Living with depression is debilitating!!!!!

Living with depression is debilitating!!!!!

Hi everyone,

This is a first for me & to be trithful I have no idea where to start. What I do know is that I've hidden away from the world so much that I've come to realise I don't have any friends anymore. It's a situation of "the more I hide the worse I get and the worse I get the more I hide". I think there are many reasons for me becoming 'agrophobic', some of which are ten years of DV, conned that I lost everything & topped it all off with breast cancer. You will notice I didn't mention depression...well that's because I've lived with it for over 30 years & it's just become part of my everyday life I suppose. Don't get me wrong, I'm not flippant about it (well I wouldn't be on here if I was) & it is very real. In fact I had it fairly well under control until the begining of that 10 year period at the start of 2000's. I had a back injury at work & that's when my life started to go downhill. I'm not saying that's what caused it as there were a few reasons around that time (the start of the dv relationship, excessive drinking, etc & all while working full time). I've become an expert at the cover up over the years. In fact at one point I had my photo in the local paper for being voted the happiest customer service person for that month. I've always remembered that with irony, if only they'd known what my life was really like. There was a fair bit more to come, (in fact a lot more) & am willing to share if the discussion leads to that & I feel comfortable enough.

Anyway that's enough of the background for now, just thought I'd start this discussion with some idea of who I am. The strange part is I now have good reason to be happy...first thing that came to mind then was "what a joke that is'. My depression is at it's worst & I just can't seem to get back on top, even as a breast cancer survivor. I try to remind myself of the positives in my life now & none of it helps. I have in this state mostly for about 18mths now. Had meds change, now told it's as good as they've got etc etc.

I hope some of you will join in this discussion so we might be able to help each other along the way.

kristin, exactly what I was thinking when I mentioned it in my last posting, there are a few ways to do this, one just the stories without names mentioned, with the permission of "SANE" or with the screen names of the contributors with their permission. I may have misled you a little, I was not going to go ahead do it and send it to SANE without the prior approval of "all contributors." I have deleted all that I have collect so far and await the wise decision of the bosses,

Regards,

Neb, the shower is a wonderful place to be if you are in a mess, because you can cry and no one will be the wiser, also peeling onions is a real out let .

Hey @Loopy

I find some music is even better than onions and doesn't sting nealry as much! Also I try not to cry whilst chopping onions, lest I mistakenly chop myself instead - something I've done too many times over the years, so i try to exercise self-care when chopping anything

Cheers,

Kristin

Hey @pie

I am so sorry you are having such a terrile time. You have a huge amount on your plate and I really hope you can get some good help soon, because it is quite unfair that you have so much responsibility when you are struggling yourself. Both you and your dad need more support.

I really hope that seeing your psychologist on Friday can enable you to let out some of that built up stress - I find that pressure-cooker feeling of wanting to cry all the time quite exhausting. Take care.

Kindest regards,

Kristin

Rick, as contributors our advice is only "ours". It is submitted in all good faith with the hope that it may help someone else and not to be taken as "set in concrete". To me all that I have read, apart from a couple have all been relevant, it is important for all forum members to realise this and if what is said it is not directed at them , unless specifically named.

Rick, directed at you and you alone,

If I'm deluded or a hippocrit and I've been giving advice, tell me to buzz off.

It is not mine or any other forum member to say that to anyone, that is the job of the administration, ( all bow down when we speak of the Honourable one, who in my opinion do a great job with little kudos, I congratulate all those peoples.

pie, you may not have noticed but you are coping to a degree by reaching out to others in this forum. XMAS is not atime for joy for me, if anything, I normally go to my Daughters home, but this year is out. Just how much bull can one endure, by adults and under 20s trying to see how much grog they can cosume in a day without passing out, then comes face stuffing where their plates are overloaded and ultimately they never manage to empty the plate.

Re: Living with depression is debilitating!!!!!

Hi FairyFox. Nice handle by the way I'm a newbie here and find trying to read up on all the latest posts is a big task.

You've certainly been through you own kinds of hell and obviously still suffering a most debilitating illness. I'm a scientific kind of person and can't help but wonder if treatment resistant depression doesn't have it's origins in a biological condition (Someone wrote a very interesting post of it) perhaps a virus has set off and auto-immune response affecting the happiness center of the brain? Medical evolution has come a long way since penicillin was invented, yet it will be a long time I'm sure before medical science will find a link to viruses or other biological interference being the cause of mental illnesses. After all, it has the potential to put drug companies out of business over night. Sorry if that sounds a little paranoid!

The thing is, you're still experiencing a major depressive illness, no mater the cause and medication isn't having a positive effect. You must feel like you've hit rock bottom. Coming from such a position, would you consider ECT? Or, have you already tried it, rejected it etc? I know it has it knockers, but when all hope is lost, it might just be the very one thing that pulls you back from the brink!

Kind regards,

Ellie.

Hello

I haven't read all the posts in this thread
But wanted to contribute

For me

Sad is sad

And sitting with sad is sad

But at least I know that I'm sad

And knowing that not every day
Is overwhelming sad

And so

Sometimes I'm not that sad

Regards

Happyness
