Making your bed - a little challenge

Making your bed - a little challenge

Hi guys 🙂

I came across an article about 5 reasons for making your bed every day. I've been tackling The Challenge since I first posted this on BB in Feb 2015. I've been asked to start it on here, so feel free to have a go 😉

Anyone else up to the challenge??? Here is the (edited) article ::

If you can't do the little things right, you'll never do the big things right.

1. Making your bed is a small task, but once completed, the sense of accomplishment helps you get more little things done during the day.

2. Creates an oasis to relax in when you come home. It's the one area you have control over. Pack away clothing, fluff the pillows....

3. Sets a good example for children. Easier to get them to tidy their rooms if yours is tidy.

4. Once established as a good habit, it may encourage you to start other good habits. Packing clothes away, opening curtains. This may lead you to other little tasks in other areas of the house.

5. Keeping it clean. Messy bedding can make a bedroom look untidy and unclean. With a made up bed, your bedroom will be more inviting at the end of the day.

So are you ready for your life-changing experience? When you think that making your bed takes approximately 3 minutes, it's at least worth giving it a go. Try it for a week and see if you feel like you're achieving something every morning, and whether it leads to other accomplishments - no matter how small !

Re: Making your bed - a little challenge

Hi @BlueBells,

thanks for the thread, the timing is great for me. I move into a new house on Monday and think I might start with the making the bed idea. I told a friend recently if you want to see where my head is at take a look at my bedroom. Some days I've slept in the corner of my bed because I was too wrecked to move everything off my bed. So maybe it's a start to make sure I have a made and cleared bed every night. My dining table is also a hidden treasure😜

😊💜

Hi Teej 🙂

Quite a few found it good on BB, so I am pleased you like it.

I found that the low pressure "accountability" of the thread helped me keep up with the bed, and that little thing I find helps to diffuse the tendency to get nothing at all done in the day (on the bad days).

It feels good to have done at least one thing 😄

Hugs 🙂 🙂 🙂

G'day peeps 🙂

I've had a battle bothering to make my bed the past few days, and although I sort of pull it straight, it is bedraggled.

I've noticed I am 'bedraggled' all day. So!!! It's sort of pulled straight now, but late I will be washing sheets, well, top at least, and making the bed 🙂

Hugs 🙂 🙂 🙂

This sort of 'bumps' the thread, in case it helps others, too 😉

Re: Making your bed - a little challenge

Hi @BlueBells,

Was just thinking of you and this thread when I was making my bed a little while ago! 🙂

I am bedraggled too today. Have slept most of it away in chunks. Really needed to recover from activities and emotions recently and feel quite a bit better now for it. 🙂

But it's kind of foiled my good intentions of washing bedding today too so that I could change mine very soon. Way overdue on that. The last lot of bedding has been sitting in the wash basket since last time I changed the bed which was quite a while ago! I only seem to manage the clothes washing when I get to the wash basket, which I do regularly these days at least. 🙂

Best of luck on getting your bedding done today. You have inspired me and I'm thinking I might still get mine done too now. Maybe we can both get them done! That would be awesome!

Hugs back to you! 🙂

Hi @Mazarita 🙂

I didn't get any further on the bed, I lifted something the wrong way, and pulled a muscle, so nursing a sore arm 😞

Don't think would have dried anyway, threatening drizzle all day. Maybe tomorrow 😉

Funny how making the bed really does help, isn't it?

Hope you get that bedding washed 😉

Hugs 🙂 🙂 🙂

Hey @BlueBells,

Sorry you did yourself an injury. Hopefully it will be better for you to get it done tomorrow. 🙂

Thanks to your inspiration, I did get my bedding washed. It's out on the line overnight. Our line is undercover luckily. Next challenge will be to change the bedding, which I hope to do tomorrow. Meantime feeling pretty good for that I got today's domestic challenge out of the way. It does make me feel better when I get this stuff done!

More hugs your way! 🙂

Re: Making your bed - a little challenge

Great thread idea @BlueBells We all start in different places though. I made a commitment to the dishes early on in marriage child raising phase. It gave the cycle and routines of house-holding some shape. A way to contain the chaos. I figured the food-dish cycle was more essential than clean beds .. though I did that anyway .. it was while we were in renovations ... mode ... so house beautiful never happened .. I was usually in damage control .. of some kind ...

Hi @Mazarita and @Appleblossom 🙂

I'm pleased it is inspiring you, Maz 😉

Hi Apple 🙂 I used to try to get all the dishes washed before bed. Even if drying in the rack, such a relief in the morning. Haven't quite got back to that yet 🙂

I do get the bed made, sort of, though. I need to do better with the kids beds, make them as soon as sheets dry, not a pile like they have been for a few weeks. 🙂

Hugs 🙂 🙂 🙂

Re: Making your bed - a little challenge

I used to do that too @BlueBells. The dishes I mean. That practice has fallen by the wayside in recent times. I too am trying to get back into thst routine. It makes such a difference to walk in to a pristine kitchen first thing in the morning.

I am so glad I no longer have blankets on the bed. It's so much quicker to give the doona a quick shake and smooth it over the bed. My bed is made in a flash.

Hoping everything is sailing along smoothly for you.

Hugzzz 💕
