The Virtual Village - a space for parenting 'stuff'

The Virtual Village - a space for parenting 'stuff'

Hi everyone ☺

I'm guessing lots of people out there have heard the words "it takes a village to raise a child". It's one I believe in but one it seems many of us can really struggle with for lots of reasons. For those of us living with extra challenges like mental health related issues, it makes sense that being part of a strong and supportive network could be really helpful. I have found though, that extra challenges can make it extra challenging to find and be part of an understanding and supportive 'village' (and sometimes the people in our village are part of the issues/challenges - it can be a bit of a catch 22).
Maybe we could build a virtual kind of parenting support village here where we can share some of the ups and downs of raising kids, celebrate the good times, support each other through the not-so-good times, and connect with others who might "get it".

Morning @Former-Member 👋💕

There are a lot of news articles around saying that insomnia is a problem for a lot of people at the moment around COVID-19 isolations. I hope you do gat a lot done today. It can make the pay-off feel a bit more worth it.

I am up to my ears in assignments, but still "nesting" this morning ..... there has been a helluva lot of tidying up to do after our big upheaval and family shift-around ..... so I have been pottering around finding homes for things that still need to be put away, instead of getting on with my assignments just yet.

I unpacked the last box yesterday, but my daughter is bringing more today, presumably, from our art studio space that she and our younger son have fled to ..... still worried about them cos they are both unwell with anxiety and depression.

@saltandpepper how are you going ?

Hello @Purplerain. How are you tonight?

Also how is everyone else?

I've not been coping too well with my little man. He hasn't been sleeping in long stretches at night and I have now developed a fast letdown so breastfeeding has been challenging.

@Blep,

I'm not too bad thanks. How are you? Must be hard having a little one that's not sleeping for long stretches. I'm sure you're doing the best you can.😊

Hello @Faith-and-Hope @Shaz51

so true. A lot of sleep issues.

I haven't been productive uni wise at all.
My day is taken up with homeschool, bit of time out, and cooking, washing etc.

Today I couldn't wake and kept dreaming. I was exhausted.

Im not worried about uni. It will get done eventually.

I feel not great today.

Bordering quite depressed.

This full moon has taxed me. For three days.

I think tomorrow it will lift and curb old worries on trust etc.

We can read a lot on boundaries but sometimes it's hard to know when a whoops moment happens and I should have placed one in.

It sounds great to place new items in your home. I like the chance to redecorate.

It helps lift something inside our outer lives.

Ive read a little on this of late.

Very healing.

I hope your situation is more settled today and worry for other family members isn't so heavy.

Caring types don't switch off I know!

Take care. 🙂❤️💜

Hiya all.

I'm really feeling the tricky of kids home all the time at the moment. There's no space and little time out. They're becoming unmotivated with school and starting to get on each other's nerves (the younger two in particular). I dread Monday's especially as they drag their feet to get started with school.

I'm anxiously waiting for news about when they will return to school. I am starting work, my first paid job for a long time, and trying to figure out how I'll do it while homeschooling and keeping them entertained if they're not back at school, is doing my head in. If they go back just as I start (which I have an awful feeling they will), it will mean a huge adjustment as they've been off for 8 weeks (which feels more like 80 weeks :face_with_rolling_eyes:) already. Getting them back into the swing of it and adding childcare into it, plus getting myself into a new routine - I am nervous at the thought. Home or not, it seems like it's going to be tricky.

I'm venting. This has been a really incredible time and at times, a really tiring time. We've had some awesomely close moments and I've enjoyed doing fun and different things with them, but it's also been a real stretch and some days are really, reeeeeeally long.

I saw this this morning. The Google doodle today and it made me feel a bit less bananas as I know so many others are finding the juggle a bit of a rollercoaster too.
