Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Good morning @Escaped_Goat , how are you feeling? Your cobb loaf with tomato soup looked so delicious! I will be having mine for lunch today.

I had a bad night and had to get up and take painkillers in the night. Do you manage to go all night without painkillers? 😮

Today will be a washing sort of day, I think - laundry, shower, washing up. Also throwing 2 items out as I forgot to do one yesterday. I hope you are feeling OK this morning.

@NatureLover Good morning! Sorry to hear you had a bad night. I had a reasonably decent night. For me anyway. I'm feeling pretty good this morning.

The sun is shining at least. It's 3° out there but I'm not out there yet.
Very grateful to have a roof over my head!

Today is a mixture of things. I need to phone my doctor because my prescription wasn't in at the pharmacy... the pharmacist was kind enough to give me a 3 day supply because he could see on the computer I'm supposed to be on that medication but that 3 days worth cost as much as a full prescription which is annoying. Plus I will need to go down again to pick up the full prescription... I've had so much running around and extra expenses with my medications but I don't get any covid supplement. Plus having additional medications because covid isolation aggravated my conditions.
I'm hoping to get to salvos for some jumpers... I have one that is worn thin and a sweatshirt that is 5 sizes too big but I wear for walking anyway.
General tidying up around the place. Taking the trash out to the wheelie bin.

Exercises and possibly a walk although I might walk to salvos if I'm feeling brave... it's fine going there but it's one giant hill coming home and I'm not sure I'm up for that yet. It would mean that I can rub it in my sons face because he won't tackle that hill and he's super fit. I'm so used to seeing him in his work pants and the other day he had jeans on and I asked "are they skinny jeans?" He said "no these are regular fit jeans, I don't fit into skinny jeans."

That strange moment when you realise your little boy is a large muscular man. 😳

Hi @Escaped_Goat , I just had my cobb loaf soup, I crusted the loaf first in the oven (after cutting out the middle), which was delicious. So thanks for the idea!

I'm glad you had a fairly good night. How has it gone getting your prescription today? That's not good that 3 days' tablets cost the same as a month's worth. Did you walk to the Salvos?

I'm having an odd and frustrating day. Wrestling about the NBN, and also it turns out I need to go to the chemist this afternoon, which I haven't psyched up for...hope I make it.

@NatureLover I'm having a frustrating day too. I took a wrong turn somewhere between feeling good and phoning the doctor. It went downhill from there. It took over 2 hours and numerous phone calls back and forth to the doctors then the pharmacy before the #$&**! Fax was received and I was almost in tears by that time because everyone was using their frustrated voices with me and I was trying so hard to be all calm and like "haha technology hey".
Drove to pharmacy. Then I lined up at the pharmacy as per the sign on the door "no more than 5 people in store at a time" and I could see 6 in there. One of the assistants asked if anyone in line was just picking up prescriptions to go to the window at the other side so off I trot only to be told by the assistant there to go straight in which my frustration levels peaking I attempted to do only to have an old dude block me with his arm and tell me he was there before me. I lost it... I said "technically I was here first being shuffled about because nobody wants to serve me so eff you" and I stuck my middle finger up at him. Several people in line laughed. I was summoned by an assistant to collect my prescription... so just for good measure I stuck my tongue out at old dude. I may never leave the house again. Small town remember.

I drove to the salvos. Found one jumper that wasn't from the 80's. Realised from my twitching that I hadn't taken my meds which probably didn't help matters at the pharmacy 😂 Took them as soon as I got home but one got stuck in my throat and water wasn't helping... it was dissolving and I was going to be sick so I scoffed a piece of yesterday's Mother's Day meringue treat to force the tablet down. It worked but that's not how I planned on enjoying that treat! 😕

I'm so glad you enjoyed your soup cob! I'm not sure what I'm eating for lunch yet.
Good luck with your pharmacy trip.. hope it's not as disastrous as mine.

Hi @Escaped_Goat , did your day get any better? It sounded very frustrating... I hope you don't bump into that old guy ever again! That's good though you got a warm jumper from the Salvos.

My day turned into a busy and stressful one. I didn't get done all that I had planned but I got other stuff done and made it out to the chemist. I'm lucky, my chemist is lovely and all the staff know me by name and ask about my life. I will still need to go back for one of my tablets though that they had run out of. Which means another psyching up...Going to the chemist is hard for me because of all the germs, and all the cleaning that has to take place after going there, including washing my hair and clothes.

I hope your pain levels have come down from the other day...

@NatureLover Thanks. It did get better. I don't care if I run into him again.. he was being an ass and clearly from the laughter he's not mr popular.

I must have looked a sight though... faux uggs, leggings, my giant zip up hooded sweatshirt almost to my knees, crazy grey hair flying everywhere, barely up to this guys chest. 😂 😂

Sorry your day was stressful and you have to do it again. Do you find some places more germy than others?

We seem to have rotating pharmacy staff.. rarely see the same ones in there. The other pharmacy is always the same people but I always get my prescriptions at the one in the plaza so I have something to do for the 15 minutes they make you wait.

@Escaped_Goat that's good your day got better as well. 🙂

Yes, some places are more germy than others in my mind. Hospitals and those medical clinics that have GPs are the most germy.

I'm determined to not fall asleep tonight with all the lights on and wake up cold and scared at 2am and have to go to bed properly...it's been happening too often. Plus I read years ago that serotonin replenishes itself in the dark.

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

@NatureLover I hope you get a lot of serotonin tonight!

I have my follow up appointment for my surgery via phone tomorrow so I'll find out if they got everything they went in there for 🤞 I'm assuming they're not missing any surgical cutlery. 😂

Thanks for the laugh 😄

Good luck for the phone appointment with the surgeon... 🤞

I have my first Telehealth appointment tomorrow with my psychiatrist. He does work out of a hospital, so am glad to not have to go in to see him this time - it's always stressful going to a hospital.

Thanks, I hope you have a very serotoniny night too!

@NatureLover Good morning! At least I hope it is. Glad I made you laugh. 😀

So far it's okay here. Obviously a little anxiety over the phone call but that's this afternoon. At least I don't have to go in so I'm grateful to covid for that!

Every time I have had to have surgery I buy a cheap pair of slippers I can dispose of afterwards... the floors in hospitals are disgusting!
I'm with you regarding the GP medical centres... I hate going there. Too many sick people! 😂 I laugh but it's not funny... I mean sick people are supposed to go there but I'm so rarely sick in a way that requires medical attention that I am there as a healthy person with a compromised immune system exposing myself to germs in order to keep myself healthy (mentally and fibromyalgia). However my doctor never runs over and the receptionists know to send me to sit on the chair outside his office if I look overly stressed rather than sit me in the waiting room. I always feel like I need a full on scrub down when I get home though. Also the pathology rooms... whenever I have to have blood tests which is quite often... full scrub down afterwards.

I have things I want to do this morning but I keep forgetting... the very next time they come to mind I need to write them down. My mind is slippery this morning.. too full of nonsense maybe.

I hope you have a good appointment with you psychiatrist today. 🙃
