Re: Sleeping too much

Hi @PeppiPatty, thank you for your message. I'm thrilled my son is coming home for Christmas, I haven't had him the last two Christmases. He doesn't handle my being depressed and anxious but I'm glad to say I have improved and hope he notices.
So sorry you don't have more to do with your boys, and blood family. Its hurtful and I feel for you.
There's this social expectation that everyone spends their Christmas week driving all over the countryside to C sit family, but its just not practical. To be honest, my blood family - it hurts too much, always has, to gather and pretend all is well as we hand out gifts, stuff ourselves and talk over the top of each other with the TV in the background. So depressing. They crack jokes about my faith and weight haha, not! So I've decided NOT to be with family for Christmas but save it for peaceful company, visit them other times, less pressure. But its not set in concrete. I think its OK to have unconvential Christmas. If I judge what's happening or think about it too much it consumes me so, I don't fuss and try accept whatever. That's the plan anyway. Can you do this?

Our adult kids have moved on with their life. I can't complain because I trained my son to be independent quality human and its how it should be. He's partner sealed that path, he really doesn't need me anymore - he has to WANT to see me. Its the same with your boys, give them time, boys are slower at graspi g this stuff too. I'm glad you could help your son through his past relapse. I know he'd hate that it inconvenienced you but guessing he didn't have anywhere else to go really. Glad you've had reports of him alive and well. They're a worry. Don't forget to pray for him ? Them.

The dress looks lovely and come, love the flare and gold diagonal pattern. I'd wear that.
Nighty night 🙂

dear @Tawney,

How dare family complain about weight. Gee that makes me feel angry. You had Enuf to deal with. My Mum and me have taken years and years to get where we are : it's not good but.......she really loves and relates to my husband which is good for me. It made me feel really angry how my husbands family were all complaining about his weight, he was packing it on from quitting smoking, drinking and drugs......but about 3 weeks ago he decided to stop eating sugar & the weight has been falling off him.

I have a lapband.

Our kids have moved on with their lives and I'm pleased with that but what annoys me is that they arent sensetive..............on the other hand,

they are managing their own lives. We just can't afford presents this year......we havent since my work has dropped incredibly.

What do you mean they crack jokes about your faith ? We go to church. It helps us keep in one more little routine........

I think that it's great that you have an unconventional Christmas.... have you thought of getting Dvds out ? I saw the BEST film last week.... Arrival.... Go stuff your family. I read this great little talk tonight on being authentic and saying things you really mean.....not cruel or anything but just be more what you are.

For instance, " no, I'm not coming this year. I need to spend time with my other family and friends this year."

Last year, I gave my youngest son all these envelopes with $10 and $5 bills in them all saying a different emotion on them. He was laughing away on them.

This year we have gotten 2 waistcoats. One a plain black and one with paisleys, My youngest son will love the one with paisleys.

My oldest son said that he will come to Perth next year when my Mum turns 75. Every year I was visiting him for a week but havent been able to afford to go over for 2years and he's not bothered to come here.

You are right....

nighty night @Former-Member x

Re: neyRe: Sleeping too much

In my hubby's family, weight is a central focus ... surprise, surprise .... !!

When you have been somewhere on holidays, you are greeted with, "Welcom back ..... ", and then immediately with some sort of comment about your weight ....

"Gee, you're looking good .... you've lost weight ...."

"Gee, you've put on weight ..."

"You don't look like you've put on any weight ..... "

And the same sort of comments are made towards, and about the kids.

Grrrr ..... !!!

Have spent my time as a mother trying to counter this culture, and appear to have succeeded, but it's caught up with my hubby despite my best efforts .... and I have to keep a shield up over the kids now more than ever, in the light of WH's "success".

MIL is growing increasingly uncomfortable on this holiday with how much WH's regimen is impacting on our day and choices, and how controlling he is endeavouring to be in other areas .... she is answering back to him, and being passive-aggressive at times, or passive-resistive like us .... think she's realising why the kids are behaving in such a passive-resistive way towards their dad ... but it's also with me at times too ... had a heart-breaking morning this morning when they ruined our family plans after having agreed to them last night .... collateral damage ....

They did feel sorry when I cried in frustration and disappointment, and softened for the rest of the day. So hard to keep the balance sometimes between upholding standards one minute, but then allowing for the extra-ordinary stresses and stay rains the next .... and of course WH is oblivious to being the cause of the extra-ordinary stresses and strains ....

:face_with_rolling_eyes: .... Mama mia !!

🐠🐠🐠 ... !!

I don't know who to answer first @Faith-and-Hope@Former-Member@TAB@PeppiPatty

I can't understand why people comment on other people's weight - golly - if we are carry a bit to much around it's us who is carrying them and we know - yes - we can see in the mirror - we do buy clothes from time to time and see ourselves close up and honest in the trick mirrors in the fitting room

My doctor tried the overweight thing with me - years ago when he wasn't my GP - before my old doctor retired - but he has put on some weight himself - and has since told me I look better with a few extra pounds - so I just watch it - I was so emaciated it was scary - but feel more comfortable now

There is a morbidly obese woman I see sometimes at my clinic - she is one of the sweetest women I know - and I don't know her name but she is always happy to see me and I her - and the first time she spoke she made some mention of cruel comments about here weight and I stared for a moment with my mind in overdrive until I said "I would not have thought to mention that"

And she cried - she burst into tears telling me how wonderful I was - but no - I was not "wonderful" just honest. It's not my business to mention anyone's weight.

Anyway - Faith - you do have a lot to cope with an your MIL has caught onto her son's obsession and how it upsets things for other people - and that he is blissfully unaware of the distress he causes. Is it easier overseas with him or harder? How long will you be gone? I know D3 is taking a gap-year but the other's - I actually don't know what they are doing.

Greece sounds fantastic - I have seen some docos on the Cyclades recently - there are so many there is no way to see them all - esp on a series of TV docos but they all look fantastic - and I don't know if it's a camera trick but the Ageaen looks an unreal blue - is it really that blue some days

Okay folks - weight and holidays and Christmas and if we go or if we don't go - whatever - I must get some new movies - or spend the break watching old recorded movies I haven't seen for ages

And watch the chockies - I love chockies - if I have an addiction it's to movies and chockies and I plan to have just enough of both over the break

Back later or catch me on other threads where I might be more coherent

I am so glad your son is coming home for Christmas - yeah - I know you say you are not the best company but you are his MOTHER

Remember what I said recently - well - just in case I will say it again

If we had not inconvenienced ourselves to a major degree for a e few months before our children were born they would not be here to be inconvenienced themselves at Christmas Time

Of course we don't go around telling them that - we - 99% of the time anyway - but we can remember it ourselves - and enjoy the day - etg Tawnz

"Bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come"
◄ 1 Timothy 4:8 ► Holy Bible

Guess you can have both, but clearly one is more important than the other 😯
