Numb again

Numb again

I have tried contacting online support but everything is unavailable or offline .

I was raped 7 years ago and things happen so I made myself numb and supprised everything. I learned about the breathing techniques as well as the 5,4,3,2,1 tool. Tonight it's not working . I am having flash backs like crazy and I can't get my mind and body to calm down to relax and sleep . At this stage I am in for a night of night terrors and I can't do that again tonight. I am shutting down again but not sure how to stop it .

Re: Numb again

Work today @Lee82 The whole day sitting in a very uncomfortable chair on the computer. Not back on class until Friday. I am very happy to be home where I am more comfortable ...and of course I have Tobes to snuggle next to me.

How has your day been Hon? I know you have been struggling but has there been anything positive in your day - even a moment alone with a cuppa?

Re: Numb again

Today I was able to go for a walk on my own. It was nice being able to do that without a Chaperone.

Re: Numb again

Awesome @Lee82 Fresh air, a little exercise and some alone time - all great positives for your day 👍 I will give Tobes a cuddle from you. How is Boris going with your brother?

Re: Numb again

He is being very spoilt...I was suppose to get him back tomorrow and was suppose to be able to go back home but everyone (except me) has decided that I should stay with mum a little longer. 😞

thanks for giving tobes a cuddle for me.

Re: Numb again

I think that is a reaonable suggestion @Lee82 considering how hard the last few days have been. I know being with your mum is not ideal but it is the safest option right now - so give it a little more time Hon - you deserve that care and support.

Just feeling like that day is never going to come. @Zoe7

Re: Numb again

Hearing you @Lee82 - that is so hard Hon. Treat everyday as a brand new day as best you can - just get through the day you are in and then see how you feel down the track a little. Your safety is the priority and if that is best where you are for now then that is where you need to be. Remember also the longer term goal - getting to appointments for your son - then you can think about hospital Hon.

Re: Numb again

Thanks for the encouragement @Zoe7 it means a lot to get the perspective from someone who has been where I am right now. Sometimes it's just hard to listen to those around you when they haven't had to deal with MH before. Sometimes it feels like they just done understand or get it.

Re: Numb again

@Lee82 I think part of that is that they do not know how to handle it either. It is often really hard for those close to us to know what to do or what to say and in a lot of ways it is best for them to bury their head in the sand so they do not feel some of that pain that you are feeling. It is not because they do not care - it is just too hard for them to cope with as well. I feel a lot of societals lack of uderstanding of mh has historically been because it has been put in the 'too hard basket' and as a result people have not had to deal with it. Things are changing though and MH in all it's forms is more to the fore - but breaking down those barriers is a slow process.

Hang on to every day you are in - live that day before you worry about the next. I know I have said this before but there is no point worrying about tomorrow until it comes - live in the moment as much as you can and know you are not alone.

Re: Numb again

You are so right about the people around us burying their heads in the sand hoping it will just go away and not wanting to deal with it. I have seen this too many times.
I struggle with living in the moment right now. Staying in the present is hard to do when you have flashbacks and triggers all the time.
how is your back feeling @Zoe7 ?
