Making your bed - a little challenge

Making your bed - a little challenge

Hi guys 🙂

I came across an article about 5 reasons for making your bed every day. I've been tackling The Challenge since I first posted this on BB in Feb 2015. I've been asked to start it on here, so feel free to have a go 😉

Anyone else up to the challenge??? Here is the (edited) article ::

If you can't do the little things right, you'll never do the big things right.

1. Making your bed is a small task, but once completed, the sense of accomplishment helps you get more little things done during the day.

2. Creates an oasis to relax in when you come home. It's the one area you have control over. Pack away clothing, fluff the pillows....

3. Sets a good example for children. Easier to get them to tidy their rooms if yours is tidy.

4. Once established as a good habit, it may encourage you to start other good habits. Packing clothes away, opening curtains. This may lead you to other little tasks in other areas of the house.

5. Keeping it clean. Messy bedding can make a bedroom look untidy and unclean. With a made up bed, your bedroom will be more inviting at the end of the day.

So are you ready for your life-changing experience? When you think that making your bed takes approximately 3 minutes, it's at least worth giving it a go. Try it for a week and see if you feel like you're achieving something every morning, and whether it leads to other accomplishments - no matter how small !

Re: Making your bed - a little challenge

Well done @BlueBells. You are doing a lot better than I am with regards to bed making. Me. I'm putting in more effort into weeding the garden beds. I used to have a beautiful garden I was proud of. The last few years it's been neglected. And I'm determined not to have the worse garden - so I'm starting with the weeding. From there - who knows

Hi @utopia 🙂

Well....my bed...bedraggled, but looks okay on the surface 😄 😄

Garden !!! I'm actually going to work on that this year, but the weeds, I'm going to spray them, too much to dig in, and then I'm planting herbs hahaha

Well, coriander, and maybe kabuli chicks, and who know what other weird ones I'll try 🙂

Re: Making your bed - a little challenge

Hi @BlueBells

I've never placed much importance on making my bed up. For me it was more important to air the bedding. So I usually open everything up including windows, go and have a cuppa, read the paper; I make up the bed after that, basically because I lay out the clothes I want to wear after the shower.

My problem was vacuuming and dishes, of course. I could go months without vacuuming, meaning of course I was chiding myself as lazy which made me feel more depressed than I was already and so the vicious circle took its path. I ended up taking the lazy way out. I bought myself a robot vacuum and a dishwasher. That made a huge difference. Just pressing the remote for the robot to start working, well that was something I could manage. The difference in cleanliness was/is significant. That in itself makes me feel better and I'm more inclined to tackle other jobs, like dusting the book cases which I haven't done for yonks and which I really want to do today. *sigh*

Same for the dishwasher. Putting the dishes straight into the dishwasher rather than the sink and the kitchen already looks tidier. When I lived in Brisbane, I only had an on-the-counter machine, but that worked equally well.

Never heard of Cabooli Chicks @BlueBells. But I like the idea of planting weird and wonderful and unusual or untried. That's whats life for. Having a go at something different.
I'm chemically sensitive so I can't just spray. But before I got MI I used to find weeding rather meditative. Hope that feeling comes back. But I'm doing it in small bursts of time. Nothing too taxing - as I'm feeling like I'm about to have a downwards spiral & I'm tryingto be gentle & not put too many eexpectations on myself.

Re: Making your bed - a little challenge

Oh yes @utopia, working with plants will do it on so many levels. I lived in a unit with balcony for some time and turned that into a vegetable patch and a corner where I could sit and have my meals. The latter was completely surrounded by flowers. Of course, the advantage of the potted garden is that you can do as much or as little as you feel like. Now I have a small "real" garden and I find it quite soothing to potter around in it. I grow all of my veggies in it; that is an incentive as well. The

Re: Making your bed - a little challenge

Hi @utopia 🙂 Kabuli. They are the white ones (off white) commonly seen in the shops. More grown as broadacre crop rather than garden 🙂

Same with coriander, I'll grow for seed, as fresh spice 😉 Yet to hunt up other weird ones. 🙂

I prefer to avoid chemicals, but too much for me to get under control. I'm sensitive in that I'll smell it before others do and fly spray...the can goes rusty before it gets empty 🙂

I figure, if it destroys anything else, it could affect me too. The chemical doesn't know who/what it's attacking.

Hugs, and all the best with taking it slow, I think I am where you are at the moment 😉

Re: Making your bed - a little challenge

Thanks for the reminder @BlueBells. Can't even see my bed at the moment😁. I'm with @utopia at the moment though in that I'm trying to sort out a garden a bit before summer hits. I see the value in sorting out my bedroom and bed routine. A few weeks ago I wasn't even managing pyjamas, luckily that's getting better. I hope you're doing ok😊💜

Re: Making your bed - a little challenge

Hi @Former-Member 🙂

I've found that just that one thing of the bed, even if just making the quilt look 'nice' (hiding the sheets and blankets that are in every direction), helps me for the whole day.

It sort of 'centers me" for the day. I really need that sometimes, as I can spiral badly.

Garden....I'm renting, so has taken me a while to settle in, and decide to have a go at the garden, but finally getting to it this year 😉

Good for the spirit, and Vit D, and I like that 😉

Re: Making your bed - a little challenge

As I made a break through in being kind to myself and allowing my head to rest on a pillow .. I have not felt the making a bee challenge very relevant to me.

I had no trouble making beds .. its my kids that had the trouble ... but we are supposed to swallow that as they are our kids .. but I want to know why the kids in the orphanages could make their beds just fine and everyone is telling me its ok for teeanagers not to bother .. cos they are burdened with job of being middleclass and spoiled. Its ok I dont nag my son to make his bed .. just to strip it so I can wash the sheets.

maybe I dont really have depression .. or only had a brief reactive depression due to grief .. as a lot of my exhaustion has been due to overwork .. and no place to hide or rest or sleep ... not lack of motivation to get up and do some.... but Depression is the only DX officially made about me.
