Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

@Former-Member am really sorry to hear you're suffering with SI and SH thoughts. That really sucks. Well done for remaining safe under difficult circumstances.

Maybe the fact that you're seeing the social worker over the phone will add just a little distance and make it slightly easier? I hope so...

And your psychiatrist is supportive, isn't he?

I'm OK, thanks for asking 🙂

@NatureLover hmm maybe, I'll keep you updated. Then I'll complain about the MH nurse after I see my psychiatrist as my parents suggested.

Yes he is supportive, my Psychiatrist. I'll keep you updated.

Thanks for the kind words xx @Escaped_Goat

No worries, @Former-Member 🙂 Please keep us updated. I hope the phone appointment with the social worker goes well tomorrow (better then you expect) and that you're not too anxious...

@Escaped_Goat Rotting fish??!! Oh dear!

Warmth is good at this time of year. You're probably off eating your hot, fresh, crusty, delicious cobb loaf...enjoy 🙂

I'm going out for a walk shortly and then I'll be back later briefly.

@Former-Member Sounds like you have a lot of support so keep on thinking that you will be okay and keep yourself safe and make sure you keep your appointments.

We all have difficult patches so we understand what it's like. Just remember you've survived 100% of your tough days so you can do this!

@Escaped_Goat I don't have any support actually, just my Psychiatrist and my parents, GP doesn't help and the MH Nurse was rude, I reckon the social worker may be too

Thanks though @NatureLover

@Former-Member That sounds like a good amount of support to me and you might find the social worker additional support. That's massive! Many people don't have even one support person and you currently have three and potentially will have four tomorrow. You should consider yourself very fortunate! I certainly would if I had that much support as I'm sure would many others.

@Escaped_Goat hmm I guess you're right. I do have a GP but I haven't seen or spoken to her in months, the clinic is only doing phone and video calls, last time I did that it was pointless, went for literally 3 mins and she said speak to my Psychiatrist like she usually does, which I do anyway. I couldn't even hear her because she had me on speaker. She told me I can talk to her but I don't see the point, I'm just wasting my time.

I won't be seeing the MH Nurse anymore and complaining. So I basically just have my Psychiatrist. Oh and a supporit worker calling me at Wellways while I'm on the waitlist
