Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Hi @Dimity , no response re weekend dog walks yet. I had a better day yesterday but am still achey and flat.

Got a lunch today half an hour away. Not looking forward to going out.

Weeding and watering is an achievement, especially the weeding.

I'm sorry your family member wasn't sympathetic or helpful when you opened up to them 😥

I hope you can settle on a goal to aim for, if that helps you. It seems to, judging by your success with your Easter goals.

@NatureLover I hope you found lunch was worth the effort, and you enjoyed the company.

And I hope you're feeling better.

Hi @Dimity , how are you feeling today?

The lunch was uncomfortable as my friend just talked about herself. Normally I would assert myself, but I was too down. I was glad to hear her news, but not many people ask about me.

I slept only half an hour on Monday night, so Tuesday was difficult. Last night I got about 4.5 hours' sleep.

This morning am feeling a bit better, thanks. Still got the headache I've had for many days, but it's eased. Am less achey overall.

Got dog walking with a friend today in the sunshine. Plus grocery shopping on the way home.

I hope you can look after yourself while you're sick. Does luxuriating in a bath help? Not sure if your house has a bath (mine doesn't). Hope you can keep warm. 🫂

@NatureLover I'm waiting for the antibiotics to kick in.

Sorry to hear of your continuing insomnia headache and aches. It affects your mood and probably exacerbated the awkwardness at lunch. Do you think you might have a low-level virus?

I find it a bit hard getting in and out of a bath these days. An electric blanket to take the chill off my bed helps. I've been chronically tired with aches and pains for months. I'm emotionally drained. So succumbing to this infection isn't surprising, it's happened before. Gosh it's depressing.

I wonder how we can nurture ourselves to get through our respective slumps.

I hope your antibiotics kick in soon, @Dimity 🤞

Sorry about your physical state. And your depression 😥

Are you taking it easy and looking after youself? Do you give yourself hot lemon drinks when you're sick, or are there other things you do? The electric blanket sounds nice and warm.

I don't think I have a virus as I felt a bit better yesterday and again today. I've finally lost that headache.

I've got the car service today and have to have a shower and get there at 8.45, so will sign off now. Hope you can feel a bit better soon.

Hope the car service wasn't as expensive as you feared @NatureLover . Glad you're feeling a bit better. I have to go back to the Dr to review my antibiotics - they should have made a difference by now.

I'm not very good at nurturing myself, other than permitting myself to sleep in and be very lazy. My mother never modelled care or nurturing. I've only seen it in in-laws, not in my birth family.

Hi @Dimity , yes, I've been enjoying the warm weather and sunshine very much. Today is that last day of that!

Yesterday morning was crazy as I slept in till 7.30 instead of 5.30, so everything was off. I also had to do the watering and hang washing out before starting work, so missed jumping online here.

Did you get new antibiotics from the doctor? How are you feeling?

I'm sad your mother never modelled care or nurturing. 😥

Regarding nurturing, what do you like? Do you like nice scents? Hot drinks? Music? I'm glad at least that you know how to rest and take it easy as a form of nurturing yourself.

Not sure how expensive the car service was yet - the bill is usually emailed about a week later.

This morning am popping out to 2 supermarkets for different things. Then am home for the weekend. How about you?

Really hoping you are starting to feel a bit better.

You sound more active and cheerful @NatureLover.

I'm continuing the same antibiotic but the gp did a swab to check it's appropriate. I guess they'll recall me if they need to. I expect it will take a while to get over it, and I was told it's likely to recur.

Hmm to take better care of myself I'd like to be house-proud and a good cook and artistic and kind and outgoing and so much else. And clever. I feel so useless holed up here I think in real estate there's a right to "quiet enjoyment" which suggests a capacity for pleasure that I haven't had.

I think there's a possibility of rain tomorrow. I wish I'd done more work in the garden the last couple of weeks. I'd hoped to plant out a number of pots. I'm not sure if any or all of the cuttings the craft lady gave me are taking root yet.

Yes, I am, thanks, @Dimity . Although now with gloom and rain for the next 10 days, the S.A.D. might come back 😣

Yes, I forgot that you're not meant to stop antibiotics mid-course, are you? I hope they do work.

I'm sad that your damage means you don't have the capacity for pleasure 😥

Today i'm at home - I battled and overcame the desire to go out and stock up on yet more groceries. Am planning to do a little work as the coming week is a busy one at work.

But my house is in a bad state, so really need to tackle that too, today. The smoke detector check is overdue!

Would you expect to see growth by now on the craft lady's plants?

I hope your illness is letting you sleep at night...
