Partners who chose to stay for the long haul

Partners who chose to stay for the long haul

Living and loving someone with MI presents relationship challenges and often others cannot see why we chose to stay with our partners.

Being mindful of not intruding on others stories I thought having a thread where we can share tips and encourage one another would be of value.

Finding balance = something I think most of us struggle with.

Strong ... but tired

@Berry come and meet some others who care for their partners - some of us our oldies but please don't be put off by this, it can take a while to get to "know" each other but we are all in this together and are here to help and support each other (and the oldies have wisdom I have found invaluable).

@bearNecessities and @Roslyncicely do feel free to join in (Ros @Sophie1 also cares for her Ms).

Hi @Lisek thinking of you with appt this month. Is your partner still amenable to going?

@Karro how are things with you?

Big wave to @Lost1, @Sasha_86 , @Carlachris @PeppiPatty @pMac @Former-Member (and little Sir L and Holly)

Hi Darcy. He went to the psychiatrist at last and the doc changed his meds from ssri ti snri...as I predicted the doc wasn't really going to try convince him to some additional therapy. Mr will see that doctor again to see how the change of meds went. So far there isn't much change but it's only day 3 or so. Still having very horrible violent dreams and experiencing lows...till next time this low is so low that my world will fall apart. I'm delaying my own therapy because things seems a little better...I probably shouldn't. I just feel silly to go because in this moment in time I seem to be holding it together. How are you Darcy? Are you enjoying those "ok patches" when things seem better...or are you scared the worst is coming and will blindside you? Xxx

I think it is natural to worry about the worst @Lisek finding the balance between facing what are the at times harsh realities of our loved ones disorders to unnecessary worry. I found talking to the therapist very helpful on that count. I am learning to gauge my own responses a lot better too - can see Mr Darcy not doing so well at present and am now on the alert as I can see myself battening down emotionally too and am now being intentional in few areas of life to ensure self care and keep that balance happening.

Learning the patterns is a major part of our lives now. But I’m sooooo tired. I know things will pass eventually and the eye of the storm will soothe back down. It’s sometimes like living with an imaginary reciter scale for my hubby and I. Bi polar, Paranoia, PTSD and now Aspergers. I honestly somedays don’t know which way is up multiple spirals. Love him dearly and him me just hope and pray one day a bit of stability can occur. I’m sure for us it will when his mother passes away. She has always been the keeper of the triggers. For now we live on the edge forever shifting across the spectrum. Like many others must hold on especially to the love in our hearts.

I agree @Former-Member it is natural to worry about the worst, but it is not helping us as carers

sending you all hugs @Carlachris , @Lisek , @Determined , @Faith-and-Hope
