Re: Sleeping too much

@Former-Member, sorry people at church have hurt you too. Funny how we expect more of them, a lot of them / us can be so ignorant when it come to having the right attitudes, wisdom & compassion, like Jesus. Mmm, think it comes down to the quality of personal prayer life & knowledge of the word (bible). And even then its easy to relax and put one's foot in it. But some sad people do get off on comparisons, pointing out what they think they're better at, pride etc. They don't make it easy for those of us "poor in spirit" (depressed, grieving...) While recovering from major depressive Breakdown (9+4+1+4wks in hospital over the year of destruction), she said "despair is a sin you know" They don't get it that we already feel sick about it, and ourself. Like empowering us with a positive word or act of kindness is too hard. There's ways to say things.
Maybe we can start a thread of "stupid things people say!" I have so many stories about this topic. Rest assured I'll do my best to not put my foot in it with you, but I probably will accidentally, please know that I would never intend to hurt you, be spiteful like that. Big hug to you sister xox

Dear @Former-Member

I like what you write about standing up for yourself.

It took me over a year to take the plunge to actually go to the church we go to. I went and didnt go back for a year and saw the seniors overy fortnight working cleaning their home. They didnt mind, they said...'You'lle turn up when your ready to." Well I did, over a year later.

I'm still so surprised that they were so kind to me for all that time........

The lady in your story is a little........ normal, hey.

Hi @PeppiPatty, Glad you encounted better people. I agree, standing up for ourselves, kindly, to wake them up. And hopefully make it easier on the next person.:)

Re: Sleeping too much

@Former-Member I would only go to church if I can put a smile on my face and say, "I'm good thanks", because that's what they want to hear on Sunday, lol. I learnt not to expect anything from them many years ago. For a long time I went with the attitude that I would go there and try to encourage someone, but sometimes I just didn't have the energy for that. Usually I keep my faith strong, but not for quite a while. I still have faith, but it's not as strong as it used to be.

Years ago I did have some very good counselling through the church, but there's only so much they can do. Now I need to work on myself to get better.

Not one of them has asked me if I'm ok for a very long time. I'm used to it now. Funny thing is when I used to go I would always try and encourage people and see if they are ok, funny they don't do it in return, but, oh well. I'm "over it", lol, until I see someone, like I did on Friday night, I saw quite a few of them. Eeeek! Very awkward and it took me a day or 2 to get over it. Thanks for listening. xoxoxo

That is great @PeppiPatty that you have found a church where you are happy to go and can feel comfortable to go to when you feel up to it. xoxoxox

Re: Sleeping too much

Hi guys ..... 😊

We had huge problems at our church with "those" sort of people for a few years .... but y'know what ? There are usually other people like you there somewhere who are cringing under the influence of highly judgemental, opinionated and controlling people .... but likely too afraid to say anything .... maybe even feeling inadequate themselves. 😔

At first it gets a bit confusing when you hold to your own course and ignore all the judgemental carry-on .... just play dumb to it .... then things can get a bit tense when the VC's find they're not being followed without question .... then others start to wake up to the fact that they are being controlled and opinioned and begin their own passive resistance ....😤

Took us five years to get to the point where the church council members who were not user-friendly got voted out of office ... not without some serious carry-on and attempts at community splitting, but it's happened.👍🏼

Takes a number of people, and you have to mind yourself sometimes not to put down the controlling ones or it's no better than what they're doing .... but the dynamic can shift ❣

Or, if you've got that option, you can go church-shopping .... 😏
