. I've been meaning to for ages.

I think the big dog in the unit opposite is very unhappy. It was sad to see it cringe and put its tail between its legs today when yelled at by its owner. It's left alone all week and gazes out the window.

I hope this weekend is better than you expected.

Hi @Dimity , yes, the appt with the respiratory specialist was in a hospital. Which means full shower and hair wash on coming home, plus washing all clothes worn.

So dark and gloomy this morning. But at least the rain is good for the plants and trees.

Not sure what to do today yet. Which is always a worry as I often end up reading all day, if I don't have a clear plan.

Sorry to hear about your legal mistake...would it cost money to fix?

That's sad about the dog.

Well done on getting rid of papers. Good luck today...hope the stress eases.

Hi @NatureLover @Dimity ,

Well done on getting all the life admin done that you had to do - both of you.

I hear it is not easy at all. It sounds stressful

@Dimity , if you don't mind me asking, are you going to go through with the surgery? Good on you for getting 2 hrs of decluttering done!

@NatureLover how's your asthma going? I hope things improve for you. Seriously, good on you for getting to the library and shops when feeling so low.

Thinking of you both.

@tyme I went along with the surgery booking made about a week ago but have been having second thoughts. It's minor, and not time critical. I doubt I'd have been offered it in the public system. I think that's why I'm dubious. I'm also nervous about it.

@NatureLover yes hospitals can be confronting even if you're not a germophobe.

I didn't achieve anything today except a rare long phone conversation with someone I've known many years.

I see the psychologist tomorrow. It's a very expensive exercise as I don't have a workable mhcp this year (long story, unprofessional former counsellor).

Fixing the Advance Care Directive wouldn't cost much except my time and dignity in dealing with the hurdles (seeing doctors for signoff). It's another factor in considering postponing or cancelling surgery.

Thanks for your nice words, @tyme . My asthma's good at the moment. The respiratory specialist swopped me to a 3-in-1 preventer puffer. I don't have to go back to him unless / until my asthma deteriorates again.

Hi @Dimity , did you enjoy your long phone conversation with your old [friend]?

I'm glad it won't cost much money to fix your Advance Care Directive. I want to make a change to my Will, and have been putting it off as even a minor change costs $700 with the lawyer.

I hope your psychologist appt goes well today 🤞

I am also seeing my psychologist today. I've also made a new daily schedule that I hope will work despite any depression.

It was nice to catch up with my friend @NatureLover but I was sorry to hear of her troubles.

It's good if you're able to draft a schedule then stick to it. I really do need to do that but it doesn't feel possible unless I can work towards a more gradual change.

I'm glad the respiratory specialist looked at preventing further asthma attacks.

I got a fruit loaf yesterday but the rhubarb didn't look fresh.

Good luck with your new schedule, I hope it helps

I'm glad you enjoyed catching up with your friend.

I like my new Schedule, but I didn't keep to it on Day 1! Oh dear. Easier to keep to today as it's a work day.

Admittedly my Schedule has 4 hours of house cleaning on it, for days that I stay home. I recognise that that's not realistic. It also has 2 days a week working at the library, which might not be realistic either. But hopefully these high aims will result in more effort than just reading on my days off. At least I'll know what I'm supposed to be doing!

The fruit loaf I wanted wasn't there yesterday, so I bought another type, more of an artisan fruit loaf. Haven't tried it yet, will try it for breakfast. Am in bed with a coffee currently as it's still dark.

I like the fact you tried to buy rhubarb 😀

Am glad I got in this morning before the new Single Sign On change on the forums - I couldn't cope with that this morning.

I hope your craft group is better than you expect today.

@Dimity

I think it's fine to aspire to doing more than we're currently used to - but it defeats the purpose if it's unachievable @NatureLover . 4 hours every non workday is a lot.

I need to do more and be more active, it's been even worse than usual lately but I'm trying to extend myself. I've drafted schedules before but they're lost in my clutter. I think it's a lot to ask of ourselves when we're chronically depressed, but I do believe in behavioural activation.

I bought rhubarb today. Sometimes I add cloves when I cook it.

Yes craft was OK today thanks. I hope your workday was productive.
