Living with Ourselves

Living with Ourselves

hello @eudemonism @eth @outlander @Bunniekins @Mazarita @Silenus @NameUnknown @Grasshopper3 @patientpatient @soul @Former-Member @Determined @Shaz51 @Former-Member @Friendconnect @Teej @utopia @Queenie @Appleblossom @Zam @perseverer @Janna @Owlunar @Former-Member @Former-Member

First of all I wanted to let you know that I have conversed with all of you at some stage on both sides of the forum..

It was my intention to close two of my threads and change my name in the kindest way for all of you...

I commenced this process on the 12th March and today is the first day that I have access to actually post or respond to anyone....I was in the last couple of days able to register a new name and like some posts...

I am so sorry that my profile ended so abruptly that was definitely not my intention....

In fact if I had done it my way.. instead of thinking would be better to be guided through the process....I would have just written on one of my threads my reason for closing my account tagging you all in....then requested account to be closed and username put to bed so to speak

I have chosen to take this path in order to protect my family's sense of safety .. privacy...health..

Please let me reassure you that this has nothing to do with any members on here...

I have tagged each and everyone of you because you have given me support and invited me into a little of your worlds...priceless experiences...I have felt heard and valued on here....Thank you all so much..

Moving forward ...this is who I am now and hope to be able to converse on the forum living in the now not the past...therefore no mention of my previous username necessary...

If you do not know who I am...that is fine also...perhaps all of the above is not relevant for you..

take care

Re: Living with Ourselves

Love that quote @Sophia1 - so often we react to how others are feeling and that just exacerbates the situation but acting with more a sense of peace can then be reflective for the other person to calm also.

yes it is far easier to offer support to others than offer support to oneself..

I am certainly living testament to that...

Re: Living with Ourselves

We do often forget to attend to our own needs @Sophia1 espcially in interactions with others - whether that be lack of self-confidence or feeling rail-roaded by others - we often do not voice our own opinions/concerns/etc. and are left feeling like we have 'lost out' to a certain extent. Part of the 'art of conversation' is identifying the needs of others and reframing what they are saying in a positive context whilst also getting our point across in the same light. That is not easy to do and takes a lot of practice and skill. ...but once you 'master' it - it certainly helps with every interaction you have.

hello @Zoe7

I find the art of conversation a tricky one to articulate...

to me it differs with moods...circumstances...personalities...manners..

so many variables..

I believe the most important part of a two way conversation...is showing that you are clearly listening...

conversation is not as many people believe and portray....an exercise in talking at someone...

it can be a very pleasant...interesting...rewarding experience if interest and respect is shown on both sides...

I adjust my style of conversation to the individual...

these ideas work well for me..

we are all so different thank goodness...another factor in having an interesting conversation

Re: Living with Ourselves

I agree with everything you wrote @Sophia1

I do get annoyed when people talk at others though and don't actually listen themselves - both listening and respect are essential in any 2 way conversation.

I tend to be more of a listening and only add something to the conversation if I actually have something to say - I think that is why I find it hard on here sometimes too - 'small talk' and talking for the sake of it are not things I enjoy at all. I am happy with silence and often find that more uplifting than talking.

Re: Living with Ourselves

I really like this picture and the comment @Sophia1@Zoe7@outlander@Maggie@Adge

etc

It's horrible when someone goes around spreading their ill-will and yes - it is because they got up on the wrong side of the bed and that can be such a toxic thing to share with other people

How do we deal with that?

mmmm - yes - we can refuse to inhale their ill-feeling and hope they will inhale our calm - I get it - but that can be so hard to do

I feel myself that instead of retaliating I need to get out into the fresh air when I am near someone filling the immediated environment with the dark shadow of their own misery and who knows - they may be entitled to feel that way

If we can spread our calm and peace out from our centre - if only we are able - then we help not just ourselves but everyone in the crowd who may be feeling tired and fed up - that is such a good thing to do - I wish I was better at it but we can only do our best

But it's a best worth doing
