Re: Sleeping too much

Hi @Former-Member

As @Faith-and-Hope says - don't worry about the Irish - we have a wonderful sense of the ridiculous - some of my Irish ancestors went to New Zealand to escape the potato famine - planted all their seed potatoes and dug them up again and ate them because they got so hungry

I have a lot of relations from NZ too - the Irish in me wonders a lot about that -

Personally - I think if we have a go at ourselves first - no one else can get to us - we have already said it all - the Irish in me - esp through NZ - I have a really weird set of jokes - enough said

Onto the more serious subject - dissociatiative disorders - I haven't read much - some - I am gaining an education here

And seriously I wonder - there are so many labels we surely have a few disorders no one has thought of yet - and there are so many disorders I doubt we could get through life without some of them being tacked onto us.

I definiately have Warped International and Mixed Religion and Racial Humour Identity Disorders - and it's fine if I am careful what I say to whom and when - etc - but really - I repressed some memories from an early age - I think that is a form of dissociation - I had to protect myself - the fact I did so for so long has to be a "age disorder"

But then - we have to get through life - if we had it all at once it would render us dazed and confused forever - I can read here it takes all our lives to repair our childhood - and that's just our childhood

I can count my regular 12 hour medication by counting the blister pack - but when it comes to breakthrough medication I sometimes have to put a note in my phone to wait - this can be a problem -

Maybe we don't like taking our medication - I don't know why I sometimes forget what time I take the breakthough medication - that is a puzzle -

Your daughter did not die very long ago - it is a terrible blow to the whole body to have a child die - I think at the 30 year mark that is not really appropriate for me - but at 3 years - 4 years - that is still fresh - and whatever the label - the symptoms are the same

About the devil trying to curse you - our feelings are always valid if not sound - that's the way you felt - well meaning church friends can be so wrong - what - they don't believe in the devil then? Jesus did - he believed - and he told his disciples - we have the stories in the Gospels

I hope you have overcome that now - I have said enough - but we all have demons - and that is just another word

My best thoughts

Re: Sleeping too much

@Former-Member, @Faith-and-Hope, my psychologist is wanting to explore with me too.
Hmm, interesting what u write & kind of a lot to get ones head around F.A.H..but your good on translations.
Must be all the teachers around you growing up.

Yes I'd have to say it has me perplexed.
I've just been cross at partner for being too judgemental of me! 😱
I think we all translate things differently.
I think is how I see. If I alter into subs, it's learnt coping mechanism.
I'll have to research more too.

Re: Sleeping too much

Hmm

@Faith-and-Hope, good point, the Irish are pretty good at laughing at themselves. I feel better. As for DID, you've talked before about 'sub personalities' (which I take you to mean - the ones just underneath that surface now & then to deal with a situation. I don't want to have DID but I do want to understand myself better (get a grip as to speak), get back some blocked out years, mend the fragmentation...
But on the whole, as the psychiatrist said to me in hospital during my breakdown - "there's not much we can do for people with this condition" My then psychologist (who gave me an hours counselling every day M-F for 9wks, wow!!! she was pretty angry that he took away my hope when I was already feeling hopeless (suicidal), she believed stress management was the key & work hard at giving me coping strategies for anxiety. What I've never really learned is knowing when the stress is too high. I don't feel it, but sometimes I recognise it in patters of behaviour, by which time its too late. Mindfulness helps put me back in touch, must dig out the CDs again.

@Former-Member, interesting.interesting your psych has rsisedcthe possibility of it with you.

I tried to open a thread on DID last week but the mods pulled it down because I quoted the Name of the Author (wt#) but might try again. It was good info on the matter.

Last years psychologist (now moved on) told me DID is not fully recognised among health professionl. He said the latest research on the matter is more to do with PERSONAS we chose to put on & off for certain people or circumstances. Like when how at work we are 'professional' 'more attentive' etc. than when we are at home. Changing hats so to speak.

My tiny understand over the years is: like with most disease, there is a scale from MILD to SEVERE! I think the key how much we are aware of what the other is doing. As I tidy my home with Reno's etc I have found things I'd lost but its evident that I'd moved them & created whole new systems (only I could have done) but then forgotten & replaced over time. Its embarrassing / frustrating / bewildering..
I'm almost done trying. Even have clothes I don't remember buying, some I definitely would not feel comfe wearing. What was I thinking I'd ask myself.

Anyway, i just look my pills, finally, ya!

Re: Sleeping too much

The Dissociative Identity Disorder Scale TEST online has 28 questions, would you like me to post them & maybe discuss some. I found them fascinating. Most was aspects of my life I thought nobody understood, that embarrass me I thought maybe was just normal. or something I had to somehow get control of and certainly not tell anyone because it's too embarrassing. Can I post them?

Re: Sleeping too much

Yes it's so true all as you describe @Former-Member.
I've completely done the same thing's. I've never looked at it, other than I'm embarrassed.
I've had so many things I've brought over the year's to forget about, then remember them & want them back.
I'm feeling agitated today, & I don't like it.
Must be a sub!!
It's not a likable one. 😞
Yes, I'd find a thread most helpful tawney.
Might bake a cake. I sometimes cook to cheer myself up, when all else is lost!

Re: Sleeping too much

I think that sounds great @Former-Member. The test sounds really interesting. I should do it too.
Only discuss what is ok for you. I think I'd feel more self conscious. But that's the thing, some days I'm not at all. I just blurt out without thinking twice! Quite opposite. Aren't we all?!! 😊

Re: Sleeping too much

Hi @Former-Member .... 😊

I don't have a problem with you posting them, but maybe tag one of the mods, to tell us whether there are boundaries here .... not sure what might constitute triggers, or "advice" than ought to be sanctioned by preofessionals so it doesn't become confusing or be seen as false info ....

Does that make sense ?

There must be room to discuss it, just might need some guidelines .... and it's own thread probably .....

I think we all relate to having an inner child, just to start with .... and IFS is fairly straight-forward and reasonably well-known I believe. It might be DID discussions that are trickier.

Re: Sleeping too much

Hi all,

This is a really interesting subject, and it's great you want to obtain a better understand about the diagnosis. I just wanted to remind you that although online tests reveal important themes, a proper diagnosis will only be derived from a medial professional.

Enjoy the discussion!
