Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

That made me sad, reading that you blame the trouble on yourself, @Dimity 😥

Also that you feel shame, which is a very damaging emotion. I'm sorry 😥

I asked my boss for more work but there isn't any more I don't think. I've also said to another friend I'm available for dog walks on the weekends. She hasn't got back to me yet, but I hope she does as I'm finding weekends long and lonely.

I've been waiting for page 600 of my thread - not because it's a high number but because it's a nice round number!

Today I've got the iron infusion. I might walk to the clinic I think. There's a string of sunny days coming up.

Next week is a very busy week and I'm worried about money. The iron infusion today costs $165. The car service next week will be a few hundred. I wish I had put off the car service till later. I'm still not used to juggling the cash with my limited bank account. I definitely wish I had saved more of my inheritance.

I also wish that somehow I could be inspired and engaged by house work. Not to mention the boxes in the shed. I bet you feel similarly.

Good luck to us both today...

Hopefully you'll feel much better after the iron infusion @NatureLover .

Ah yes, it would be nice to be enthused by decluttering. My home help enquired re progress... nothing really since last time.

I had my flu shot today. And got some sort of care plan with goals including seeing a dietician and exercise physiologist. I walked home, a long way, via the vet to drop off a thankyou card.

It's hard being lonely and strapped for cash.

And I think we both face challenges getting out and about.

I hope you have a good day tomorrow, whether it's work, chores or errands. I should make more effort.

Hi @Dimity , I had my flu shot yesterday as well. It was such a nice warm day, with a full week of warm days to come as well. I'm feeling much better than last week and the sunshine is helping.

Is that your GP's idea, the dietician and the exercise physiologist? How do you feel about it?

It's not your home help's role to enquire about your decluttering progress!

Apparently the effects of the iron infusion take 2-3 weeks to be felt. Then I need to go back for a blood test in 6 weeks. Also, the iron infusion cost $249, not $165!

A work day at home for me today. Looking forward to it.

Hope you feel up to doing what you need to today.

@NatureLover I'm glad you're feeling a bit better The price of the iron infusion must have been a shock. I hope it doesn't jeopardise your planned car servicing.

The gp confuses me. I thought she was going to email me referrals. I don't know whether to chase them up or assume she changed her mind so they're just recommendations. She did the same with the blood test.

I'm not sure if I'll get errands done this afternoon...

@NatureLover yes I ticked off 5 things including donating a bag of coat and skirt hangers. Perhaps that counts as decluttering?

Yes, that counts as decluttering, @Dimity . 🙂

Did you manage to go out for errands?

I'm not feeling well physically. Was so tired yesterday, and achey, with a headache that I've still got this morning. I'm not sure if it's a reaction to the flu shot or the iron infusion. Am off my food too.

That's weird about your GP being so vague. Not helpful!

This weekend I have 2 days at home apart from a grocery shop which will probably be tomorrow. I need to tidy and clean the house, but am feeling so tired and sore.

Anzac Day today.

I hope you are up to doing some tasks today (me too).

Yes it was 5 errands I got done yesterday @NatureLover .

Being tired and achey isn't good. I seem to have been that way for weeks. It's worse when it's cold. I've had very little reaction to my flu shot (usually I'd have a sore arm at least). Take it easy, hopefully you'll recover over the weekend.

We can compare notes as to what we achieve. Not a good start so far, so it will be something to aim for.

Well @NatureLover I pushed myself and got through some chores, decluttering and gardening. And my physio exercises (I'd been slack).

I wouldn't say I'm back on track yet but it was a better day.

Hope your day was OK.

5 errands is good, @Dimity . And all your achievements yesterday - well done!

I'm sorry to hear you've been tired and achey for weeks. That's not good.

I didn't get anything done yesterday, not even laundry. Today I've done laundry, watering and a little disinfecting of items. A, still depressed though, despite it being a beautiful day today.

I hope you can pat yourself on the back for your efforts.

Glad you've done a few things today @NatureLover . I've done a little weeding and watering but need to try a bit of decluttering. Overcoming depression definitely isn't easy. I hope your friend responds re weekend dog walks.

I mentioned to a family member how quiet and lonely it is. They're very busy.

I've not been watering enough and have lost some plants.

Good luck with your work and car servicing this week. I'm not sure what to aim for.
