Re: Sleeping too much

Yeah, hi all from me too. Who watched the webinar on stigma? Made me sad - to see / feel the pain others also suffer in their MI & at the hands of others. I had a huge day (for me) and fell asleep in the middle. With 2 brothers with paranoid schizophrenia,l I was hoping that would be covered better. Otherwise, it was nice having the webinar, bringing them into my living room in open discussion. Great idea.

@Faith-and-Hope @Former-Member @ everyone. Hello all. Thanks for a great conversation regarding parenting and ex's & ex in laws etc. It's so unfortunate that access and families treating children differently is still happening. You wonder if some people ever learn.
@Former-Member. Missed the webinar on tonight - guests over. But hope to view it later - when they post it.
Always frustrating and wrong when people are treated so badly - because of MI's. They wouldn't be treated that way if it was cancer or diabetes. Just bloody wrong. But the more we are able to share - what we are comfortable sharing - with the wider community - the less stigma there will be.
There will always be a few ignorant judgemental people - but we can just ignore them.

Re: Sleeping too much

I only saw half the webinar @Former-Member. I thought it was ok but I did think it would help to have more diagnosis covered. I do think there is different stigma with different diagnosis. Mind you I'm not keen on stigma with personality disorders either as it seems like a not real illness to many. I have questioed this lately too. Should I be on the forum because is my diagnosis a MI? I think having a behavioural one is different to a chemical imbalance. It feel like a chemical imbalance is at least not your fault. Much of my coming undone last week was about all this, that I didn't feel like I had the right to be on the forums and that I just needed to be better because there's nothing wrong with me, it's just poor behaviours. My therapist calmed my farm on this a bit.

I haven't caught up with your day yet or many other posts too. I've had a weird day but ok. 💜😊🤗

Re: Sleeping too much

Hey @Former-Member
BPD is considered a mental illness. You do belong here. One of those times to understand that you have a 'problem ' that inteferes with your everyday functionality.
Call it mental illness, mental dysfunction. In reality these are generic terms that encompass a multitude of difficulties.

Over thinking is a pain and it doesn't always give us realistic answers. Concentrate on continuing on your journey to recovery. You're doing so well.

Re: Sleeping too much

@Former-Member, no I missed it. Can we back view the webinar?
I discussed stigma today with psychologist, I.e: who could I ask to help me gauge my moods.
Family? A close friend?
It's really such a big thing, stigma, pretending to be ok, to play a part for each role we are in.
Anyway think I'm a bit bogged down in my own head tonight, but yes the MI arena is so broad & very misunderstood.

Re: Sleeping too much

Thanks @Kurra. I got myself in a real state over it last week. My therapist did help me feel ok about still being here.

I don't know what you mean about me overthinking anything either 😳😝😆:face_with_rolling_eyes:

Re: Sleeping too much

@Former-Member. I can understand what you mean. A lot of mental health education is about depression and anxiety. PTSD is assumed to only occur for those in war or sexual assault. Schizophrenia is still viewed by some as being possibly violent. All these assumptionsare wwrong of course.
I haven't gone through the trauma some on this site have gone through, but I still belong - because it is a place for all with experience of MI. And the ladies on the Healing trauma Webinar were talking about BPD & some other diagnosis may need to be changed to something indicating possible trauma based.
I don't have chemical imbalance depression - mine is situational depression. I guess I'm more sensitive than some people in the general community. And I never learnt resilience and stress management techniques growing up.
It breaks my heart to hear that you may not feel you belong here or that your MI is self inflicted. None of us deserve our MI. All of us deserve understanding and compassion. I'm sorry if you haven't felt that lately.

Re: Sleeping too much

Hi @utopia , thanks. It's had nothing to do with anyone here. It's just me. All my diagnosis are situational too. I'm too sensitive and too reactive. DPD with BPD traits and depression are all behavioural in my case. The main reason I have BPD traits but not full BPD was that I didn't suffer childhood trauma and I have had many long term relationships but I meet all the other criteria. On one hand the mental health team and GP have seen my mental health as really poor because of all the ODs and hospital admissions but then when you break it down it's just me not adapting to life. Anyway not wanting to harp on about it. I see you as being so very important and vital on here because of what you are overcoming and how you are doing that. Thanks again for your support💜😊💐🤗

Re: Sleeping too much

@Former-Member, you know I was just virtually saying the same thing to my partner tonight.
I felt great after my session, then I've got lost along the way tonight, due to over thinking.
I've felt same feeling, and when it hits, I'm so frustrated I just want to know why it always comes to this?
I'm totally confused, maybe trying to understand too much, too quickly.
Me the race on through type! 😏

You & others help me lot on this forum.
I'm grateful. 💙🙏

I think it takes courage, to explore our own workings.

Tomorrow is another day!

I think your empathetic nature is a great asset to you Teej.
